After the seeds in the petri dish sprout. Do you transfer the napkin to the net cups or how do you move them into the hydroponic system? Thanks for the content. PS: Merry Christmas 🎄
You say the seeds do better growing in darkness, and you have a heat mat for heat - why do you use a gro lite? Doesn’t that make the seeds hot and in direct light?
GMO seeds cannot be purchased by the general public. You must be a farmer that is licensed by the seed provider and sign a contract that dictates how it is to be used. One key point is that you do not save, sell, give, or distribute the seed in any fashion. The vast majority of subscribers here have no reason to be concerned about the GMO status of seeds they purchase and the packages marked "non-GMO" is a marketing strategy.
at 12:01 in your video you said seeds germinate better in the darkness but at the end of the video you put them under a light. What is the best method to use?
Started my own mini hydroponics set up with two mason jars! I'm ready for more hydroponics videos! I'd love to see your whole set up! What size net cups do you use? What factors go into choosing the size?
14 minutes for info thats readily available. Was hoping youd actually have some insight. Really sick of these 1000 hydroponic how to videos that just make mountains out of mole hills. How can you take germination- and complicate it into a 14 minute video Dont listen to this guy, read a biology book, read the practical soilless guide by J. Benton jones jr. This is incomplete and full of opinions
I started my hydroponic tomatoes in August and been harvesting it for the last month or so. It is great having fresh tomatoes in the winter. Merry Christmas all
Merry Christmas to you and your family. I got my seeds from y’all and can’t wait till time to get them started. Thank you for all your wonderful videos and teaching us how to grow our food.
Once you get them it can be hard to get rid of them. I've done a few methods over the years including fly ribbons, diatomaceous earth, neem oil spray, and natural predators (spiders in the grow room, non-poisonous and they worked ok) really it just depends on what's available to you and what you're willing to have in your grow room. Also @Al's homestead that's really not helpful once you already get them in your house, especially since they can come inside even without dirt from the outdoors.
@@midwestmangos2452 I put a thin later of vermiculite over the whole area of the pots. I saw Luke here recommended doing that in his vid on vermiculite and pearlite. Works really well I have to say. I also added a fan oscillating and blowing minimally, and it works good in combo.
i know this is old, but one thing about the rockwool is they look kind of dry and also the starting pH in my experience has been very low. Its best to fill a 5 gallon bucket, ph the water (and add a trace of nutes i.e. seaweed, microponics photsynthesis plus, and GH root start) and let the cubes soak for about 1-24 hours depending on cube size. My 2 cents.
Do you use the heating pad in your house, under the tray, if the house temperature never goes below 75 degrees? Also some videos I see a dome over the tray, and some videos I don't. So should I put a dome over the tray until the seeds sprout? Would I use the Dome and Light at the same time? After sprouting would I stop the Dome and just continue with the Light only? Thank You So Much!!!!
Presoak cubes in 5.5 ph water, for about 10 minutes, then add mild nutrients of grow/bloom, keep solution (TDS) at 0.2-0.3 EC or (100-150 ppm) in the 500 scale, then check and adjust ph to stay within range mentioned above. *Option, add root hormone gel/powder plus microbes to the mix after you ph/adjust for better protection and enhance root development. Hope it helps, Goodluck🤗
Hello I just started do hydroponic garden with a system and some kratky, I came across your video, this one and I like to germinate my own seeds and so I followed how you do the seeds in little cups. I also have Rockwood cubes and I heard you say to let the seedlings stay in Rockwood for 3 weeks before planting out, how long should I wait to plant out the ones in the cups, 3 weeks as well, also for the cups how to care for them because they will grow fast, please help, lol. Thanks
Man I don't know what's wrong with my house but we have a MAJOR problem with Fungus Gnats. I've been trying to grow indoors for years but every time I do I end up with another infestation. It's just so impossible to keep them out of the house since they're so tiny.
I had an infestation too in the early spring while it was still cold and the house was closed up. I bought bags of soil from the Dollar Tree and the swarm came shortly thereafter. I think I swallowed a few while talking while they were at their peak. 😂 I used vermiculite in my soil and topped / covered the surface. The weather warmed up and I moved most of my vegetation outside. Another channel suggests drenching your soil in the 1st 2 to 3 inches with a mix of hydrogen peroxide and water. I blv the ratio was 1:4 or 1:3. This supposed to kill the larvae. However, you have to contain the adult ones flying around as well. So for the 1-2 kill punch, it is recommended to use the yellow sticky squares or fly sticky tape. I've also seen baking or microwaving your soil as a suggested soil sterilizing / larvae-killing maneuver. I've grown plants indoors before but never had an infestation like that in my life
Not sure I get it.... first you say to put a cover on the tray because the seeds germinate best in darkness... then you put a light on a timer for 16 hours, which suggests you are germinating them with light. What did I miss?
All of the nutrition a seed needs, until it has it's true leaves, is in the seed. Seeds do NOT need anything more than water to sprout. They also don't need light until they have leaves! Seeds can't absorb nutrients without roots, can't absorb light until they have leaves.
Can u plz do a video on how to use rooting powder ? My grandpa used to use it for his garden and had lots of success with it unfortunately he's no longer with us so I can't ask him how to use it correctly
I've been pondering about how to start sees lately and this video came to rescue. Thank you so much. .. near the end of the video, we need to cover the tray to keep the seeds in the dark because they germinate better in the dark. Then why should we turn the grow light on? I'm a bit confused here. If we need to, can I keep it next to a window in lieu of the grow light? Thank you again.
Great video, I hope it’s the start of a series. Just toying with hydroponics right now. I’m trying to grow watercress hydroponically. Have you ever tried the Kratky method?
You said seeds germinate better in darkness but then you put the grow light on them. Do you use the grow light after they have germinated or all along?
I have been hydroponically going lettuce for a while now and watched this video because I follow his channel and respect his gardening advice. With that said I have months of experience germinating lettuce seeds indoors, and have found that lettuce germinates best without heat (like the heat mat he shows), but under grow lights 24/7 (until you are ready to transfer the seedlings to grow containers). I also add a small amount of kelp solution in my seed starting tray to cut down on algal growth under the lights. Hope this is helpful.
I guess he makes/made videos and never checked the comments..? I always kept them in the dark, and keep an eye out for when they sprout, then move them under a light like shown (not too bright, yet. More light as they get larger and require it. I knew someone had to ask this. Everything sounded perfect until he mentioned putting them under the light..? Nobody's perfect. Great video once it gets going, several minutes in.👍
I tried to grow tomatoes in bucket.first I dropped the seeds in paper towel..moved them ..they germinated in 7 days time..and then I moved them to net cups...which are inserted in water in a bucket and I use aquarium motor to give air... The net cups are completely inserted in water. I give light for about 16 hrs.,.. in net cups I don't have a clay or rockwool cubes.. I use sponch which is yellow in color..nutrients are fine.. out of 10 plants just 2 survived..what am I doing wrong
Hope you had a great Christmas🎄Luke. Yours is my go to video on gardening, they have helped my gardening esp, tomatoes 😋. Sending you love and wishes for a great 2020 from Sydney, Australia
I have a small outdoor Aquaponics pond but so far have only been able to grow sweet potato vines (decorative, haven't tried the tuber varieties) because it's under the one tree we have and so only gets partial sunlight. The vines though grew like crazy.
Thank you thank thank you. Merry Christmas. Can you please put the link of the glow light please. I really need to watch this one. Thank you so much again.
do u just use a heat mat while seeds germinate and then take it away? thanks and Merry Christmas and happy New Year! thanks for the content and education!
Thanks for the holiday video! I am going to order some head lettuce from MI.gardener and give hydro a go! Here in n ft myers i am lucky and have a banana with flower/green bananas and a mini mango i started from a delicious red stringless mango i got local, i may see fruit in a few years! Thanks for all your vids Luke. Happy holidays and stay warm and safe to your family.

This is exactly what I wanted to know
in another video he used a net cup and ripped up pieces of the rockwool to go 'around' the sprouted petri dish plants.
You say the seeds do better growing in darkness, and you have a heat mat for heat - why do you use a gro lite? Doesn’t that make the seeds hot and in direct light?

Seeds are protected by patent laws until the patent time runs out. The non-GMO sales pitch must be working because only a few plants are actually GMO.

OMG @5:51 you start to talk about the seed planting.. wtf dude you talk a lot.. lol
So am I keeping the seeds germinating in complete darkness, or am I doing the 16/8 light schedule, I'm confused 🤔
Thank you for doing hydroponics again
Hey Luke, awesome to see how you're talking about indoor growing. I was wondering how do you control fungal gnats indoors?
Don't use dirt from outdoors

Devin Jones you can buy 10 million beneficial nematodes for $30 online. It’s the ONLY thing that works for me. I know it’s been 6 months 😅

This person elaborates on boring stuff .I stopped halfway when it was talking about grocery store and unsubscribed
SEEDS Seeds seeds......
What do you do with the rockwool after the harvest? It's not compostable, right? Is there some magical way of getting rid of it nicely?
too much irrelevant speaking, you could explained both method in just a couple of minutes
I don't know if it's my phone or your videos. But I just tried to watch too and it's the same thing sometimes the audio just cuts out
I am super stoked about watching you start the season Luke! Have a Merry Christmas!
What size are those Condiment containers? Where do you find them for a couple of bucks?
Why don't you start the seeds in the hydroponic growing planter ?
thanks so much, the plastic cup method is more successful then starting in the stonewool/rockwool for me
Can u plz do a video on how to use rooting powder ? My grandpa used to use it for his garden and had lots of success with it unfortunately he's no longer with us so I can't ask him how to use it correctly
Do you use the same grow solution when planting seeds in the rookwool that you use when transferring to net cups in the totes?
I have a local Colorado above 7000 ft gardening page following your page for tips some may not work in our area but we love ya.
Merry Christmas to you too from Lebanon :)
What kind of grow solution are you using in the water?
what size are your petri dishes, 2 oz etc?

how exactly is the 15-12-10 mixed. im new =D
Seed + water = done
My brain is like the rock wool just add your videos and I get full of knowledge
MIgardner, I've heard some folks say to grow the seedling in a dark damp area, will that work when there is no light till it spouts?
Depends on which plant you are trying to grow. Different plants need different conditions in order to sprout.

Kieran Leopold do you have a source for information for beginners? I’m not a new gardener but I’m new to hydroponics.
I'm confused, you've said seeds need to be in dark place so you cover it, so why you put it under the light?
I have same question. Which seeds need darkness and which need light?
actually just put them in indirect light. If it got too dark, the seedlings will grow long, thin, and pale. Just pit them in indirect light

Some other people say we should germinate in the dark, and only expose to light once we see the true leaves
Do you have to have the growlight on during germination? Or do you turn it on once they sprout?
Can you use the petrie dish method for the smaller seeds as well, or do you have to use the rockwool?
Just bought my first indoor hydroponic it's not big but can't wait to try it out thanks for the tips and ideas
Grow some Cucumbers 🌱
Waiting for next video on this
If tried the petri dish method with arugala seeds thank you for the advice
When they sprout do you take the seeds out of the starter cubes or move them to your hydroponic set up?
Thanks for the video, is your hydroponic solution organic?
how do you prepare the growing solution ? what does it include?
Can we grow money plant using kratky method?
Matt, the seeds are rooting to the paper towel? What next?
Also Luke.. Rock wool is certainly not glass. it is ROCK WOOL. A volcanic substance.
These videos should be growing in popularity

When will the Crimsons be available?
I have the same question, I keep refreshing the website and searching his videos just in case.
Can you compost the rockwool?
Also, what nutrients did you use?
No composting rockwool, it's basically like fiberglass insulation which is why you should only handle it bare handed after it's wet. Even if you did try it would just sit there as rockwool for thousands of years because rock doesn't break down. It literally is just rock but in the shape of sharp long microscopic spear/ropes.

Talk to us about grow lights from what is available on the market.
There's a lot of different kinds of grow lights and it would be very difficult to compare anything but a couple specific products.
