The SPAS12 is definitely iconic and a staple of 80s-90s action films. Would love to own one as a kid who grew up with JP. My personal favorite has to be the sawn off Winchester 87 from T2. It’s become so iconic that it shows up in other films, shows and games as an Easter egg/reference to T2. These include the Brenden Frazier Mummy series, Hot Fuzz, Supernatural, MW2 among others.

My list: #3 Lever action 1887, #2 Ithaca 37, #1 Double barrel (Both long barrels, Stage coach version, and sawed off)
The fact the double barrel didn't make this list makes me question if this was more about what you had owned/access to versus iconic weapons or maybe this was a sales pitch thingy. The double barrel was used in many westerns (Tombstone or Unforgiven), Spy movies (Bourne Identity), Comedy (Lighting Jack), Horror movies (Evil Dead trilogy), Action tv shows (Miami Vice), and action movies (MAD MAX). Hell, The Ithaca 37 and Double barrel is cemented in movie pop culture meme one liners legends! We all know what movies you are talking about when the line "This is my Boomstick!" or "I like to keep this handy, for close encounters" when those two shotguns are brought up.

    • @3p1cand3rs0n

"Double Barrel" is not a make or model of shotgun. You have to specify which specific double barrel you're referring to. Like the Winchester Model 101, for instance.

I’ve owned a spas for many years. My best memories are shooting one handed skeet with it. The hook at the end is not only a carry handle. If you give it a 90deg twist, there’s a detent for that. You have great support for shooting one armed. Range masters always appreciated that. Especially when I let them try it. Thus the heavy spring system. Very little recoil. Great for three gun. I also have a heavy.modded Benelli M3. Once again great for 3 gun wher 0:03 e they will give you a dud to mess you up. Quicker recovery.

I've commented somewhere before, but I actually think the SPAS would have been a good choice had Jurassic Park been real. It would allow a very wide range of ammo for all the various sizes / types of dino. Including some that would really pack a punch for the bigger / armoured critters. And the pump function would also allow it to run whatever funky specialised anti Dino ammo was developed. All while looking cool which as we know is the most important thing of all.

A lot of double barrel shotguns were used in westerns films. In Tombstone Doc Holiday used a double in the OK Coral shootout and Wyatt Earp killed Curly Bill. In Unforgiven William Munny killed the bar keep at close range for displaying his friends dead body. In Appaloosa Viggo Mortensen runs a double barrel through the whole movie and he blows away a lot of dudes.

No argument with the list but a double barreled 12 gauge has to be up there as well because it’s in all the westerns. Obviously, too hard to nail down specific manufacturer but as a category, it’s gotta be close to the top.

Got woke up tonight with a bad sore throat. Waiting for it to calm down I fired up the hard drive, went to Westerns and watched Big Jake (then Unforgiven), one of the greatest collections of cowboy character actors ever. Shotgun fun:
John Wayne to Maureen O’Hara, in their third collaboration since 1947, “Did you bring my Greeners?” When we see Sam Sharpnose break it open it has hammers. Near the end, Wayne, while confronting Richard Boone is also holding a hammered shotgun.
For Motorcycle fans: hard to tell what kind of 2-stroke motorcycle Chris Mitchum is riding (from the paint job I’m guessing it was supposed to be an Indian) but, from the way they tried to hide the forks with those scabbards my first choice would be Montessa. Those iconic forks that went below the axle, you know. Second choice, Bultaco.
Random: William Muny, holding a double, “All right, come on out. Any sumbitch takes a shot at me, I’m not only going to kill him, but I’m going to kill his wife, all his friends and burn his damn house down!” You’re right, there’s no way I could remember all that. I had to look up the quote on IMDB. What else is there to do when it’s after 3am and you’re praying your sore throat calms down enough to go back to sleep? 🤠

Danny Glover used a pistol grip 870 as a crooked cop accompanying another with a High Standard K-1200 riot shotgun when they went after Harrison Ford in the end of “Witness” in 1984.
High Standard K1200 is another iconic movie gun. One of the earliest pump shotgun movies is “The Getaway” with Steve McQueen in 1972. He chews up police cars and blows away pursing bad guys.
Both good movies. Got an 870 Police Magnum myself next to my bed

@@GTFBITKI have one, unfortunately it's a Chinese copy but it's faithful to the original... It's going to need some work because it is basically a single shot, and that's because the design was originally meant for paper shells and when you use plastic shells when they've been fired they're too long to reliably clear when you manipulate the lever to feed the next round.

The newer Remingtons post Freedom Group are actually pretty nice once again. I have a 1998 (Pre Freedom Group) Remington 11-87 Premier 12 gauge with the 28" vent rib barrel.....very nice shotgun and has never jammed once since I bought it in 1998 after thousands of rounds mostly shooting trap with it. I bought a Remington 870 Home Defense 12 gauge #R25559 in the Spring of 2023 last year (Post Freedom Group). It's very good quality as well. I did install a Wilson Combat extended safety and a Volquartsen hardened tool steel enhanced extractor to it but I certainly didn't "need to". I also had it custom engraved with my Unit and Trademark logo on the receiver. All in all it's pretty badass for a newer one. I also have a Mossberg 590A1 parkerized with ghost ring sights 12 gauge I bought new in 1994. I have a Mossberg 590 12 gauge Shockwave. Also have a 60 - 70+ year old 12 gauge Stevens 311A stage coach double barrel with 18 1/2" barrels. I have my old H&R single shot 28" 12 gauge from when I was a kid (first shotgun age 10). My most tactical shotgun is my Benelli M3 select fire semi-auto-pump 12 gauge with the pistol grip stock. It's extremely rare and hard to find in this configuration. I bought that one in 2008.

Jack Elam, in Rio Lobo with John Wayne, yells something like, “Get the Greeners!” He meant hammerless double barreled shotguns. I’d be willing to bet the hammer-less double was the most used shotgun in cowboy movies, easily more than all these added together. Remember, you have to go back to the 40’s when every stagecoach had one. Could have been on the list, at least as #3, and would have been a fun surprise start to the video at #1.

I have a old Stevens 311A 12 gauge double barrel stagecoach shotgun. It belonged to a elderly man who bought it new who then sold it to my now deceased as well elderly Dad back in around 1990. This shotgun is no newer than 1950s vintage at the latest and likely older than that. I'm the third owner and this shotgun was made from about 1888 - 1987 or so. Two elderly men owned it a good chunk of both of their lives. The guy who sold it used to Dad would have been in his 80s in 1990. Dad would be 83 had we not lost him in 2022 at age 81.

**the Mossberg 590 military model would be one that I consider on this list. It has the heat shield and the bayonet mount.
**The striker 12 gauge should also be on this list.
**Of course I think the Remington V3 tac 13 is one that is very underutilized.
**Of course the Kel-Tec KSG 25 is another one.
**Of course a scene stealing shotgun that what's in the movie Big John which starred Jimmy Dean the singer who sang the song Big John which the movie followed, had a four barreled sawed-off 12-gauge he named gator,
**Movie also had Jack Elam in it, which he commented in the beginning of the movie I thought they made that gun illegal?
**to which Jimmy Dean said, "I always thought it was"

Who can forget the spastic 12? I was unfortunate enough (at the time) to own one. surprised the Winchester 97 didn't score here.

    Arnold’s 1887 Winchester from Terminator 2
Kyles Reese’s Ithaca 37 in the first Terminator, the only gun that could stop evil Arnold, temporarily
Remington 11-87 from No Country for Old Men
There are hundreds more, but those and the SPAS are the first ones I think of

Love the 1187 in no country for old men. Definitely not many appearances for the 1187 tho. Just really cool stuff in that particular movie.

I went to the rifle range Wednesday afternoon. I’m off from the police dept in the summer and the only people there were myself and two instructors. One instructor is retired ICE, the other is a sheet metal union delicate he actually knew my father who was a member. My father is a generation older than he is. He was telling us that a week earlier a woman brought in a. SPAZ. Her husband ga s it to her for home defense. Past two years we needed a license for a semi auto rifle or we had to update our handgun license to buy semi auto rifle. I said if he has his rifle license or update he shoulda got her like a Ruger PC or mossberg 20 gauge. She literally dragged the case into the range because she couldn’t lift it. I said my philosophy if you can’t use your home defense weapon the guy will show you how to use it
