    Hi. Thanks for the video.
    I have a speed controller for a 4.25 hp, 130 VDC treadmill motor. I want a forward-reverse switch but don’t like the DPDT toggle switches.
    I was thinking of a rotating selector switch with left for reverse, up for off and right for forward.
    The switches I found are 2 NO 2 NC but I don’t know how to wire them. Can you help me with that?
    Also, I like your idea of 2 push button switches. But I don’t know what switch and relay can handle the 130 VDC and probably 15 amps.
    Can you help me figure this out, either with rotary switch or buttons?
    I appreciate your help.

    Hi. I have a question for an expert. I’m using a SCR and bridge rectifier for a variable speed controller on my 130 VDC treadmill motor. I’m using a DPDT switch for forward and reverse.
    I’d like different color indicator lights to come on depending on which direction it’s moving. But the dc lights I can find are 24 VDC and low amps. How can I hook these lights up to the power and voltage going to the DPDT switch?

    Hi, are the push button switches momentary? If so then the motor only runs while holding the button because there is no relay latching circuit. Therefore, the diod is only to shunt the back emf of the relay coil.

      No it's not.
      The reason the diode it there is to prevent the positive current flow from FORWARD switch to not let it energize the relay coil. Depressing the forward switch will power the motor only.
      On the other hand the diode will let positive current flow from the REVERSE switch to the relay coil AND supply power to the motor.
      This has NOTHNG to do with EMF. The only way that would be true is if the diode was in parallel with the relay coil, and it's not.

    So I built this and was having issues. I replaced each end of the motor with an LED to test if it’s working and it was. When FWD was pressed LED 1 lights up and REV lights LED 2 up. A thing to note is that when REV is pressed LED 1 flashes and then LED 2 turns on. When motor is attached and REV is pressed only LED 1 turns on

      The voltage of the relay will have to be the same as the motor. Unless you have a Buck Converter or a Voltage Regulator to step down or up the voltage to match the operating voltage of the relay.

      If you have Momentary (non-self-locking) buttons then you don't need a stop button since when you release the button it stops.

      Any Double Pole Double Throw relay that has the same rating as the motor will work. Same goes for the switches, since the full current driving the motor is going threw the switches also.

      Earth Bondhon hi, this circuit works only for very low voltage DC current. Switches and relay contacts beyond 30 VDC will arc while opening and destroy the contacts. Another word, the contacts act as electrode in a stick welder. AC power to the power supply of the load must turn off before any switching of motor direction takes place.
      Also reversing a permanent magnet motor is very tricky, as the motor turns into generator and the current almost doubles before the motor actually changes direction. The doubling of the current lasts a few seconds and will damage the insulation of the winding wire inside the motor.
      To make a properly functioning reversing high voltage DC switching circuit, you must utilize two high current (30 amp) DPDT relays, one high power SP relay and three timers a SPDT switch and finally a high amp bridge rectifier. The SP relay cuts the AC power via a timer and then the direction switching relays make their transition and a few seconds later the AC power is turned on to the circuit.

      So giving you part number would not be wise since not knowing what motor and switches you would be using , can lead to catastrophic failure.

      It depends on what motor you are using. This video only shows the concept not the any real life application. To find what relay it will need in actual usage you will need to know what motor is going to be used. The switches will also need to be rated to handle the current. Using this example in this video that is.

      Don't use this schematic as advised for high current switching. All current flows true control buttons. Right schematic uses two relays.

      You can't just ask for a type (DPDT) of relay, you will need to know what motor will be used. Relay voltage needs to match the voltage of motor and that it can handle the current. The switches need to match also. It is better to use two Single Pole Double Throw relays with two buttons or an On-Off-On switch.
