    Terrific Video - thank you. As an FYI - I ended up buying the USB 2.0 Video Grabber (I have Windows 11). That USB audio/video was less than $20 via Amazon (vs. the $50 for the recommended I-O Data USB ) - they worked without issue (No separate driver download - Windows supported them).

      Total neophyte here, taking this on as a newly retired guy so looking over the USB 2.0 Video Grabber listing on Amazon is daunting, perhaps you can share the one you used so I know it will work with my new Samsung Laptop with Windows 11 and no CD?
      Thank you

    You helped me figure out a couple of things I could not find in other UA-cam videos. I own a Dazzle video capture. I had to do a bit of Googling to find how to capture the sound. I now can convert my old 8mm tapes to my computer. Thanks!

      @@TheMediaNerdMT I did subscribe. The only issue I see is that I have the interlacing lines still. Do you have them when you used the GVU video capture? I have the Dazzle video capture.

    • @TheMediaNerdMT
      @TheMediaNerdMT  Рік тому

      If you are using the OBS software, go to your sources window and right click on video capture devise. The go to deinterlacing. at the bottom of the list, you can choose from "Top field First" or bottom field first". Chose which ever one that is not already checked. That may fix your issue. Also, in the deinterlacing tab, make sure that you have Yadif 2x selected. That will also remove the lines. While still in that window, double left click on the video capture devise and go to Configure video. Make sure that "WEAVE" is selected under the Vid deinterlace method section. I did another video for capturing VHS tapes using the OBS which I explain these settings. Thanks for subscribing! Let me know if this all works.

    Great detail and instruction. Followed all setup and have been able to get 8mm tape across to computer file but the end file video is not smooth like the original - movements are jerky. I tried several output settings without any change. Can you advise how to correct. Thanks.

    • @TheMediaNerdMT
      @TheMediaNerdMT  2 місяці тому

      There is a setting for even fields and odd fields. Right click on the video capture devise in the source window then click on Deinterlacing. Under that I selected Yadif 2x. You can also select top field first or bottom field first. Try one of those two to see what results you get. Good luck.

      Thanks for your response & suggestion. The original setting was the top field 1st so I tried the bottom and there was no change. During recording both camera & computer appear the same, but on playback the movements are not smooth, appear jerky. I played the camera beside the recorded computer file and the difference is obvious. Any other thoughts would be appreciated. I have a number of tapes to do dating from mid 80’s to about 2005…

      I am using Final Cut X. For screen capture I use either QuickTime when I’m in a Mac or wondershare on the pc. I simply reduce the size of my face and crop it layering over top of the main video. I do shoot both at the same time and sync it up

      If you have an external microphone plugged into your computer, unplug it. If you have a microphone that is part of your monitor, disable it in the computer settings. Also, in the software settings, check the audio inputs. Disable the microphone input

    I need your assistance please. After carefully following your examples and settings while using the same products, I did a 20 minute test recording. The recording came out ok but with one rather huge problem. The MP4 file was around 7 gig for a 20 minute file. If I wanted to put these one dvd's I should be able to fit 2 hours of recordings. But 7 gig is about 3-4 times bigger than the file should have been. I stayed up all night watching your video over and over and then going to other videos looking for something maybe that wasn't shared in your video. I had no luck. Any suggestions you can provide would be much appreciated...

      You are going to have to do a google search to see who develops film unless you can get a developing kit off of amazon. Once that you have it developed, you can use a transfer machine like the Kodak Reels. I do like the Kodak Reels over the other 8mm transfer machines. However, if you are shooting super8 with sound, you won't be able to use the Kodak Reels. You can check out my video on the Kodak Reels to see what you think. Best of luck and keep me posted! I have a Sony DCR-TRV350 - do you know what cable would be best to connect to a laptop? I have all Hi8 tapes to transfer. read elsewhere that SVideo is the better choice than DV/iLink cable - does the miniUSB to USB work to transfer to computer? cant wait to connect and try your process - seems pretty nice!

    • @TheMediaNerdMT
      @TheMediaNerdMT  7 місяців тому

      The firewire is the best out of all of them but I have only used the RCA cables. The svideo cable is better than the RCA however, there is a setting in OBS that you need to use in order to get the video picture. I don't know off hand where that setting is but you will need to use it. I really think that using the RCA works just fine. You really won't see a quality difference between the RCA and the S-Video.

    • @TheMediaNerdMT
      @TheMediaNerdMT  5 місяців тому

      I use my Mac and Final Cut Pro 7. The video is captured using Firewire. Once it is captured, it is a .mov file which is extremely large. I then put it through wondershare converter to make it a mp4 file. It reduces the size significantly while maintaining a good image.

    • @TheMediaNerdMT
      @TheMediaNerdMT  Рік тому +1

      The Cloner is a stand alone, no computer needed, the OBS with the I-O data uses a computer. If you just want to go straight to USB, then the cloner is the way to go. If you want to make video adjustments then the I-O is good. Thank you for giving me the idea of doing a comparison between the two. Comments like yours helps me with video content ideas!

    Hi! Thank you for this video! During minute 7 you mention choosing PAL50 for Europe. Is that if the original 8mm is PAL? The tapes I’m wanting to digitize are PAL,and I’m in the U.S. now and want to watch the content on my TV here. In that case, do I choose PAL 50? Thank you!

    • @TheMediaNerdMT
      @TheMediaNerdMT  6 місяців тому +1

      You would need a pal player and then you’d be digitizing them in a pal format. To get them in a ntsc format you will need to convert them. I do have a video that shows how to convert pal to ntsc. Also if you do have a pal player and you do digitizing them there should be a software program that can convert pal to ntsc. Hope this helps.
