I called and spoke to an engineer at PTR last week regarding my PTR 9kt and recommended locking piece. I was advised, if running a standard baffled non-flow-through suppressor, they recommend an 80 degree locking piece. If using a flow-through low pressure suppressor, like my B&T TP9 suppressor with a trilug adapter, they recommend a 90 degree locking piece. Figured I’d share, there’s a lot lore on the intertubes. Also, shout out for the transparent and very technical convo I could have with them. Not a lot of manufacturers that will do that.
Nope, I put the 80 degree block in which slows the bolt down to prevent the trunion from bulging and it runs great. I have a binary in it as well and it stays on target well with very little jumping.
@@robjmh I had to send in my bolt to PTR to fit a 80 Degree H&K Locking piece I had as the channel was too small. After that it runs great suppressed but only suppressed.. Unsuppressed (without a suppressor attached) it will not work . Shoots even more softer with subs and supers now.. So I guess I better keep it supressed.
@@Steven-gv1ke 1. you can find Turkish clones of MP5/MP5k’s made on H&K tooling for for around $1,000. I payed $899 for mine plus $70 folding brace right before they were stopped being sold due to the ATF nonsense. 2. Once you shoot a roller delayed PCC, there is no comparison. You won’t even want to shoot straight blowback much PCCs anymore. They are popular at that higher price for a reason. Extremely fun guns to shoot. Extremely soft shooting, cold hammer forged barrels, better iron sights, double stack double feed magazines that are better for longevity, more accurate as well. The guns are built to be machine guns as well which is much more abusive than semi auto. 3. There is a reason why H&K, who has wanted to stop making the MP5 for decades at this point, still makes them. The military and police still want them, it’s still considered the premier submachine gun - even with the inferior ergos.
_Finally!_ I have been waiting for a PTR MP5 review from one of my preferred channels for thee longest time. You did not disappoint, brother. Suffice to say, it is the last of our 80's Action Movies acquisitions (Gibson, Glover, Willis, Norris, etc.). This whole endeavor started with Beretta at the behest of my wife. The only hinderance is her indecision. She _still_ cannot decide between the 9CT or the 9KT model. I know, I know - champagne problems... [shrug] Nevertheless, this was precisely what I was expecting from you as a presenter. Excellent review as always, Mike. Stay classy my friend.
Been running my PTR clone of an MP5K for years now. Wonderful gun. I use a streamlight at 90 degrees with a tape switch... Every so often have a fte with the bolt catching the shell lip (shell flipped). Cleared by dropping the magazine and racking the slide. No problem with korean or HK mags. Have about 2500 rounds and only occasional cleaning.
I got one of these about 3 months ago. Mine does not have the barrel threads. I got mine because I wanted a sear host and this gun is advertised as sear ready. I have only shot about 500 rds so far. Mine works 100%. I really like the scope rail welded on the receiver. I got mine for about 1350.
My mag catch failed and stopped retaining mags, fixed by replacing it with German part. My receiver has damage in it from shooting it suppressed sadly (roller bump) PTR is the only clone maker I’m aware of advising customers to use an 80 degree locking piece in the full length MP5 configuration. I believe this is because the PTR bolt head is too small (out of spec) and moves too quickly (less mass) with the combo of subsonic ammo and suppressor. Watch out for this.
Mike, I've never had a jones for an MP5. This one though, man, I'm in love with it. FWIW, I much prefer the way you built it out over those two bar things that hold the stock. I was looking for a 7.62x39 gun that wasn't an AK and picked up a PTR 32. I put the G3A3 collapsing buttstock on it. It makes an already heavy rifle even heavier. And not very comfortable. The .308 guns with that buttstock must be awful. Otherwise seems to have good fit and finish but it's easy to see why the Finns stayed with their Valmets.
Thank you Sir. I live my PTR K, my favorite suppressor host. I'm thinking about getting a binary for it just for the giggles. What do you think about binary?
Nice, I've been looking for a 9mm PCC suppressor host and I strongly dislike the look of glock mag models. I have a Stribog in 45 and it's incredibly soft-shooting, so I'm trying to decide between those two platforms. Leaning towards the HK design, but I may just have to get both!
The plastic that PTR uses on the lower looks like toy quality junk, but the rest of the gun is probably pretty good. I'd be willing to fork over the extra $K to get the HK.
@@farklestaxbaum4945you sound like those old fuds with 1911s who literally said the same thing about Glock back in the early 90s. That aged well. Mine sucks. Every third round or so is a malfunction. A casing above the bcg. I'm sure it's the ETS mags that come with it but for the price it should come with at least one good mag.
I paid $450 for my Extar EP9 and it has 1,500 rounds through it and never had a single malfunction. I clean it once every 400 rounds by simply spraying it down with Ballistol and running a snake through the barrel and working the action. I’m not sold on the AR’s rearward-biased cocking handle. That should have been on the left side of the weapon in a non-reciprocating configuration right from the 1950s when Stoner penned the design.
Call me crazy but I’d rather have the PTR than an H&K. PTR figured out how to put a full length pic rail and an actually useable handguard with Mlok slots. I recently picked up a 9CT, it's quickly becoming one of my favorite guns that I own.
Always good to have reliable options like this in the 9mm platform that stay true to the MP5 design.
💯
Never been able to wrap my mind around a 2k 9mm pistol. Especially in the days of $400.00 5.56 platforms of the same size.
The solution is the Extar EP9. $450. Half the weight of an AR. It's the only thing that makes sense.

That slop in the trigger at the 20 sec mark..... OUCH!!!
I had Bill Springfield do a trigger job for my clone. It made a HUGE difference!!!

Another point about the collapsible SB brace, its a full pound heavier than the side folding brace that they offer for these.
