I cant imagine how stronger a prime Grischuk would be if he took things more seriously. A World Championship between him and Carlsen would have been pretty epic
Grischuk is a genius but he doesnt take chess seriously, even more now that he is in the end of his carreer .Even so, look at his results... just amazing.
It's incredible how the others are not into such long discussions, whereas these two talk for minutes. They definitely love the game. Also note that Grischuk thanks for the game at the end of the video. Great player!
Am a big Magnus fan. But it's great to see Grischuk having a great tournament so far. One of my favorite chess players. And one of the coolest guys in chess.
That race of pawns that had both rooks tied up and Grischuk's king racing to help out was brilliant (as well as how Carlsen managed to swoop his rook around the back of Grischuk's pawn on his end without losing his position at the other end). It is amazing that Grischuk managed to resolve that pickle and come out winning by one pawn to manage for the tie
Wtf are you talking about? Rook and 3 vs Rook and 2 on the kingside is a basic draw. And he was pressing earlier with the bishop pair. Also, I am not as rude as I sound
@@ShadowK0ng Grischuk missed a key move. Check minute 2.35 of this video. Fantastic coverage of a great game. Chessbase India is on fire!! Thanks so much for all of the awesome content. Wishing you the best as the channel keeps growing!
what an intense position for Grischuk to stay calm in. Magnus threatening promotion of two pawns and grischuk's tactical brilliance to come out of it like that.
This was a really interesting game. The imbalance was beautiful. Magnus was on the ropes but he managed to get a lot of counterplay with his bishop and queen side pawns.
Sasha really is some player. As has been said; on his day, probably the measure of any player in history. There is a video of him adopting GM Aman Hambleton somewhere that blew my mind. Good dry sense of humour too. Tip top player and one of my fantasy dinner party guests for sure!
No, it isn't a blunder! Well, if bishop to f6, then rook to d8 check. If bishop takes rook on d8, then c7 pawn takes bishop on d8 and at the same time will get promoted to queen and Black king will be in check again. The rest is easy - white is a pawn up and has a queen against a black rook. If the other way around, like if the bishop doesn't take rook on d8, then black king being in check, will have to move to h7. Then, c7 pawn promotes to queen on c8 and then, if black rook takes queen on c8, then white rook on d8 takes black rook on c8. Again, white will be a pawn up and will have a rook against a bishop. So, clearly, white would have been at an advantage in either of the scenarios. That's why it was necessary for Magnus to sacrifice the bishop in order to capture the c7 pawn!
Forgive my ignorance, but may someone explain who won and how? I didn’t really see a checkmate nor did it seem like a stalemate… although I know I am missing something.
@@aidanwogan3202 Because white's king has no hiding place from the checks of the black rook. The only place to hide is in front of the doubled pawns and that position will always be blocked by the black king.
On 2:32 Rc8 seems to be an inaccuracy. Grischuk could play Bxd6 and after Bxd6 play e5, and after Bf8 push f4 and white is already better. A shame he didn't spot this.
That would have lost for black because white would simply sac his rook for the queen and once the black rook takes back, white promotes the b-pawn to a new queen.
Forgive my ignorance, but Grischuk initiating the handshake means a draw here? Is it just understood that certain pieces left on the board mean inevitable draw?
There is no way that the pawn can go passed the king, it will end in repetitive checking and if king moves towards Magnus rok he will lose second pawn.. basically it’s draw. Too many combinations to explain here! Clear as mud? 👍
I'm convinced that they are speaking some sort of mute language at the end there only GMs understand because we can hear someone cough two buildings over, but can't hear their conversation when cameras and mics are pointed directly at them?!

Grischuk is one of a kind both as a player and as a humanbeing. I hope to see him in the future tournaments aswell.
Only a player of the highest calibre can hold this kind of game after exchange down. Wow
Indeed most players would be lost after that, but he created so much counter play driving his pawns down the board. What a great game!

Hello! Does anyone know what kind of chess set they're playing? I really like the chess pieces.
9:22 why magnus sacrificed a bishop when he could have moved it to f6, is it a blunder ??? Please explain
