- Putting together most of my knowledge from previous videos, I'm going to go on a long flight between Bournemouth (EGHH) and fly up the British mainland then across to Belfast (EGAA) where I'll land. This flight covers a very basic look at flight planning, pre-flight checks, take off and the first couple of legs of the trip.

Thanks for these vids, friend, even after that many years and you gone to fly the real thing now. They are still very important and highly appreciated. Guess you are a real Flight instructor by now?
I never had luck with my A2A C172 R in FSX SE at these times. It was unflyable and sadly this was never accepted by a2a. The plane had a tendency to rocket up from the runway after reaching 50 kts and immediately stall of course. This happened with normal trim settings. I managed to keep it sort of level with a very progressive pitch down trim and quite some push on the yoke too. I finally cured this behavior by replacing the air.cfg file from a2a with the FSX default one. Now it flies like the def c172 of course, but it flies.
Edit: gave it some second try after watching your video (2023) and having more reality experience with real flying now in the last years: actually it seems having been pilot errors then. The a2a cessnas (especially the 230 hp 182t) behave totally different from the fsx default planes. The take off trim is quite a bit more in direction of pitching down (above the neutral indicator marker at the wheel), where the „K“ from „take off“ is. The other problem was, it had damages and I simply forgot to take it to the hangar and have it checked…. A2A is crazy! 😛
great video quality. vibration when start the engine.
great simple commentary..
Greetings from Istanbul..
+Sinan Genç Thank you Sinan, the A2A Cessna is an awesome aircraft to fly!
Tip: The power checks into wind are never done strictly into wind . Don't face the wrong way on the taxiway. Just approximate so your downdraught will not affect a plane behind you will do. The comment about the Quadrantial rule is correct. Add to that, look at your sector spot heights on the chart. You must be (as I remember) in IFR flight 1000 feet minimum above the tallest object in the sector. After takeoff checks should include fuel pump OFF through 1000 feet. Pre-landing, learn the abbreviations.. a good one is BUMPFITCH... use Wiki.. great videos, natural teacher, good enough for groundschool for us real world pilots
Switch off to prolong the life of the Pump. Its needed when changing tanks, to pump through air bubbles and on take off and landing in case the mechanical pump fails. Other than that, if the mechanical pump fails in flight as part of your drill, you put the pump back on and the engine will quickly restart. If you keep it on all the time it could fail at a critical time due to being "on" permanently and overheating or a bearing going. If you test it on take off, it will last for that flight. If you turn it off and use sparingly. If you leave it on then you have a reduced chance of it lasting for that flight. Its a statistical thing basically. Leaving it on is not a disaster though.. people forget.
Thanks actually if you use the thumb wheel that changes it! The knob being pulled in or out I'm not sure the purpose of!
Yes the shift and those number keys work
Thanks again enjoy your site from here in NJ
Nice one Doofer.....You have started my weekend with just the nav. tuition I need. Still have all your video's filed under 'knice-to-know-knowledge'......Roll on next Saturday and the next leg of the flight.
. Thanks for getting back to me. I think that you deserve a very relaxing holiday.
Once you’re above transition altitude you should be set at Qnh 1013 standard pressure then back to regional at 3000ft on approach
Great concept for a video.
your tutorials are the best, thank you very much....SUPER!!!!!
You need to hit the DMB button on the radio stack so that you can hear the identifier fella.
That's good news. If you get in you might consider a posting to Gibraltar. There are only half-a-dozen flights from UK a day and a dozen or so private aircraft so it'll be a good station to ease yourself into your new job. I know because I monitor the air traffic comms. From time to time the RAF flies in for an exercise otherwise, it's quite quiet. [I spend more time listening to shipping traffic than aircraft!] Catch you later.
Yeah I know that NATS is responsible for ATC down there. Will have to wait and see though, going to feel like a long time before I can re-apply and circumstances might be different then.
Doofer - New Sub here. Really enjoying your videos. I find them to be an absolute wealth of very helpful information. Thanks again and keep up the good work
Welcome to the channel, glad you're enjoying the videos :)
Wow, what a wealth of information. I am fairly new to FSX so have no idea where to start. I understand basic takeoff, flight etc however flight plans and the different add-ons you have here are amazing. Any tips or your playlist videos I should do in order? Thank you soo much for the quality video and explanation!
Hey Leo, Yeah I've organized all my Flight Sim and Aviation videos into a playlist which I feel follows a logical progression from takeoff all the way to planning an international flight. You can fly the playlist here and feel free to skip any videos which you already know about: ua-cam.com/play/PLPgR-UyZEDFp3z_sn_uVXEiVvtE5VKzSP.html
Thank you soo much!
Hi, I Liked your video, can please tell me how did you cat the Cessna and the realistic per-check list. I have FSX Gold addition and could not find that picture detailed check list. Cheers.
Really great video. I copy the flights you do to learn how to play this sim. I have the video playing while doing it myself on the side. ive learnt so much with these videos. The tutorials were a life saver. I hope you keep up the great work. and any snobby pilots can stfu.
love to see more of this :)
Excellent. Dont worry abt the sound. I like it. Realistic
tony
nice work
Hi I'm totally new in the flight sim world, although planes and flying was always one of my dreams. Recently cause of the fenomenal things I saw from MSFS2020, i decided to get into the flightsimworld. So your vids are like a bible to me :-).
When I was watching this vid, I start to wonder, you fly here without a weather radar, when you decide to make a turn and avoid some dangerous clouds?
Thx in advance for your reply!
Another good vid Doofer, Look forward to the next one. If I may, the reason your engine sounds were so loud is that you didn't have your headset on. Remember this is A2A. Every little thing right? Love my 172 I've been flying it everywhere. I've flown the Cherokee and the new Comanche also. I think the Comanche is going to be my new go-to plane. See you next time.
Rick Breton Yep that was it, I could have sworn I did it but I've just watched the video back and I missed it! I'm tempted by the new Comanche as well, I've seen a few videos of it and it does look like a nice plane to fly.
Doofer911 OOps as much as I love the Comanche, I meant the Cherokee is my new go to. I just love the layout and the ease that it flies and the AP works great for those longer trips.
Really great video, very informative. Are you a real pilot? Cause your procedures look very real.
I'm not a real pilot sadly, just a flight sim enthusiast.
How did you make the yoke disappear in your 3D VC-mode? Also how did you get all those wonderful checklists to pop-up? Your tutorials are so informative, btw. A great help to all!! Thank you! Thank you!
+Ajit Koshy They're both features specific to the A2A Cessna 172 add-on plane. To remove the Yoke I just clicked on the yoke's column which runs into the instrument panel. As for the checklists, they come as standard with A2A planes.
Great stuff!
Happy New Year. Hope 2018 is as good or better than 2017
Happy New Year! Onwards and upwards to a prosperous 2018! :)
Couple of thoughts for you. I gave you a nudge about Plan G recently. One of its many advantages is that all those frequencies etc. that FSX doesn't make available, Plan G does.
Heartening to know that you too suffer unintended hiccups on your intended flights!
I don't have anything of A2A aircraft as yet. This 172 looks very attractive, although the 182 is even more so.
REX. My d/load speed is around 1.75 to 2 MB. Would REX even function at those speeds?
Finally, whilst I quite enjoy Froogle's clips I do find that he is a bit 'in your face'. Fortunately you are not.
Bravo.
Phew.
***** Hey James, thanks for the reminder about Plan G....I haven't forgotten about it honest! I had to produce 4 videos in 2 weeks so it was quite full on and I didn't have much free time to check it out but I plan on completely re-installing and re-tweaking FSX when I get back from holiday so I'll take a look at it then. Can't guarantee the next video will be on it but I'll certainly start getting familiar with it.
With regards to REX, you should be ok. With the Weather, REX will download weather reports when you first start the program so it takes a moment or two. After that (I think) it'll only download updated reports for the area you're flying which isn't a lot of data at all, maybe a couple of Kilobytes. The software runs in the background and generates the weather based on what the reports tell it, it's not generating the weather from a server and downloading it to your computer, it all happens in the background on your computer.
As a pilot I cannot tell if this video is a joke... Turns on pitot heat and proceeds to enter known icing conditions in a Cessna 172. He recognized the effects of it by having the airspeed drop while the autopilot trimmed up. He also leaned the engine while in a climb????
its a game ffs
How do you activate pre flight check and how do you change nav knob to change number to the right of decimal point in radio stack
Thanks enjoy your vids very much
Great Video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Anyone know if you can get these sort of checkists on fs2020, would like to be able to do the walk around checks like this?.
what addon is that pre flight checklist? and the fuel thing you had up. thanks
omg you did it after taxiiing to short of runway 8
Why don't you use the inbuilt headphones in the Cessna 172?
Diamond Cubez I forgot during this recording! :(
Hi Doofer:
Just got the A2A 172 and love it to death. I'm very intrigued by your EGHH-EGAA tutorial. How did you generate the route ? FSX Steam doesn't do it, I have PFPX would that do ?
Yeah PFPX should do the job however I when flying the Cessna I normally manually plan my route using a website called SkyVector.
Thanks mate, I figured out the SkyVector site in fact already had it on my box but I had never used it. Looks a lot less complicated than PFPX. Now to try and figure out the IFR shebang! I love your videos BTW.
If you're flying west, shouldn't you be at an even number thousand feet, plus 500 feet? For example, shouldn't you be at 8,500', and not 8000'?
Great video btw -- i'm in the process of watching your whole FSX series.
Yeah, I'm not fully familiar with it and I didn't know it at the time I made this vid, but what you're thinking of is something called the Quadrantal Rule. Just reading this off Wikipedia...
Heading 000-089 - Fly at ODD thousands (3,000ft, FL290)
Heading 090-179 - Fly at ODD thousands plus 500ft (3,500ft, FL295)
Heading 180-269 - Fly at EVEN thousands (4,000ft, FL300)
Heading 270-359 - Fly at EVEN thousands plus 500ft (4,500ft, FL305)
Hi Tx for the great video, how do you get rid of the yoke?
Pls make some videos on commercial jetliners. As Boeing Airbus...
I've got a whole tutorial series on the Airbus A320 and plenty of livestreams in jets.
Doofer911 oops sorry I actually forget sorry...the tutorial of airbus was of you .as didn't remember the channel so ...and all the male voices of fsx tutorial are pretty much same so I thought that was another guy.....any ways I have done much better in perfect land but I can't land b737 with full flaps 40 I land it with 10 or 15 flaps so is this right? Cauz when I enable 40 flaps then the plane does not land and goes out of runway and pls tell me one this that on b737 and747 787-8,9,10 how much feet should I remain on ILS? 2500 or1500 or 1000 as the plane doesn't land if the altitude is higher with full flaps and without full flaps the autothrottle doesn't work perfectly and some times decrease and increase so don't mind kindly help me about this things...☺
Is it default FSX or you have some mods?
you didn't do the 1800rpm run up after start!!!
How did you download this plan.
"It's alive!" hahaha Great video!
Can a Cessna really fly this high up? Wouldn't a pilot pass out from the lack of oxygen since the plane is not pressurised?
not at 8000ft
even the cabin pressure of a real aircraft is the equivalent of 8000ft
Hypoxia becomes a danger at altitudes higher than 10000ft
thanks. I just haven't seen many Cessna's flying through clouds
I live at 6000 ft :-)
Great tutorial as usual. What is the app you referred to for calculating pressure?
It was just a free app which does all sorts of conversions, like miles into km, Temperature conversions etc. There's plenty of free apps which do the job.
Ah thanks
28:00 lean mixture plz
TY for your Radio Check. I was wondering whether you made it into NATS?
Sadly not, got to the final stage and did an interview with them however I didn't get offered a job as a trainee.
Sorry to hear.[Haven't replied earlier because my PC has gone bust and I've only managed to partially revive it. No sound yet, though...] Any chance you might resit? Or is it a "definite NO"? I won't keep you from your project. Good luck for the future.
I can re-apply in a year's time so I'll probably try again then. Not sure if I'll have to resit all the exams and stuff, don't think I need to but I'll check when the time comes.
i thought the 172 has flaps up on take off
If the plane isn't heavy, you can do a flaps up takeoff. With a few passengers and a lot of fuel, you'd probably want a stage of flaps for the extra lift
Actually I am referring to the a2a 172 trainer and I'm on windows 10
If you press SHIFT + 1-7, each number brings up a different pop up. As for the knob, I can't remember exactly but the smaller one can pull out and I think that's how you adjust the number. It's been a while since I've flown the 172.
I have been doing a lot of flying recently on the A2A C172 to try and learn it to my best ability as I am just about to begin training for my private pilots license. A question I want to ask though is do you feel as if you need to apply quite a bit of forward pressure on the yoke after taking off? When I take off I always feel as if I need to apply a lot of forward pressure on the yoke to stop the aircraft from going completely vertical. I know that some sort of forward movement would be required but to me it feels as if I need a lot more pressure than normal. A reply from anyone who would know anymore about this would be much appreciated!
Robbie Torrance Yeah I've found that in FSX as well, with the Trim set at the Takeoff mark, I've found the plane pretty much lifts itself off the runway at about 50-55 kts then I end up pushing the nose down to manage speed. Usually I end up re-trimming the plane once I've settled into a climb just after takeoff. I can't say if this is the same as how a real C172 would handle but I do know that it'd feel like doing a pushup constantly pushing on the controls. By adjusting the trim, it takes the "weight" out of the controls if that makes sense. Hopefully there's a real pilot on here who may be able to offer their insight.
Doofer911 Ye I have yet to fly a C172 in real life, I only have been flying microlight aircraft down here in Perth (EGPT). Maybe it is how the real thing acts but I am not completely sure. Thanks for the reply and yeah hopefully a real pilot of a C172 could answer the question.
Can you fly the Cessna 172 safely in icing conditions in the real world? It may have a pitot heat, but it doesn't have de-ice boots or wing anti-ice. When I saw the OAT drop below 0, I thought about that.
I don't think so, you'd be looking to avoid any potential icing conditions.
Doofer911 flying in the layer with -6C you have no chance to avoid icing buildups. C172 is not certified for known icing conditions. You are not allowed to fly at this FL. Let’s say the bottom of the layer is below MSA and the top is above fl100. Can you still get IFR clearance by radar vectoring below MSA?
How'd you get the thing in the side? Is that from the kneeboard? +Doofer911
+Kevin Davis Yeah it's like a built in "Panel" or kneeboard that comes with that plane. There's several custom windows that you can open with SHIFT+1, 2, 3 etc.
hello, I love your videos. Does this plane have a 2d panel view as well?
+decoeric Hey there, thanks very much! :) Unfortunately there's no 2D Instrument Panels. It has custom checklist and a custom map "Panel" but you'll only be able to see the instruments from the Virtual Cockpit I'm afraid.
+Doofer911 Thanks for the reply. I am an avid FSX flyer and I am so far not a huge fan of the virtual cockpit and mostly use the 2D panel. Currently I am in the middle of a flight from CYLT to SAWH in the Cessna 172. I plotted the whole thing out using skyvector.com. It has been a lot of fun, lots and lots of VOR and NDB practice. I haven't flown any leg of it using GPS. Thanks a lot of the videos and please keep them coming!
+decoeric Wow that's quite a route! Looks awesome to fly north to south!
Minor point. How do you make the yokes go away and does this apply to all aircraft.
Unfortunately it's a feature linked to the A2A Cessna, it's not something that can be done on the default FSX planes. I simply clicked the area where the yoke shaft goes into the instrument panel to remove the yoke.
hi just making sure are you using Microsoft flight simulator x 2006 for this lesson
I believe in this video I was still using the DVD version of FSX.
Does the A2A Cessna 172 Trainer support FSX Steam Edition? Thanks!!
+King Lim Pang Yes it works with FSX Steam
dude, u forgot ur mixture settings
Hi, I downloaded the ASA Cessna but after installing it, it isn't in the SimObject folder and it doesn't show up in the aircraft menu. Running Windows 10.
Best to contact A2A's support team for assistance.
@@Doofer911 Thank you, this afternoon I turned on the computer and discovered the plane and supporting files siting on the desktop. I'm very excited to try this new plane!
Interesting that this plane follows so close to real that I inadvertently blown the engine up. It took several hours of searching to figure out how to get the plane fixed. lol All is well now and thanks again.
Y can't you go from airport to airport directly? Thanks!
+King Lim Pang You can with the right navigation equipment but generally you fly along Airways which are like roads in the sky. Keeps air traffic nice and organised and safe.
Make sure it is....there.... XD
How well is Ireland simulated in the game? (especially Ulster)
+No. 85 Merlin I'm not sure I'm afraid. You may see a cluster of buildings on the ground but by default, I doubt that you'd recognise any roads or landmarks. You can get add-ons which draw accurate roads and make the ground textures and buildings a lot more realistic.
Doofer911 But are many small airports actually in the game, like Enniskillen or Donegal for example?
I think they will be yeah, a lot of small airports are in the game however it may literally be a runway in the middle of a field if it's a very small airport.
Hi there is that fsx steam edition..??
Yep, FSX: Steam Edition however this aircraft is an add on by A2A Simulations.
This should be good practice now that you’re doing the real thing.
I'll hopefully touch on some IFR items later on in the PPL study but it's not actually required to get a PPL.
Testing
Receiving loud and clear ;)
28:40 haha just did it
why not use the default fsx planes? Not everyone can afford this online virtual planes
I've used default aircraft for each tutorial. Very few of my videos are made for my personal enjoyment, each video is aimed at showing different flying/navigation techniques.
What the hell wrong with you ? You charge $$ for your videos now ! Its too early bro....I tespect your work and effort...knowledge...but...its not the right time to charge.....I subscribe long time age and now you kick me out your channel ? Wow...
What are you talking about? I don't charge for any videos other than a few which are in Patreon which talk about my creative process and how I write, record and edit a video. All if my tutorial videos are here on UA-cam. If you have evidence which says otherwise, please show me.
@@Doofer911 looooooool
