  • Are third party camera batteries any foo and are they safe?
    I use these ones geni.us/CheapB...
When I started photography with my Canon 5dmk2 all those many years ago before finally upgrading to the Canon 5ds, everyone thought that using cheaper Neewer or wasabi power batteries might make you cameras explode. But thanks to Canons 70D and the Canon 80D, Canon 90d and Canon 6D series all using the same batterys with the LP E6, it means that extremely cheap third party options are readily available and extremely affordable.
    In my bag I have
    Canon 90mm TS-E lens amzn.to/2YBUPxh
    Canon 45mm TS-E Lens amzn.to/33iZwel
Carl Zeiss 100mm Makro Plannar Milvus f/2 amzn.to/2osNmzY
    Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 amzn.to/2N0yi6D
    Sigma Art 35mm f/1.4 amzn.to/2M99No6
    Canon 5DS. amzn.to/2KpHjnX

When shooting stills, I agree with you. But when shooting video, genuine Cannon batteries reliably show their battery level, while knock-offs usually don't, and the cost of loosing video footage because a battery conks out unexpectedly (say, as a couple is reciting their vows) can be a lot worse than the price of an Cannon battery.

It just happened to me tonight. I was using a third party battery for the Sony A7iv. As I was reaching the hour mark during the wedding, my camera shut down and I couldn’t view the video that I have just recorded. It turns out the battery was not good and it Shut down my camera at 25%. I will never use third-party batteries ever again I Wouldn’t suggest it at all cost.

I bought third party batteries for my Nikons and they were from a highly-regarded company whose AA batteries I always choose. They were, of course, a fraction of the cost of the Nikon batteries but, after three months, all three of the third party batteries were useless - stating that they were fully charged but, in fact, having only minutes of charge. Thus I will stick with the branded batteries henceforth.

you need to be careful and keep under supervision while charging. These batteries mostly do not have property working overheating control which is the middle connector reports to the charger. You can check if the charger comes with 2 or 3 connection points to validate this. Geniun batteries and charger use this circuit to prevent explosion and overcharging

Short and straight to the point. Actually, my father in law bought a Canon 77D. He let me borrow it for a day, when I put it to charge, the battery didn't charge and when I plugged it back into the camera, it said it might not be the original battery. Pretty weird, I was bummed out because I felt that he thought I messed it up. Another lesson, if someone is letting you borrow gear, make sure to test it in front of them, that way you and the person letting you borrow it knows that its working condition! Sometimes they have so much gear that they forget the condition of it.

I believe Canon original battery has chip inside to communicate with the camera to read battery life and performance more accurately. The knockoff ones also has them but they failed me before so for me it’s not worth it especially you’re in a middle of paid jobs. Besides, one of my oldest ep6 battery from 2012 still works fine. After many recharge

I bought wasabi batteries for my fuji X-T20 and they got bloaded after like 6 months. I SAID F THIS. Bought the originals and haven't had any problems since. They also have a much longer battery life and have not become bloaded.

I still won't risk it, for my sony dsc-w350 I only use Energizer aftermarket batteries because I trust Energizer, even then the only reason why I don't use OEM batteries is because Sony doesn't make them anymore, my camera us NP-BN1 batteries but they only make NP-BN batteries.
