Hey Phil! I'm your last opponent. I'm relatively new to Legacy (transitioned to the format last October after playing some Pauper post a 5 year MTG hiatus), so thank you for pointing out these little moments when I was not playing optimally, this really helps!
Honestly, legacy is the format I've found the most people willing to walk me through my bad decisions. It's a welcome change of pace from my usual highly toxic edh group
I'd recommend using your wastelands more aggressively. I recommend doing it in the ops upkeep so they have to stifle or something on their turn if they run those cards
28:10 if you attack with fury before doing anything else, if they don't block you get a free 6 damage in, and if they block, Fury is the 4th card type for delirium!
33:10 is a perfect example of what can happen when you have to narrate your plays for youtube Phil said he can play around a daze when he has the exact contents of the opponents hand on his screen
Start of round 4 is hilarious. Honestly feel like the best thing Zoyoua did was get pitched to Fury (there was that discard on round 1, but like, meh). Really well-played list, there was some luck involved but you absolutely earned that 5-0!
Great League. Naturally it was part of the request but there are a few cards that could possibly slot in over Zoyowa (and still be pitchable to Fury) while possibly helping the descend mechanic. The first thoughts that come to my mind are Inti or Bloodtithe Harvester, though Inti does have the issue of not working well with alternative costs (evoke / cycling) while bloodtithe needs an additional mana to get going.
Sweet deck! I think this shell has potential, especially if you are willing to upgrade the cute cards. I think Stalactite Stalker has been a bit outclassed by Nethergoyf, especially when we already want to enable delirium for DRC. I agree maintaining red card count is a priority, and there are a lot of strong red 2-drops to pick from. FOMO, Bloodtithe Harvester, Kroxa, Inti... Not sure which is best.
24:20 There's a perfectly reasonable Snap in the opponent's GY, allowing for a slightly bigger board at virtually no cost unless I'm missing something? It also changes the theoretical clock from 3 turns to 2 (6 to 10 damage per turn into 17hp)
I love Zoyowa! At least in a casual EDH setting. I love mini game cards, Zoyowa, Braids Arisen Nightmare, The Palantir, Goblin Game. Little goblin warlock also actually benefits from a terrible budget mana base, Evolving Wilds and all those bad land cycling creatures get a little extra value and add game actions to the stack with that silly little goblin. Its fun.
It seems like getting any 2/2+ red creature for two mana would work for this deck and do what Zoyowa does, since its abilities just don't come up often enough to matter. You had Fear of Missing Out as an option earlier and I think that works better if you're not constrained to building around Zoyowa - feeding delirium *and* descend while having an ability which would come up regularly. As far as putting in some other weird creature you wouldn't normally see to fill that slot, maybe something like Inti Senescal of the Sun would work.
Very cool deck. It looks very very consistant in what its doing. Like its just an endless barage of good threats, suprisingly stable mana due to the 8 cyclers and decent anti creature options. Against very fast combo.... it probably has issues :D But again. Not only that 34 cards are castable off one or two mana (countercycle as cast)... Its also some damn good threats. 3 DRC great threats, 4 stalkers, great threats, 4 zoyova suprsingly decent, 2 animate dead and 4 reanimate that are turn 2 threats some ammount of the times. its like 17ish 1-2 cmc threats. followed by barrowgoyfs if need be and occasional fury scam.... "Fair" force of will is running into issues 2 for 1ing against that. And its tough to beat with other fair plans. You cant run so much removal and most of the creatures are either evasive or have other tech to win combat (deathtouch, double strike). And i do think the evasion is actually doing a lot of work. Nethergoyf vs stalactite might look better, but goyf can be fogged by 1 creature. The menece did matter. the removal on a stick also did matter. Goyf has more power, but points of power dont seem to be an issue with the deck at all. Beating that with a fair plan looks REALLY hard. Beating that with control or sth like beans looks really hard due to the consistency of threats in the first turns. Would love to see more of that.
If you have a visual bug and like you were complaining about at the start and are running Windows 11, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Windows Key + B to reset the graphics drivers
Good to see that the Zoyowa felt decent. I wonder if a non-legendary 2 drop like Bloodtithe Harvester or Undead Sprinter could fill the role of aggro+value+Fury pitch. Obviously, you mentioned FOMO, which is probably the best. Just thinking if the multicolor element might matter for something like Snuff Out or another black pitch card for a different build of this shell.
seeing as Zoyowa was primarily good because of its mana cost, i wonder if something like Juri, Bloodtithe Harvester, and/or Dreadhorde Butcher could be interesting things to try in that slot
If I was to play the deck, I'd probably opt for a Kroxa or 2 (And then opt for a second Swamp in the mana base to support it). With a second Swamp, I would then also feel comfortable running some number Blood Moon based on the meta.
Im surprised you didn't go jund for wasteland+loam and possibly even smallpox and liliana of the veil for this. However I'm still excited to see this deck.
I want to port this deck over to Timeless. For animate dead there is only persist available. Is it good enough with all that 1power thoughness? I also want to replace petals by ragavans and remove 2 furys and buy in two griefs. What do you think yall
It's a bad topdeck in the late game, and if you aren't expecting to end the game quickly, you might not actually be taking enough advantage of the temporary hole you create. I really like having high threat density vs control whenever possible.
When you can clear the way and end the game (i.e. combo/prison) thought seizing control is nice - but when you are more mid range you need every threat you can produce
1:06:04 legit curious: when is the break point for considering it good? If it’s a good hand T 55%, wouldn’t you generally say your mulligan to 6 is worse than 50% “good hand rate” so you’re decreasing your overall win %? Not sure what the heuristic is here ^_^
Generally speaking, I'm really looking for a "plan" in my opening hand. If I don't think my hand has a reasonable hand without getting lucky, I'm going to mulligan more often than not.
I’ve been seeing this trend more and more on MTGO, where opponents are shockingly holding back FOW when staring down game-winning plays on the stack. Pretty absurd.
I have a playset of Beta Lightning Bolts with red-on-black shadow signatures by Christopher Rush. For that reason and that reason only, I absolutely HATE a deck with 3 Lightning Bolts.
Have an edh deck of the little guy and honestly the choice part doesn't matter because yes you get what's best for your opponent but both options are bad unlike some other choice cards.
Why, oh why, do you spoil your own video of how well you do on the title of this video? Would you go to see a murder mystery that straight up tells you in the commercial that the butler is the murderer? You could say it's amazing, great, or some such, but don't say you went undefeated. It spoils all the suspense of how the games will go.

Happy to hear it was helpful, and welcome to the format!
Honestly, legacy is the format I've found the most people willing to walk me through my bad decisions. It's a welcome change of pace from my usual highly toxic edh group
@@skirk248 Really now. I've had the opposite experience. On the other hand, some edh tables do have ruder people as well

I was knee deep in philosophy UA-cam when this popped up and you started talking about choices, I just immediately went "Ah yes, Kierkegaard."
28:10 if you attack with fury before doing anything else, if they don't block you get a free 6 damage in, and if they block, Fury is the 4th card type for delirium!
Oh, that's good.
It felt like you were having so much fun in this video it was infectious..fun video..thanks as always phil 😊

Yup lol. People don't realize how much mental energy goes into the talking side of the equation. This sort of stuff happens all the time.

I love the start to R2G1.
Fury: I will hit you for 6 every turn!
Dreadnought: Bitch please.
16 sec refresh! My lucky day and perfect timing with lunch. Love the videos
Its been a bit, we were due for Phil's occasional 5-0 with a red deck with some absolute spice thrown in
Start of round 4 is hilarious. Honestly feel like the best thing Zoyoua did was get pitched to Fury (there was that discard on round 1, but like, meh).
Really well-played list, there was some luck involved but you absolutely earned that 5-0!
Really enjoyable one!

I would have never in a million years had the balls to mulligan the first hand of the last round, this channel always teaches me so much
Nice game Thraben U. I loved this deck.

1:11:26
Phil matches Zoyowa's energy down to the facial expression!
Lmao! "Ohh I found a quarter on the street" Love these games...it was almost like everyone agreed to fair magic
Sweet deck! I think this shell has potential, especially if you are willing to upgrade the cute cards.

FOMO is probably best for the shell. Especially since delirium is already a priority
49:37 Animate Dead on Broadside Bombardiers is lethal a turn earlier than you had it
That's true, as long as vial doesn't mess with what I'm doing.

Really fun deck & league. Thanks.
at 37:25, why sacrifice the staker?
Lifelink is instantaneous no? Or at least quicker than state based effects?
currently building a like slightly simular deck in standard. really love the stalaktite stalker and zoyowa
24:27 could Reanimate Snap then Reanimate Fatty for the extra threat. Small but probably worth it.
Yeah, I missed that. I'd have to rewatch to get a feel for if my life total mattered at all, but it's probably correct to do that.
Really fun league, this deck slaps. Would be really interested to see how it plays with a fear of missing out in place of the zoyowas.
Jasper flint has me think of outlaw goodstuff piles more now

Landstill, Stiflenought, Goblins... Are you sure you didn't join a Premodern league?
37:25, can anyone explain why he blocked with stalker? He forgot about lifelink I assume?
22:06 The 386 that runs MODO is having a bad day.
This is so great.
If you have a visual bug and like you were complaining about at the start and are running Windows 11, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Windows Key + B to reset the graphics drivers
This was an MTGO server-side issue, but thanks for the tip!

Wouldn't Faerie Macabre be a better graveyard hate card since it triggers descend when discarded?
Not in this metagame, where hating on Oops with Leyline is critical.

Dont play magic anymore just felt realy bored with the game but still tune in to watch you play
Did you consider molten collapse for the board?
I came here to say this.

Have you thought of a deck around the outlaw mechanic? Gives you good cards like opp agent, dauthi voidwalker, needlehead, etc
Idk if he has but I sure as hell have now
Obligatory algorithmic contribution
Bloodtithe Harvester replaces zoyowa and Your deck becomes godlike
My favourite part was when he boarded in Barrowgoyf and goyf'd all over them.
would replace zoyowa and unholy heat with molten colapse and some copies of emperor bones. this looks fun to try out
Emperor of Bones is a really good fit here!
Phil would i be crazy 🤪 to think a manamorphose and a swamp wraith could be cool in here
I don't know that those are better than other options like FOMO and Emperor of Bones.
This might be one of those sacred cow arguments for me...but why take out thoughtseize vs control? isn't it good to clear the way?
It's a bad topdeck in the late game, and if you aren't expecting to end the game quickly, you might not actually be taking enough advantage of the temporary hole you create. I really like having high threat density vs control whenever possible.
When you can clear the way and end the game (i.e. combo/prison) thought seizing control is nice - but when you are more mid range you need every threat you can produce
On top of what others have said, Brainstorm can also hide the important cards from Thoughtseize.
Gotta be honest round 3 I was routing for the Goblins
Thoughts on adding fable of the mirror breaker?
Reasonable, but I think I'd probably add FOMO or Emperor of Bones first.
