- This clip, which is from the 1991 documentary "Dance Centerstage", has an extremely awful English dubbed soundtrack for the interview. Also includes footage of the dance Dojoji (The Dojo Temple) with Kataoka Takao (now Nizaemon).
it is so nice when we can watch so many actors on stage...and tamasaburo looks sooo nice at the end on the bell
Thank you so much!
Dojyoji is the masterpiece of Onnagata dance, expressing every aspect of woman's heart.
The original Kyokanoko-musume-dojyoji 京鹿子娘道成寺 is danced by one Onnagata. There are a couple of versions, such as Ninin-doujyoji 二人道成寺 by two Onnagata. This is Meoto-doujyoji 男女道成寺 by a man and an Onnagata.
one interesting fact...he seems so graceful and whatnot because he uses a disability to his advantage...he has a bad leg...and that allows his actions to not be to robust...absoloutly amazing
I did not know that, it would have killed his line of work in the west. He is my favorite kabuki dancer.
heatherleaves, you can ask your local library to do an inter-library loan perhaps? Many public libraries seem to carry this tape.
this was made 20 years ago though, so he is 40 in this.
La expresión del feminismo de Tamasaburo es teatral, no vital, una mujer no interpretaría, sería. This is a great diference.
@Bootlegization nope... he's 60 (61 actually)
why the actors dance with those kind of circular discs? what do they mean?
@Bootlegization nope... he's 60 (61 actually)..
