Ngl, despite the lack of paint, it is tempting to get this. I have gotten into custom painting recently and I wouldn't mind buying this vinyl figure for the purpose of adding paint to it and such.
Bruhdai practices be like: Sculpt and details - ✔ Paint - ❌ I get how this sucks but I also get what was mentioned at the end on how these figures are really the only available ones out there that aren't super expensive. That's how I ended up with the MMS Shin until I got the NECA one. Of course, I just wish more effort were put into them just like the older figures. It do be like that I guess.
It’s a weird mixed bag, they should be getting better as time goes on. But they’re only getting more corporate BS as time goes on. I can excuse the lack of 8 inch releases if the wider releases were actually painted up like the older ones. Eh. What can ya do? Better than nothing… but it should be better than better than nothing for the larger prices these are going for these days. But even then. I somehow don’t fully hate it. Lol
Definitely surprised it isn’t the same mold as their 4” Candy Toy. But the paint job is definitely similar between the two. Always a great Review by you Rob.
Same man, I was almost certain they were the same thing based on Bandai's sometimes lazy ways, but goddamn. A surprise, but a welcomed one at best! Glad ya enjoyed, fam!
'ey, just wanted to say you're awesome. I've known about your channel for a while and have only recently started binging your videos, new and old. I used to do figure reviews a long time ago, so its great to see new faces who have kept this niche little scene alive, and doing far better job at it, too. I just bought the new bandai '91 and Godzilla the ride after watching your reviews on them. Keep up the good work, dude.
Nice review Rob! Glad to see this figure is actually a really nice silver, I was expecting a dull plastic look, neat! Oddly enough, I was surprised to see your notification... You see, I genuinely assumed this figure hadn't been released yet, because I never received a payment conformation email by HLJ. I'm positive I pre-ordered it alongside the Eva units, being the massive Kiryu nut I am how could I not? So I checked through my HLJ account and found nothing. Yet checking my email, I did indeed get the whole "Order confirmed, we'll notify you when it becomes available" so I guess my original order just kinda fell through the cracks. Oh well, Godzilla day left me broke, so for my second order I only picked up the Kiryu which was thankfully still in stock, I did skip the Eva's however.
Glad ya enjoyed fam! The silver may've done this guy more favors than expected. Another case of In Hand vs. Promo judgment! And that's odd... HLJ are normally pretty on point with this kind of stuff, although something similar did happen with Megalon, but like ya said Kiryu is still in stonk. EH. I'd say you can skip this dude for the time being while you recover from the Godzilla Day fallout! A Necessary Response. As for the Eva Units... I'm actually kinda bamboozled they turned out as good as they did. more on that later!
lovely review as always! while i was very much on the hate train once the promo pics came out, your review warmed me up a little to this guy. might have to pick him up in the future
I was ready to hate him too my guy, but … dammit all I can’t fully hate him. Just the lack of paint. But even then.. I guess it’s just something to expect these days. But just because it’s common place doesn’t mean I have to like it lol But it works out in this guys case! Much better than expected!
@@kaiju-dr5qn Seems to be the unfortunate move their tacking. Decent to Mid attention to paint, for either way you look at it, 100% recognition. Very Corporate of you, Bandai.
Gotta say the lacking paint apps are what made me more excited for the eva units aside from evangelion simply entering the MMS, sure the evas might be missing some paint in some areas but honestly it doesn't look too bad from what I've seen so far, as for kiryu..... Was bandai so hyped about the amazing silver paint that they forgot kiryu had black wires? Not saying kiryu is the worst thing in the world, but I feel they could've at least painted the wires on the front.
They're missing a bit, but the fact that what WAS painted on them is rather impressive! If this is the kind of effort they'll be putting into the Eva stuff in the MMS I'm pretty curious to see what the next wave of Units look like! - As for Kiryu... I guess they were lol Had they painted.. even just the front half, this thing would be criminal with how much money It'd be bringing in, I think. I can't really think of a 'Side Bandai Excuse' they've done stuff like this before to a much better result and I'm not sure why it's so lost on this guy.
He's certainly up there as one of the best iterations for a multitude of reasons! Wonder if Bandai would consider a Battle Damaged version at some point...
Just what's planned for February and March, I dont remember much of who were on those polls, but most aren't on the docket. Not yet at least. I think they'll all have their time to shine in the MMS at some point in the future, whether as exclusives or wide releases. Seems Bandai's warming up to more designs, no matter how obscure, which is very nice!
@@ShinRobjira What is planned for February and March? Also. I really hope to see Minilla. Bandai's old Showa Minilla is okay, but it kind of looks off...
I really hope they at least try do have good paint where it's necessary on figures, unpainted areas especially on key design traits look really bad. This is a major issue with the new Kiryu & Varan, At least the sculpts kinda save the figure.
Yeah I'm not sure why all the wiring and stuff were left unpainted. Yeah, the new silver and blue paint apps are super nice and all, but it's upsetting to see so much barren wasteland on this guy... especially since the mold and details overall turned out as nice as it did! Varan... ugh. We'll see.
Yikes, I was hoping to get this one but after seeing the lack of black paint on all the wires and stuff is a real big turn-off for me. The detail is really good though... REALLY hoping Bandai didn't lack in paint just so they can release a "special color version" next year or something for a higher price.
You already know they’re likely planning it lmao G-Store exclusives are practically the Bandai Premium Junior at this point. But I wouldn’t expect too much of this guy next year… what with all that we are getting next year and such, but who knows? Bandais thrown me for a wicked curve before and I’m sure they’ll do it again! I forgot this year was even Kiryu’s anniversary. Makes me wonder why a new 2002 Goji wasn’t released as well. Unless 👀
I am VERY ANNOYED at this release. On the one hand it IS my favorite version of Kiryu (The Mark 1 version) and in the Movie Monster series no less. However, the lack of we get (color that is very present in ALL the previous releases of all various Kiryu Mark 2s) is REALLY making me upset 😡🤬
Honestly the old releases of figures are so much better they have more articulation and so much more paint and detail honestly it's kind of sad judging by where bandai is going with this
Lately Bandai has been killing it with the Gamera figures, the showa Kaiju from the Godzilla universe figure except for one, ( looking at you Varan, sculpted nice but those colors tho. 👎🏻 ) But the Heisei and Millennium figures in the last few years, they really been phoning it in sadly.
Wow. This is quite a half-assed figure. The detail is fine, but everything else fails real hard. The flat blue on the backpack is good, but everything else is shamelessly a boring silver with a no shading and black paint on the inner detail at all!!! This is real embarrassing bandai, not only the previous releases had better detail and paint, but also it's skinnier than the new 2022?!!! This is quite a budget figure that really shows why it's budget figure.
Previous Kiryu releases were all SOS Kiryus, him being skinnier is part of the design as compared to 2002 Kiryu. If that's what you mean.... im half alive right now I can't comprehend proper structure and meaning lol It Is in fact extremely lazy. The lack of black paint really hurts it, but at the same time, It really ain't too bad. Granted It's not too good either. Im divided. I like the paint used. I dislike the paint missing. I like the detail. I like the articulation. Not the full one Bruhdai moment I really thought It was going to be. ...But still pretty Bruhdai regardless.
I’m Surprised U Think This Figure Is Decent, I Thought U Were Gonna Go Off Cause In My Opinion, I Hate It, If The Figure Had Shading, I’ve Would Of Loved It
