    I've lived in Mexico for 11 years. Took covid to get me to finally visit CDMX..I fell in love with the place!!! Been about 10 x in 2 years. It's so amazing, got to be 1 of my favourite cities in the world...yes the world!! It's big but the main areas are all walkable.

    Lived in CDMX from 2018 - 2020, and really used to loved it. Thankfully caught the tail end of some of the glory years. However, I moved out when the influx of remote corporate workers all decided to take advantage of new WFH policies and the entire online working world flocked to Mexico mid 2020. Local Mexicans attitudes towards foreigners are increasingly on the downturn, remote workers from NYC, California, Toronto, etc are increasingly driving prices up and overpaying absurd amounts for rent, not bothering to learn spanish, and just generally ruining the culture that I love. Sad to see.

      Funny that your comment didn't get a like from the video creator because you are quite right. What bothers me the most is they not having any interest in assimilating into México but rather are content with developing self contained communities that expect to be catered to.

      I disagree with your conclusion. I also came here in 2018 and I'm still here. I hear so much talk about hoards of foreigners moving here and changing the dynamic. I think this is a sensational assumption. This city is way too big to be changed in any way by present day migration trends. I have barely noticed any changes caused by foreigners moving here after 2020.

      I rent two apartments in hot spots in the city (Polanco and Granada) and I've no idea where you get the info that foreigners have increased prices in the city. That is absolutely FALSE. Indeed, since 2020 the prices drove down because of pandemic and are still far from recovering or being in its highest point. No offense but is pure sensationalism!

    I agree that safety is a huge deciding factor when it came to selecting a home base in Mexico. I settled on Merida 2 years ago but I absolutely love Mexico City. I try to visit there often and hope to spend more time there this year. The weather is so much better than Merida where it came get extremely hot or lots of rain for a big chunk of the year. I would love to buy a condo in CDMX. But Merida is home base since it's way more safer for a single woman like me.

    Places to see in Mexico City>Xochimilco, Anthropology museum, Ballet Folklorico, Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, National Autonomous University of Mexico, Zona Rosa and a great restaurant called Hacienda de Los Morelos. If you are thinking about relocating to Mexico City consider it has a higher potential for large earthquakes since the city is built over an old lake.

After that we are heading to SE Asia, where as you said in the video, there are permanent residency visa issues. One country that does have permanent residency options is Taiwan - have you ever considered it? It is as safe in many ways as Japan, and is high on our list.

    6:40 you felt. Now you’re talking! YOU felt. That's
    subjective. People feel different about the same thing. That's why we have STATISTICS and ways to anylise it. What you feel it's not a representation of reality. Pretty simple.

    • @AlinaMcleod
      @AlinaMcleod  2 роки тому +1

      Well a person should consider both. Statistics have to be very specific of what is the crime for, what areas, what motives etc. There's countries where tourists are specifically targeted and others where it's primarily amongst gangs. I'm saying that I didn't feel to be a primary target in CDMX as I did in other cities in LATM. There's also a very strong police presence in Mexico City in the tourist populated areas, so if you're ok with staying in those specific areas, especially during the day time, it's unlikely anything too serious is going to happen to you.

    • @Anderson_Anderas
      @Anderson_Anderas 2 роки тому +1

      @@AlinaMcleod OK, I agree with you. But sometimes when there is no police or there are few policemen, it means that nothing happens in that area.
      Canada is a good exemple. Another one is "Morro de São Paulo" which was, recently, considered one of the best 'beaches' in the world or "Praia do Forte". Both are close to Salvador, the first capital of Brazil. Although Salvador has problems like most big cities in Brazil and you have to be smart, the surrounding areas are quite safe, there are police stations, but you won´t see policemen walking around.
      In order to see that you need to check the statistics(types of crime) and talk to people. BOTH are important! Not feel it.
      "Morro de São Paulo" is far safer than Cancun. There is no need to have policeman holding war guns to make you feel safe.
      As well as many parts of Brazil you have visited. There are huge differences between cities and neighborhood in the country.
      By the way, did you know that, officially, the chance of having your cellphone robbed or stolen in Rio(the capital) is 1 in 120 thousand? And the chance of dying during natural birth in Canada is around 4 in 100 thounsand? The change of being killed during a robbery in Rio is 1 in 60 millions? Of course that living in Rio and being exposed everyday you gotta be smart in order to make the chances get lower. I mean, lots of places you visited during your trip in Brazil you were much safer than you can imagine.
      "BOTH! Not feel it."
      Sometimes 'police' means "Something happens here" Got it?

    Great video, and great points about cdmx which I love. It's a city that never runs out of things to see and do plus being centrally located is easy to get away to a lot of other areas around. Regarding areas to live, focusing on the expats communities is more expensive, but if you check other areas around this areas you may find better and cheaper options and still not far away like Del Valle, Juarez neighborhoods. You do need to spend more time in the city especially if you're looking to buy. But glad you enjoy cdmx and hopefully we get to see more of you around Mexico. Greetings from Jalisco, and the best for was coming ahead!🙏✌

    Gosh sakes, Alina! Have you ever considered the Dallas-Ft. Worth area in Texas, USA? Especially north of Dallas? Do you realize that this city has all the modern amenities and new apartments you could want? So many restaurants! Tex-Mex culture and decency, respect, for all. Tons of women in business. Low crime rate. An enormous and highly efficient international airport (DFW), used as a connections hub by many airlines and with a range to Asia, Europe, South and Central America, Canada - it is centrally located- you can get to almost anywhere from here! The state of Texas has NO state income tax, only sales and property taxes - for a young person who is renting an apartment, you do not see the tax. If you don’t buy much, you don’t pay much tax. Seems fair that only those who have the money and spend it are the ones who pay the tax (here where I am is 8.25%). If you own a home, property taxes have increased this year, primarily because single family dwellings are in such demand and market prices increasing, because people are migrating to the Midwest of USA away from coastal cities east and west. Some well known companies are relocating their headquarters to the area and to other cities in Texas. If you crave beaches, Texas has a very long coastline with the Gulf of Mexico, and you can travel along the Gulf Coastline into other states and enjoy the beaches there too (especially like the crystalline blue water around Seaside Florida). In a large metropolitan area, like Dallas, you could find employment as a spokesperson or interviewer for a television station or work in other media - if you ever got tired of winging it on your own - and you’d be a welcome celeb for the area - you look like a fashionable and authentic Texas gal, fit right in! The winters are very mild and mostly sunny - average temp about 45 F for high. Occasionally we hit a rare low of 10 F for a day, and snow for a couple of days that melts off in about 3 days. Ice occasionally. Nothing like the middle of Sask. However, our summers can get HOT - 90s F for highs, occasional 103 days (stay inside mainly with AC), and 70s early morning and overnight. Hottest time of year is late September and October; cooling starts in November. I would not locate along Gulf Coast, necessarily, due to seasonal risk of hurricanes. Dallas area is pretty ideal, if you can deal with the summer sizzle at times - nothing you haven’t experienced already hiking in Central America. Wish you could take a visit here. So much to explore.

      @@AlinaMcleod OK, do visit some of our beautiful places, if you can (like Rocky Mountains, Grand Canyon, beaches along the Gulf, Lighthouse tours along Pacific, etc.). I’m not sure what your objections are about the nation. Since 9/11 happened, security concerns made airport clearances, and immigration concerns very tough. It got to be tense and anxious for a long while, and there may still be remnants of that attitude in practice at times. Generally speaking, people are friendly and helpful, and there are plenty of small town places with homegrown feel, just as there are big cities with heart and others not - just as in Canada. I do love the appearance of the mountains around Banff in Alberta, CAN. Just beautiful! Home is where you feel welcomed and appreciated, safe and integrated. Wherever you choose, I wish these things for you. Thank you for reading my comments, and the reply! Personally, you’re awesome, and deserving of our accolades for bravery, intellect and enthusiasm!

      @@AlinaMcleodThanks for replying. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience living elsewhere in Central America. I'd assume that Panama and Costa Rica are more expensive than the rest of the countries which lie between Mexico and Colombia, because they're also the two most prosperous countries with the best infrastructure in Central America, and therefore with the most ex-pats as well. My personal experience is that it's considerably less expensive to live in Panama than in the US or Canada, and quite a bit less than the Caribbean Islands, where everything must be shipped in. Anyway, not trying to twist your arm, but I enjoy your videos and hope to one day get your take on Panama as well. And, if you Answer is no, just tell us why you would not consider doing so. I am Brazilian and I am interested in comparing the pros and cons of living in these two Brazilian huge urban areas compared to others world major hubs. If you could comment on about that, it would be humbly enlightening to me. Txs.

      For sure. I really loved Rio for many reasons, primarily the stunning landscape, beaches, laid back sort of lifestyle. Sao Paulo was nice too but it didn't really leave a strong enough impression that I'd want to spend a lot of time there. Love visiting both cities, but I wouldn't consider them long term for the safety aspect, English isn't as widely spoken as I'd like and it's also very long flights to both North America and Europe (main places I'd be going). Out of all the places I went to in Brazil, I think Florianopolis was the most livable city for what I'd be looking for, quite safe, stunning nature and still has good amenities. But sadly it would be even a longer journey to try and get anywhere else in the world.

I have never been to Mexico City, so that it is very difficult to give advice on this, but if you feel that this could be a nice city to live in, you should follow your feelings. This is my opinion. Totally agree with everything here. I lived in Mexico City for two years and dreamed of relocating there. It's affordable to live but, yeah, flat prices in La Roma, La Condesa, Polanco are crazy to buy now. I totally agree that in these type of areas you can feel totally safe but in the end, I decided not to relocate there forever; when I lived there in 2010-2012 only the north of the country was particularly dangerous and gradually over time the violence is spreading to more areas. If you're talking about buying houses and setting down routes, you'd really have to ask yourself how sure you can be that these areas will be as safe in 5 years and go from there

But things have changed, properties have gone from $100k to much, much more and as you say, I would not feel comfortable investing in Mexican real estate because violence isn't concentrated in the north as it was previously and there are no guarantees that CDMX will remain (relatively) safe

But there is another place that not many mention and it's Chapala, It's a town established on the shores of Lake Chapala, it has the second most stable weather in the world, and it's English friendly to, there are to many Americans and Canadians (but must of them retired old people), is so peaceful place, and is to near to Guadalajara city, the second most important city in Mexico and to cosmopolitan to.

      @@AlinaMcleod Yes its not as economical as Mexico, However, it does have some very good tax advantages and fairly liberal requirements for expats who want to live there. It is a big/small city with about one million people. They use the US $ and you can drink the water. (The US helped with their infrastructure when they owned the Panama Canal for over 100 years.) The city even has a central park with a jungle and a zoo near the Canal. There is a new subway system as well. You can also live in the mountains in the Boquete area which is where most expats live. There are amazing islands, beaches, historical sites, open air restaurants, brew pubs, casinos, etc. FYI - The NYC airports were charging up to $28 for a Sam Adams, so you can't judge a country by their airport prices!!
