I always thought this was more complicated than it actually is but I guess that was one of Kurts best skills making something simple sound more complex. Nice lesson thanks Ryan!
@@RyanLendt yep but it sounds good and if it sounds good than its the right chords!......i suppose thats why kurt said music theory stiffles creativity....Btw i love ur lessons, ive learnt many songs from you so thank you and keep up the good work mate.
6/13/19. Second song in a row detuned 1/2 step down(Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb). Do you figure out these detunings by your own ear, or you read about it, or a combo of ear plus reading about it? .... I think the. greatest "HORROR" soundtrack ever is George Romero's "Night of the Living Dead." How about you try and interpret that soundtrack to guitar or keyboard someday using your ear? Thanks, Ryan.
believe it or not, i've never seen night of the living dead. or back to the future for that matter :P I can tell immediately with my ear if it's detuned. All you gotta do is recognize a voicing (in this case, Am) and then see if regular tuned Am is right or not.
hehe, I promise you I forget how to play every single one of these songs within hours of making the video. And yes, I have done that :) Thanks for hanging out Buddy
I am really glad to find your tutorial! So simple, so accurate, clear and complete (includes transition and solo). Great that you explained the differences about playing B chord (Kurt/Pat). The tutorial deserves million views!
Hey Ryan quick question. If im playing a D chord and put my pinky on the baby e string 5th fret, is it still considered a D chord since e5 is an A? Also as contributor to the green day cause I'd like to request these please😂: 2000 light years away Christie Road Burnout Redundant 80 No one knows And Good riddance Thanks😂😂
YES! what a fantastic green day list! to answer your question: E5 is an A note, which takes the F# out of your D chord, making the chord you described technically a D power chord, with two roots and two 5ths, neither major nor minor. or both.
You know I can play all the 90's on drums too I played drums since I was 11 and my first band was a nirvana tribute we should get a 90's band going and rock out
Ryan Lendt no lmfao. Always played it in standard until about 3 years ago. It took me that long to realize there are more tunings than standard and drop d.
The General by Dispatch. Feel like u might dig this little diddy! I feel like I almost have it right but would love it to have someone way better than me try it out! Once again, great video!!!
“It’s not you it’s me.” Seems like a perfect topic for a Cake song. Who knew PennyTea was such a straight forward song, this will be added to the repertoire. Thanks Ryan!
Thanks for hanging out Don! It is true I don't like to talk about strumming patterns too much unless it's super signature to the song, because that's where all YOUR expression comes from. As a teacher, I'd much rather you strum away however you damn well please, even if it's not "right", and over time, you will find your strumming voice. This method only works if you actually play your guitar from time to time. People who only pick it up once a month should definitely be prescribed strumming patterns :)
in no time at all! we just got an incredible opportunity and we're moving to rural north carolina on june 1, 2020. it's gonna be vegetable growing, music making, tortoise palace :) oh, and there's a river on the property... Thank YOU sloth!

Most definitely the leading man in guitar lessons on UA-cam.
you're too kind michael :) Thanks for being here!

it's mostly due to his throwing chords together that have no business being together :) in this song it's the Bb
Its really slowed down jhonby cash and speed up Jonny cash songs and bay city rollors and neik diamond even

Yeah it was great since my guitar was still left in that tuning also
D0Nmega666 MEGA Stay in that tuning, dude. Next lesson is also detuned.
Do you ever go back on your UA-cam channel to quickly relearn songs you may have forgotten how to play over the years? Thanks for the lessons Ryan.

Sweet song & just in time, since I've pretty worn out X-Static over the past few days.
*Are you playing the power chords with your pinky finger?
the entire barre chord actually - I find myself doing that more lately on the electric. there's absolutely no reason for it.
@@RyanLendt by barre chord you mean fret A & D / D & G strings with your pinky?

One of the first songs I learned from front to back. And I actually learned it by ear. Still love to play it!
even got the detune by ear? well done tango!
