I saw that you and Gavin both made videos about Narnia and i was like YES!!! Narnia is one of my favourite series of all time, i grew up reading it often (except for the 7th because i did not want it to end) and a couple of years ago i got a hardcover full colour set of the series and i read the whole thing in a couple of months🥰😅 This makes me want to reread them😊 Note: I will say, reading these as a kid and not knowing or noticing the religious allegory was definitley the best way to experience it and i think that may be one of the reasons why it is such a nostalgic series to me.
I totally agree with your criticism of The Horse and His Boy, but I think it is my second favourite of the series. I just find it so amusing (especially Bree and his pride) and I also think Aravis (was that her name?) is the strongest female character in the Narnia-world. Plus I actually like the journey-trope. I am definitely not ignorant of the amount of bigotry this book portrays. But I choose to remember it was a different time and be glad that I know better. I do however don't blame those who won't make excuses. We all read the same book differently afterall 🙂
Sick of people doing the social justice thing and accusing the books of "bigotry". The books did deal with bigotry since slavery existed - but that doesn't make the books bigoted.
This was absolutely fascinating to watch! I had no idea about all the religious connotations in the series: I read it aaaages ago and barely remember anything so this was very eye opening
I love your videos so much…❤❤ you are literally my fav youtuber and I am obsessed watching every single video. I am waiting for a 24 hour readathon lol😊
Did anyone else see the lightning behind Mel while she’s ranting about the absolute trash that’s called The horse and his boy? Mel is manifesting that energy yassss ❤
🧙♀ I find it funny that my 2 favorite books in the series ended up as the best and worst in your ranking. My least favorites are The Silver Chair & The Last Battle. I think I've only read them once where the others I have read multiple times.
Omg!!! I’ve been wanting to read this series for a long now…I bought the book with all the books in it a while back and now I want to read them even more 😂😂😂 thanks for doing this video ❤️❤️
I was nervous to watch this video, but I'm glad I followed my curiosity and did it anyway! I really appreciated and agreed with your opinions. This series means a lot to me because it was one of the only things I could turn to over 20 years to escape from consistent abuse; it was a huge source of comfort and I remember and think of it very fondly (in spite of its very unfortunate and very blatant flaws). But I also like the journey trope, so 😂🧙♀
Thank yew for doing this 😂 I can’t add another series to my tbr 😂 I only read the magicians nephew and the lion the witch and the wardrobe when I was little and I just remember I read them but no specifics whatsoever 😂😂🧙♀
i’d also forgotten most details about the lion the witch and the wardrobe, but it ended up being kind of a vibe😂 here’s to no more series added to the tbr🍾
You should really watch Dominic Nobel's playlist for the narnia series on his Lost in adaptation series where he compares the books to to the movies and then he actually went ahead and did the next book that get a movie that playlist is hysterical 😉
Whoo chile! Girl, I spent 1st - 8th grade in a Catholic school and I feel like you condensed my entire education there into an hour 😂😂😂 And as someone who is also part Lebanese, I gotta say Clive can eat it lmao! Thank you for the brilliant and super fun video, you really took the bullet that the rest of us dodged 🧙🏽♀️
OMG THAAAAAT was the secret books you were reading? Now Livs reference to the movie makes sense. Damn how did I not think of this, wenn I knew the cover of the first one was green. I recently read them for the first time too and I thought they were literally so bad.
🧙♀I don't have much to say about the Narnia series - I think I abandoned it in the middle of the Caspian story, I just wasn't vibing with the religious undertones of it all, BUT! Mel, I really love your analyses of the books! At school, I was always praised by my language teacher for writing good essays, but I've found my old notebooks recently, and my "eSsAyS" were either just plain retelling of the story or writing exactly what I knew the teacher would appreciate so that I would get a good grade. So I never really learned how to express my thoughts about literature beyond basic "I liked it" and "I didn't like it". Thank you for showing what an actual proper review of a book is!
I can’t tell you how many times I had to rewind because I couldn’t believe how goofy these books sounded. And I love how you address so much wrong doings in these books. 🧙♀️
It honestly kinda fits that I was attracted to Daddy Aslan growing up watching the movies, just like we were all attracted to Spirit the Stallion. Im attracted to the many depictions of Jesus. Idk ya'll. I needa shed my lustful skin.
I love much about Narnia, except the way the series ended, - and, Aslan. I don't like Aslan. The books would be a lot better without him hogging all the limelight.
“It’s my time now and I get to critique it” powerful, powerful words

So excited to watch two Narnia vlogs . Yours and Gavin 💜💜
hope you enjoy gav’s furry beginnings🥹
I LOVE THE HOUR LONG VIDEOS MEL!!💗

I love that bit of you and Gavin facetiming while reading 🥺❤️ it's so cute and I want everyone to have moments like this with their friends!
loved this vlog so much!

see, this is why i love reading and seeing people’s rankings! how we consume content differently is always amazing❤️🔥🕺

oooh I might rewatch the Narnia movies soon!
the movies?! chef’s kiss🕺❤️🔥
The goodbye at the end was the hardest thing about Dawn Treader.

Not Mel (rightfully so) stomping on my childhood. The Chronicles of Narnia was what got me into reading as an elementary/middle schooler.
I watched The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe movie, but I never read any of The Chronicles of Narnia books, so this is interesting.
Silver chair and and the magicians nephew are favorites
yesss😍❤️🔥
Love a Mel rant video! 😄

aslan made diggory doom his mother to death in order to not break a promise, before he finally decided to save her
Idk as a children's series it just sounds like it would raise more questions than answer them for kids learning about the religion.

glad to know i’m not the only one who thought they didn’t stand the test of time😭

That was such a trip 😂 daddy aslan 🔪 🦁 ☠️

🧙♀️ I’ve only seen the movies. As a black woman I don’t think I want to read the series! 📚 I’ll pass!😂

I need to rewatch the 2002 movie of Spirit. I mean I’m pretty sure it’s the first one of Spirit the Stallion
aslan does absolutely nothing to end calormen slavery, or punish the actual slavers. he just mauls a little girl for running away from forced marriage
