Wow! I put those same slash-cut drag pipes on my 95 Intruder back in 97. That bike had a phenomenal factory paint that was a black cherry metallic. Received many compliments from passing motorists in the Chicago area despite not being a Harley. Fun bike, good stuff.
Actually that does sound very smooth and healthy for a VS GLP Intruder. Even 9 years down the road. You nailed the sound quality with this video too !!!
@Stan Wilhite, the shocks I put on are stock shocks from a Suzuki Marauder 800. They drop it as far as possible without rubbing in the stock fender. I paid about $80 for the shocks off EBay. @brotherheed00 Yes I put in a stage 1 jet kit as I took the stock cobra baffles out and put in some home made lollie pops for a bit of back pressure . I am in the middle of tearing the bike apart right now for painting and will be making it into a solo seat, this will require getting rid of the air boxes and just using cone air filters so I will have to do a stage 3 jet kit when it goes back together. @Billy Slade I got the locally at a Suzuki Dealer. They were the cheapest. You can also get them on EBay but for me once the shipping to Canada was added on they were too much.
Because of this video I also bought the same pipes for my 1998 Intruder 1400 cc. I love the sound of these pipes. I want to say thank you for posting this video. I posted a video of my bike on Utube also but I am having a hrd time finding my video . I have only found it 1 time. But once again Thank you .
I have a 97 VS 1400. Great running bike. Great at cold starts. Fires every morning. My daily. Great for tooling around town but not very comfy for long cruises.
That rear cylinder pipe looks like it might be a little toasty on your leg. I put hard Crome right side slash cut on my 92. The rear cylinder pipe routes forward then down to cross over in front of battery box. Works well, put a Crome cover on now exposed drive shaft housing. 26,000 miles but people mistake it for show room new. I like Perrelli Routes for rubber. Halogen Ultra head light bulb works well.
Nice Video, I just got a 2000 vs1400 and it came to me with NO mufflers, I ordered the cobra slash slipons, I keep hearing this bike is tough to tune without the stock pipes, have you had any issues with these pipes and did you have to retune anything and how do they perform? TY
lovely bike i have the same bike same year colour as yours mines still has standard exhaust that join up at back of engine am sure its something like a balance shaft for fumes could be wrong found this out as i wanted to change the exhaust over for straight pipes but was told i couldnt because of the balance shaft and could damage engine ?
Who told you that I put these pipes on my 1998 1400cc and I have no issues at all. I love the sound of pipes. These pipes actually sound better than Vance & hines pipes.
Thanks. Its not a problem to put pipes without the equalizers on. The damage to the engine most people are referring to is the leaning out of the engine because of the increased airflow that the pipes allow. Basically increasing the airflow through the engine needs to be balanced by increasing the fuel. If you don't the bike will run lean and hot. For after market pipes or straight pipes a stage 1 is usually enough. If you change the air filters as well to pods then a stage 3 would be most likely required.
You can buy an after market system that crosses the left to the right and in doing so you remove the big heavy collector box. It makes it run a lot better. Also in making the change you should rejet the carbs. My crossover system is made by Jardine.
I got the same pipes. Sadly it destroyes the power of your engine. Try revving it full throttle and the bike just chokes. You will struggle passing cars at normal road speeds! You need to remap your engine on a dyno which is very expensive and also adjust your carburetor and on top of that get a decent baffler. Is it worth it? If you are all about sound and looks, it's worth it. The bike looks way better with them on. And alsor emoves some weight. The other plus side is that you don't have to burn your left leg anymore (any intruder ride will know what I mean). But if you are more about just riding and performance, it's not worth it.
Absolutely. If you change the pipes you need to rejet the carbs. Also use K&N air filters you get a lot more air flow and increased Horse Power. This bike has 2 air filters. Everyone forgets to do these 2 simple things. Always rebuild carbs if you have issues with your carbs. Never clean them. Do the work correctly or don't do it at all. If your exhaust backfires then you need to REBUILD the carbs NOT CLEAN THE CARBS. Change your oil every spring also, and properly winterize your bike use the star tron in the blue bottle it is the best. Throw out that C Foam crap . and always put a battery tender on the battery . It increases the life of the battery by 3 times. Especially on these bikes you want to put on a battery tender because the battery is so difficult to get at. When you do need a new battery then go from an acid filled battery to a nice sealed battery. It is a better battery. Not a Walmart battery go to the motorcycle shop and buy a motorcycle battery. I am not a dealer or a shop I am just a person who owns a bike and I like doing things correctly. One more thing change your final drive gear oil. Very simple to do you can do it yourself.
Yes at this stage it had a stage 1 jet which is just shimming the needles. If you go to Pod filters (which I did later) then you need to do a stage 3 jet which is higher on the needles again and larger main jets and I also put a larger pilot jet in.
Good looking/sounding bike! I just recently bought an '04 that I'm going to put LED turn signals on (it already has pipes like you installed and a bunch of other add ons). Is that what you're going to do? Also, how expensive are the shocks you're going to install? Thanks, Stan in N AL
Hey Rob,thanks for your reply....missed the 1st one somehow. Do you have any trouble w/the fender rubbing when riding a passenger w/those 10.5's? I weigh 260 and occassionally have a passenger of about 150....any idea on whether there might be a rubbing problem? Also, any idea who makes the brightest turn signal bulbs(there are zillions of them out there now)? I have the black lens and they naturally dim the lights quite a bit (but I like the way they look in the daytime). PS. Some of the China LED's aren't as bright as the factory bulbs! (I've I've tried 4 different pairs,) TIA Stan

8 years later and that still sounds sweet!
Actually that does sound very smooth and healthy for a VS GLP Intruder. Even 9 years down the road. You nailed the sound quality with this video too !!!
it sounds great, this is the first time ive actually looked up sound clips of a intruder and i was impressed with the way it sounded, good job
Best sounding one I've heard man well done
I hope you kept that beauty..... sounds great!

Thanks for the reply Robert. I'm guessing the 80.00 shocks were "used"?

Awesome, glad the video helped you out!!
Man I thought my 97 had a top end tap but im sure its just my exhaust leak im 100% aware of hell yea thank you!

Nice ❤️
Sold my Dragstar 650 last week and getting an Intuder 1400 myself next one , it's got V&H I believe
Best sound ever 🥰
This is gonna be my first street bike. Super exited
@John VanDenburgh - I did a stage 1 jet.
Did you trade in the front brake disc for the pipes?
That rear cylinder pipe looks like it might be a little toasty on your leg.

Bill Bright yep. Got a nice burn once or twice when I had shorts on... lol
What bars are those up front?!?!?!
Sounds awesome. I got a 99 vs800 with VH pipes sounds better then a Harley cruising pass
Amazing sound. Where did you get this exhaust from? 🙏
I have a small 2013 250 intruder I can not find parts for suck as cobra pipes and other little bits :(
did you have to mess with the carbs at all putting the new pipes on?
Where did you get the handlebars at?
What baffles do you have in them. Mine has no baffles
Tell me about those bars, are they factory?
Did you have to re jet the carbs if so what did you use
beautiful bike i just got a 98
Wow man!!! One of the beauty 90s bike I ever see!! U still have it??
did you rejet your carbs?
Intruder vs 1400 number 1 bike 🇷🇸🐺🐺🐺
I have the same exact bike. What handle bars and risers are on your bike.
austin fertterer they are stock one piece riser/bars. They are about an 8" rise.

wow might pick those up just brought my bike today on sale for a great price
That's sounds awesome!!!

Why do some of these have both pipes on the right side, and some have a pipe on either side?? i can’t find an answer

@@williammawk1720 no shit, thanks for the response man
@@williammawk1720 i had no idea haha
I have 96 glp 1400 intruder new hotrod mufflers I've invested over 10000 restoring and replacing bad parts
More videos please.
Nice bike.
sounds excellent.... 👍
@robert Greenlaw. .. have you had to adjust the carbs?
Yes. Stage 1 jet had to go in for these pipes
I have a 91, did you have to do any carb mods to get them to run correctly?
U still have you intruder??
Good sound!

I ended up using shocks from a Suzuki Marauder 800. They are 10.5" eye to eye and dropped it right down. Check out my other video to see the results
Hey Rob,thanks for your reply....missed the 1st one somehow.

Yes they have rubbed a bit. I'm about 200 and rarely ride with a passenger. I'd recommend 11.5's if you ride with a passenger
Good idle sound. Just can’t make any dual pin crank motor sound good at cruising speed... sound like lawn mowers. Super comfy bikes though
where did you buy your drag pipes at bro ?
Just a local bike shop.
What are you doing? We want the sound of the machine, not your voice
javito lokito too bad... enjoy my yappin
