The Solar Pond Aerator has Problems // With a Bad Ending

The solar powered pond aerator is having issues and not pumping air into the backyard pond. It was running fine at first hook-up in the spring, but after a week it's stopped pumping air into the pond. There are no bubbles coming from the diffuser stone at the bottom of the pond. This must be the brushes on the pumps going bad, so I ordered some replacement pumps and hope that does the trick. The ice is just coming off the pond and I can't afford to risk having the oxygen stop being pumped into the cold water. A broken down aerator at this time of year could be deadly to the fish in the pond. At the end of the video, our worst fear is realized.

Like was said if you have your aerator on the bottom youll move the non Ox water up and mix it around and suffocate the fish..as well as any toxic trapped gases in the sediment, the big ones usually die first. Good rule of thumb is to have your aerator about 2/3rd's off the bottom for the winter and you can lower when the ice leaves but do it a bit every day so you dont stir up all the rotten vegetation.
On the shore I'd use a rye/vetch mix soon, itll root and with a week youll have 4 inch grass...rain permitting.

I went through some same erosion issues like you have planted annual ryegrass to get roots in ground and hard fescue or no mow grass spartan 2 worked well for me.

I turned my aerator on too early I believe and pushed the warm water up and the cold water down. If you watch a couple of my videos it shows a small portion to how many I have lost.. I’d proceed with caution. It sucks
