  • While the KITPLANES crew was horsing around in Homedale, Idaho, flying the riotously fun Super Sport with the Rotax 916 aboard, Kitfox owner John McBean took us on a tour of the factory. From the homegrown steel-tube cage built in a novel opening jig to the composites shop and the wing room, virtually all of the Kitfox kit is built right there in western Idaho. #kitfox #homebuiltaircraft

Love what John has done with the company. I have been looking at kits for many years. It’s almost time for me to place a down payment. It will be a Kitfox.

Did I hear/understand right that currently (as of Dec 2023, or so) the lead time (delivery date) of a factory built kitfox is 3 Yrs from the date of order? If so, how does kitfox and customer agree on the cost of an aircraft? Meaning, if I was to order a kitfox today at $150k but, lets say due to inflation in 3 years (2026) the same aircraft is sold for $170k (or even minus $130k)... what is the actual price kitfox and the customer agree to on the day of the order??

Best to give Kitfox a call to see what the current purchase agreement says. 208-337-5111

I can't understand why kitfox doesn't offer a version that keeps the frame but is covered with riveted aluminum sheets. Why not? The single biggest complaint I've heard about the kitfox build process (other than parts not fitting correctly - which is ridiculous) is not only how messy the ironing, priming and painting process is but the aprox. 6 months or more time it adds to total build time. And that doesn't include having to deal with fumes and clean up. For this reason alone, I would opt for a Zenith if it weren't that their high wing aircraft are so damned ugly and weird looking.

Jigs? Empty. CNC machines? Empty. Order book? Empty.
