Awesome! I can't compare your experience, but glad to see you going again. Have a friend that used dance to learn to walk after her amputation, I always found that cool; she absolutely wanted to walk without any sign that one leg was a prosthetic - it worked, I had no idea for the first couple months of meeting her.

My grandma had a prosthetic leg and I took her to all her appointments for her leg. It's so cool to watch and then adjusting it and they filled in the leg to look like a real leg. That was almost 30 yrs ago. It looks neat how somethings have changed. Congrats on your new leg.

as an FYI--i know you didnt intend it like this but a prosthetic leg is a "real leg" (: think of it like glasses or using certain types of utensils instead of others for comfort reasons. someone using a spork is still "really eating" even if the method/tool is different. its so cool u got to see that type of process in person, its so intimate and technical at the same time! glad u had that experience. i think ppl would understand us (mobility tool users) a lot better if they saw the level of care+involvement crafting these tools needs

I'm sorry I said the wrong thing. Her and her doctor always called it her prosthetics leg. That's why I called it that. I would never want to say something hurtful.

@@glendacarey2718 no worries, you didn't know ☺️ moving away from terms that imply a value judgement is a pretty recent development in the language around disability--a really common alternative is "organic" and "non-organic", so on. thank u for being receptive!

I'm so happy for you. My late brother lost his left leg above the knee in a hunting accident. He tried to wear a prosthetic leg and was able to for a while but he had fallen off the porch and damaged the nub and had to have another surgery and after that he was never able to wear the prosthetic leg again and lived until he died 3 years ago on crutches and a power chair. I wish he had been able to have his mobility back but the pain was just too much for him. Congratulations on your progress and I hope you continue to do well.

I am definitely not an amputee and can not even imagine what that journey would be like, but I really needed to see this video right now.
Yesterday I had my third major foot surgery that will keep me off my feet for 6 weeks AGAIN (this will make 18 weeks total on crutches😖) . I had been in PT for 6 months after my second procedure and finally started to regain strength, but still walked with a limp. That’s when we got the news that one of my 6 surgical fractures wouldn’t heal and we would have to repeat the procedure again. It is so refreshing to see you walking again. It gives me hope that I will be there soon!

If you have followed from the get go, she didn't even need to amputate her leg, then sued the doctor and hospital that did the amputation. She is now going to sue again for this "botched" surgery with nerve pains that cannot be disproved...just living off the settlements. I used to be a huge fan, but over time, I have seen her intentions. Her husband saw it too and probably why he bailed.

Oh, jo I do hope this is something that is the marker on your path of well deserved good things. Having PTSD from hospital trauma and actually writing this to you from a hospital bed right now- I couldn’t watch your video because, though I am not an amputee, I have screwed up nerves. Badly screwed up. I’ve had surgeries leading to infections leading to I think similar outcomes but I don’t know for sure, of course, because seeing or listening to that would have triggered me so badly and I can’t afford to be doing that right now. Anyway, what I mean to say is that I so hope that after this awful thing you endured, you totally deserve a wonderful recovery. I hope it exceeds expectations for you. You are a strong, beautiful, courageous, amazing woman and it’s a privilege to witness any part of your story. Thank you for being so committed to yourself and what’s real and the challenges that we overcome everyday that make it a bit better.

Nerve pain is no joke! And its so hard to explain to someone who hasn't dealt with it before. I went YEARS without feeling much on my right side...ended up having surgery near the end of 2022... I'm just now feeling anything in my right leg and it's EXTREMELY PAINFUL... Sometimes knocks me on my butt.
Great piece of advice on "it's important to start trying to walk again and work through the some of that pain" some days it's the HARDEST part. But VERY beneficial ❤❤

I went through the refiguring out my entire body for a couple of days after a stroke. I can't imagine not being my full-time job at that intensity
Jo, just know that you are badass and you got this!
I still want to see you vent in videos because not a straight line not an easy path and not any gain without a lot of work.

New sockets always introduce new pressure points, and it takes time for the nerves to “adjust”.
Hang in there Jo!, and good luck with the new socket!
