Apple's Journal app that arrived as part of iOS 17 uses your location in a very unique way. It may sound scary, but here's how the Journal location sharing works and how you can disable Discoverable by Others if you so choose.

Thanks for clearing this up. This story was blown out of proportion and exaggerated to freak people out about nothing and get clicks. However, for a company that claims their core value is user privacy, they should have communicated what is happening and made it crystal clear.

Deleting the app does NOT stop sharing your location, you have to manually set it to not allow in the privacy settings, this setting is still there after you delete this app

apple apps do not even work...im beginnging to think it is delibrate to encourage developers to create apps.... i pay so much for apple devices and subcriptions (avg $3-$7 per day per device) and then pay monthly ONE ... calendar cant search my previous appointments...journal shares my data with my landscaper...notes collaborate JUMPS around...keyboards all work different on different devices and dirrent apps...sooo many bugs...mail on one device wont appear on other devices...mail disappears...mail is unsearchable...Onboard AI scans everything and logs it for itself before i even get to see the file...i can go on and on...apple is a mofia ...i use less and less everyday...i will NOT be buying Any replacement apple extra devices like i used to
