Without ebikes some people just wouldn't get out cycling. Surely the more cyclists out there riding has to be a good thing. More cyclists may encourage the government to invest in a better infrastructure for us all.
I wouldn't still be riding if it wasn't for my ebike , I love it and it allows me to keep up with my younger fitter friends. In fact they were all for me getting one. I put off getting one for a couple of years and persisted with a normal bike , big mistake. If you think you need an ebike get it , don't put it off.
The more people on the trails, the more crowded. The more crowded, the more problems. Leave mountain biking to mountain bikers, it' s not a sport for everyone.
I'm a "real" cyclist just like the close-minded few who have commented "NO" to ebikes and motos. But like you Juliet, I say YES. Ebikes are fun! Motos are fun too. However, (being a "Real" cyclist) I'll keep pedaling old-school until my knees and back can't deal with it anymore. After that, I'll be ePedaling with a big eGrin on my face. Don't let the "cranks" get you down! To the cranks; get over yourself!
I just reached that line. Had an ebike conversion before (Lots of fun) nowadays I have to. Still having fun and getting exorcise even though my metal hip has gotten to loose to walk without a cain I can peddle the ebike, usually comfortably.
I always wondered what your thoughts on e-bikes would be. Glad to see your support for them. I have been able to ride again after years of not. I lost about half of my lung function in my 20s and had to give up running and biking. Thanks to my ebike I can ride again.
Great Britain truly is great. All your rides have made me want to go there for years and I was finally able to do so. So far I spent two months in Scotland and a day in Wales. It's all so beautiful for cycling. The landscape is just breathtaking. I probably want to come back with a gravelbike at some point to go a bit further than I can on my XC hardtail.

Like you say, it's just a bike with FUN, and I love the versatility. I get received with smiles and friendly hello's while riding parks and such, and it's rare that I get the well known "You're cheating!". Most of those are in good humor anyways, but if someone is serious, my reply is a quick "Not racing!". Out of our five bikes, this one can be the easiest or the hardest to ride, by choice, and the only way I could match the workout is to tow an old car tire behind me on the regular bikes. I have a e gravel bike and love it, it's the Mahle x35 system, which isn't ultra powerful but assists me greatly around the wolds of East Yorkshire. I wouldn't be able to enjoy a large amount of riding without it due to knee and hip problems. You just have to abide by charging and battery storage conditions to avoid problems. A big investment for me but worth every penny.

I have the same Marin alpine E2 just put over 1000 miles on it , that bike takes a beating with no problems, put icetec rotors and metallic pads , it goes around switch backs great just lean it over and it goes around the turn by its self , climbs like a mountain goat , rated a top bike in mountain bike action, of course changed the grips and seat , for $6,000 dollars it’s a top bike on the market, I got the first one in Northern California last year and love it

I just put a WTB HTZ mullet wheelset on my eBike and looking forward to many miles of smiles with them on board. I like that you get it that even experienced long time bikers can get a smile on their face riding an eBike if they would just pull their chamois's out of their bums.

You really make this look fun and I'm sure it is. But most of us don't have sponsors who give us free e-bikes, so a regular bike is still preferable. However, I put a conversion kit on my wife's bike that only adds a few pounds and it helps her keep up with me on longer rides. A win win for both of us.

I don't know which camera you're using, but I have a GoPro 360 Max and for some reason when I record road cycling it comes out clear on UA-cam, but when I record MTB riding it comes like this video also, kind of blurry, and I don't understand why! 🙂

I love the video of the Marin E-bike, being an old fart (73yrs young), an e-Bike is just over the horizon for me, so will need to decide road or gravel., however, if a fit girl like you can wax lyrical about such a machine, then it just adds to how good they've become which is reflected in their burgeoning sales; they appear to be helping more folk getting out there on two wheels spinning pedals. Ride safely you and keep the cold water swimming up!
Nice bike. You definitely don’t get the same workout on an E bike and anybody who says different is lying. I have both. But it is fun to go out and get a quick spin or explore new trails.
Agreed. I argue this point all the time with my friend that’s convinced ‘you just get to ride further and longer.’ Nope! It’s much more of a workout pedalling a normal bike up a hill and even if the ride is shorter, it’s that much more intense that it makes up for it. Still, FUN!!!
E bikes are great. I'm thinking of getting one to drag a trailer but if road bike makers put sensible gears on their products, instead of pro racer gears, a lot of people would find cycling much more manageable without having to shell out an extra 2k so they can turn the pedals. I have a gravel bike. Not because I ride gravel but because it has a 46-30, 11-34 set up and I'd be happier still if was 11-40.
Not everyone wants a workout when their cycling, I want to be goto my destination and not be tired, an ebike does just that, the added small workout is great benefit not a must though
My partner has two knee replacements and an ebike is the only way she can really go anywhere on a a trail that has hills. Im totally old fashioned with a 98 Specialized with no suspension. We get a lot of strange looks and comments.
There is really not a whole lot of difference between a regular bike and an e-bike as long as you're peddling the ebike for a little bit for exercise the difference is you cover more ground and you don't have to get off of it when you go up a big hill and push it up the hill. I'm 62 I have an electric dirt bike that I ride in the Arizona desert these trails are quite intense and this is great exercise and a lot of fun
Went mtb riding with my buddy yesterday. He was on his regular mtb I sold him years ago (Spec Stumpjumper). I was on my emtb (Intense Tazer MX Pro). We rode about 5 minutes and I literally had to wait for him for probably 3 minutes. He went back to my house (7 minutes away) and picked up my Trek Rail to ride. Riding single track in the woods, amish bikes are a joke. Can't even begin to keep up. If you ride mtb's in the woods or off road, emtbs are the only way to go. There is no comparison.
I just don't know if I could part with the fun of having my lungs feel like they're about to explode trying to climb a hill I can barely walk up without a hiking staff.
If I were interested in mountain biking, this is how I would use an eBike. It's only the same as a button lift in skiing. Why would you want to waste time getting to the top again?
I ride to stay in shape, that's the main reason I won't be getting an e-bike. For commuting, they're great. I'm just wondering how long it'll be before states make you register them like a motorcycle and make you pay property tax on them too. On linear trails, if you ride an e-bike, go SLOW around people. I've already heard some grumbling about banning e-bikes from linear trails. As long as everyone rides responsibly, they'll never get banned.
I love my electric mountain bike. As an out of shape middle aged novice that hadn’t ridden in years, for the small price of $7,500 I get to wreak havoc on my local trails leaving the less financially endowed in my dust. E-Bikes are the “Sam Colt” of the modern era!

Nothing wrong with people cycling simply for fun. I did it. Hated riding my pushbike because of the steep hills in my area that made me get off and have to push my bike. Now I've actually switched back to my pushbike after gradually building up stamina on my ebike.
