For anyone suffering right now, ur skin WILL go back to normal. I had the worse case of this last year and it lasted 3 month before it started fading. This made me start taking care of my skin (the rash makes u start appreciating your skin) so my skin is super healthy now.

Were you prescribed anything? Mine is pretty severe and I was put on prednisone and prescribed cream for it. I have been off the prednisone for 2 days and am now seeing new ones form. Its just so annoying. Its not extremely prickly like it was before the prednisone

@@graysonarabia3866 Not completely yet. Im in month 6. I still have some small bumps on my stomach but for the most part its clear and not flaring up with new spots. I didn't clear up until month 5, but its not as common to have it that long. There is actually a pretty large group on Facebook that people share their experiences on. Its interesting how much the side effects vary from each case.

I experienced P.R. probably over 15+ years ago now. Just looking at those pictures brought me near tears. As an African American woman, I was covered in black welts from my neck down. People were scared to be near me. I did see a dermatologist and received care. Most of the scarring disappeared [98.9%] except my back. One fortunate habit that came out of this experience was my introduction to sunscreen. If anyone is experiencing P.R. now, follow your medical providers recommendations, including what you learned in this video and do not SCRATCH. Breathe deeply and know you will be your fabulous self once again soon.

Thank you for this informative video. I got diagnosed with this condition yesterday and leading up to my appointment I was terrified. The spots appeared and spread so quickly I was convinced I had bed bugs or some bacterial skin condition. I feel good knowing it will clear up eventually on its own, but it’s still been a stressful experience. To anyone out there currently experiencing this, I’m sending you love and light!

I decided to come back to these videos because I was able to stop my pityriasis rosea from spreading.
-a week before first rash- I had swollen lymph nodes indicating some sort of virus, but I ignored it
-day 1- I saw an oval-shaped rash on my neck, but didn’t think much of
-day 3 to 5- It started to slowly spread toward my chest, so I researched online and self-diagnosed it as pityriasis rosea & freaked out
-day 6- I went to a doctor and was diagnosed as pityriasis rosea and said it would spread, but naturally go away
-day 6- I did my own research online & order L-Lysine supplements online
-day 7- I started going outside in direct sunlight at least 15 minutes every morning (before 10AM), took L-Lysine supplements every day, and took an oatmeal bath almost every night, and used oatmeal-based moisturizer (Aveeno) on my neck
-day 10- The rashes stopped spreading and it never went beyond my chest
I can’t guarantee it will work on everyone, but I was so surprised it worked for me after sooo many people said it was going to spread no matter what
      I hope it helps!

I am about rid of my PR. It lasted about 2.5 - 3 months. I believe stressing about your PR will make it worse so please try to stay calm, this too shall pass. My doctor prescribed me Selenium Sulfide 2.5 % Lotion, which I used, I also used Aveeno body wash, Aveeno oatmeal bath, Aveeno hydrocortisone and Aveeno body lotion. Also lukewarm showers are a must!! But for me I believe what helped me stay calm and focused during this time was to get closer to God. He truly showed me by putting all my trust and belief in him I could be healed. As soon as I did that I swear it started to clear up. I didn't worry about it or stress and I just saw it slowly disappear. It will go away! You just have to believe God will heal you 🙏🏼

I had this a couple of years ago over about an eight week period from herald patch to progression from back to chest, then stomach.Unable to see my doctor at the time and not knowing what it was , the itching was excruciating. ( particularly at night, and hot showers would really aggravate). I ended up grinding whole cloves and making a paste with vitamin e. It does give you a stinging pain for a while, but it seemed to anaesthetise the areas and helped immensely to get sleep and provide relief from itching.I think this may have helped healing by reducing scratching which really adds to the aggravation. Also used Calomine lotion towards the end.
After it had mostly healed, the doctor confirmed diagnosis by the photos of herald patch and rash over the time period. Told the doc how I was dealing with it, and he said just keep doing what you're doing. My thoughts go out to anyone suffering this and looking for relief. It really can drag on, but the body gets on top of it eventually.

Sounds about the same as mine ...the heard patch is on the side of my rib, under my underarm area...it was so big, I first thought I laid on something and bruised it....then it started looking shiny and scaly, at the same time😅...I got shook...had a dental appointment at the VA one day and since I was in the building and had had this patch for a week and 1/2 by then and the smaller ones were forming....I said let me go bother one of the nurses, since my Dr. is usually pretty busy...the nurse didn't know fully what it was so she ended up having to grab my Dr. anyway....she came in and in one glimpse said P.R....and reassured me that it would be ok....fast forward to today (about 3 weeks since seeing Dr.) I am itchhhhhhhinggggg and they seem to have stopped appearing (🤞🏾) but it's not gone by far...The cool showers suck...I want my body back🙄

I had this about a year ago. Got it once summer started. Started off as itchy bumps that turned into darker marks. As a woman of color the marks just got darker and very obvious. It spread down from my neck, chest , thighs trailing down my thighs. My back was covered but my back was how I realized what I had after doing tons of research and going to urgent care twice. My back had the tree like form that’s common with PR. And at night the itchiness just got worse.
I used a lot of thick moisturizers and exfoliated with those shower gloves when they started to peel excessively. There was scarring that I used some rose hip oil and sunscreen to try to help with that.
I really would wish this on anybody. Hopefully I never get it again because it really takes a toll on self esteem 🙁

Okay so I now have PR for the second time. My advice is:
Home treatments: L-Lysine, 30 mins a day in the sun, oatmeal baths, chamomile on the itchy parts, vitamin E oil.
From the doctor: Dermovate Cream ( Clobeatsol Propionate) and Flucloxallinin antibiotics
The first time I had it no one knew what it was, took me a really long time to get the right treatment meaning it spread. MOISTURISER is key, no fragrance. Diprobase from the pharmacy is good. Stay calm, it will be okay. First time around I had it over my whole body even my face, but once I had the right treatment it cleared up in a few weeks, left marks for a few months and was completely gone.
Mines come back, from extensive research I think it’s from having COVID and my immune system being weak, following that I had the vaccine and then a cold and I was parting a lot.

Got diagnosed with this today...wasn't a good day. Had to call my newborn's pediatrician and let them advise me if it was safe to hold my child...that was awful, but I got the OK. Then I had to tell my wife, which was a little easier. Then I had to go to a lab without an appointment, and sit in a waiting room four hours until I could get bloodwork, just to rule out syphilis, which the doctor said I absolutely do NOT have, but I'm a completist and I want to rule that out indefinitely. So now I wait for Monday and my results, watching UA-cam videos and scratching myself because I'm itchy despite the Sarna I'm liberally applying. To anybody reading this and going through it too, hang in there, we'll get through it and I'll see you on the other side.

I had the herald patch for one week and began getting a little spots a day before I took my first dose of lysine. I took it because I read that PR is from herpes six or seven. Remembered hearing that lysine helps other types of herpes virus infections.

    GOT THIS 2 TIMES.
I was diagnosed with this when I was 23. Got the big spot on the middle of my back the little spots on lower abdomen and thighs. I noticed stiffness in my elbows. The rash never went to my lower legs or forearms.
Now I'm about to turn 50 and have it again. I know it's not contagious because I live alone and haven't been around people. This time it started with the big spot on my shoulder and started getting small spots near it on my arm. Starting to get some on chest and abdomen. Ones on my back start out as short red lines rather than spots. I feel tired with joint pain and Allegra helped with the itching. Going in the sun made more spots both times. I have not been on any new medications, but I did have alot of stress before I got this.

Had this about two years ago at the age of 62.Very severe form covered all my torso.Started with a herald patch on my upper right arm which was half an inch oval rash.Worst case of itching followed an about 12 weeks duration.Best solution for me was to apply antiseptic cream used for nappy rash at night after a bath using lots of head and shoulders shampoo (used for dandruff and itching scalp) using a soft bristle bath brush in circular motions over the affected areas. The itching will certainly lessen.Wear a tshirt in bed, change each day..always use a fresh towel and put the used one in the wash away from any one who shares your bathroom.Once your rash has subsided start To massage the areas of skin affected with gentle open palm circular movements. This will restore the condition of your skin which can become crepey after a severe episode.Everything healed , no long term issues.Thankyou for bringing this to peoples attention.

When I came home I still thought it was an allergic reaction and then I saw the spots and went to a dermatologist. I mainly had spots on my belly and my low back. It’s quite terrifying when you get it…thanks to the internet, I self-diagnosed as I was traveling internationally at the time, and no doctor seemed to be able to give me any insight as to what it was. I had a pretty severe flu-like sickness and was prescribed amoxicillin for whatever reason, and as stated here, I was no longer physically sick when the rash started. It intensified until week 5-6, then stagnated until it resolved at about 10 weeks. I thought I had contracted HIV or syphilis as I’d never heard of this before. It’s strange to me that so little information is available on this condition. Five years later, I’ve never had a recurrence, but it remains one of those mysterious medical chapters that instilled great fear and trauma in me! To anyone needing reassurance, it will go away and you will get back to normal soon enough!

I believe it's what I have right now and I have an appointment with my Dr in a couple days to make sure it's nothing more serious. Although as of today it seems to be healing - the mother patch and the older daughter patches are starting to smooth out and lose their scaliness and roughness. It's been 3-4 weeks since the mother patch first appeared and I haven't done anything more than take cooler showers and moisturize per usual to help it along. Thanks, Dr. Dray!

I was able to beat this rash in a month using 2 things. Visits to a tanning bed 2-3 times a week. Preferably 3. and a cream called prreze. Use coconut oil while you wait for your prreze cream to be delivered. Making the rash dry up via sunlight or a tanning bed is the most important. Do not overlook this detail. DR. DRAY YOU ARE A MIRACLE WORKER I SWEAR!! I already commented on this video 2 weeks ago but I just have to comeback here and wrote a progress report because I was just gobsmacked by the result in mine!
So I had this 2 weeks ago and as I mentioned in my previous comment, mine was so debilitating, it literally had me in bed from the flu symptoms, on top of the unbearable itch that went with it. Using Dove unscented soap did nothing but made my Pityriasis a million times worse than it already did. The antihistamine my gp recommended wasn't helping either. I'd just fall asleep but when I wake up, my entire body is still incredibly itchy and stinging a little bit. Well I followed Dr. Dray's advise regarding the colloidal oatmeal. I used the Aveeno Body Wash in green bottle for my entire body, and then when my skin is still wet from the shower, I immediately apply the Aveeno Moisturizing Body Lotion all over (including my face). First time I used Aveeno I was ready to cry from so much relief!! It felt sooo nice on my skin, it honestly was my first time experiencing how a properly moisturized skin should look like. It's so surreal!! Literally just using the Aveeno for 2 straight days, twice a day(it's really humid and hot where I live) and my pityriasis was practically gone!!! I was so blown away at how quick it worked for me and how drastic the change was since I was already expecting to have the condition in 3 weeks at the very least. And now two weeks of continuously using Aveeno and my skin is smooth as a baby's bottom. The only thing I have left are the hyperpigmentations, which are super light now, I don't care much about them. Aveeno's the only product I'm using now, and I'll only come to Dr. Dray for skin care advice.

Thank you!!! This rash had me thinking I had bedbugs. I had wondered why the spots looked more like scales than bug bites. I also wondered why the ringworm I had wasn't going away. I have been putting expensive Lotrimin cream on it with no signs of results. Apparently it's not a ringworm. Lol

I really wish that i could have found this when i had it. For me i had it at the end of December (2019) and it lasted for about 2-3 months after. It originally started on the thigh (herald patch) about a week before the other circular patches but it then spread to the trunk, neck, legs and more. By about the 6 week mark, it had also started to spread to my ears, face, scalp, feet, arms and all of the lower body (avoiding my palms and soles). Every doctor i went to (6 different doctors) said that it was an allergic reaction to medication (that i took once after i had already found a larger circular scaly patch on my thigh)or eczema. Although they said that, they looked just as perplexed and also started to ask for punch biopsies. So after suffering with it being EVERYWHERE and being about an 8/10 on the itchiness meter (being about a 4/10 when using moisturizers) i went to a dermatologist (this was at about week 9) and found out that i had an extremely abnormal version of pityriasis rosea. Go figure. So after learning that it was going the flaky stage i was so releaved. So yeah that was my experience (not to mention that for all of the months that i had it i still had to go to a uniformed high school.
So to anyone who is going through this, know that you can get through this, and ignore all the comments.

Thanks for this very informative video. I've been sort of chasing random zebras for a few months now with various doctors and I think my diagnosis has finally settled on pityriasis rosea. First noticed rather small red patch on wrist, but within a week or two, it had blossomed to a large red, somewhat scaly area covering the entire area between my thumb and forefinger, but nearly perfectly circular. Doctors started trying various corticosteroids (OTC, triamcinolone, clobetasol) to absolutely zero effect, and actually developed another circular area about an inch higher on my affected hand. Dermatologist tried ketoconazole and doxycycline oral, again to no effect, and within a week, a new area on the opposite hand emerged (funnily in exactly the same area between my thumb and forefinger) (I'm nothing if not bilaterally congruent!) That's where I'm at now. Zero itchiness, zero pain, just four REALLY large circular blood-red areas on my hands. Nothing's on my back or trunk as of yet. A new doc has suggested Benadryl, but seems to take the opinion that nothing really is going to hasten its departure. Sort of a wait and see thing. I wondered if perhaps an antiviral like valacyclovir would help, since research seems to suggest its viral in nature. No one has agreed with me on that, haha. I've stopped with the antifungal and corticosteroid creams. They really weren't doing anything and my initial doc wanted me to use the antifungal for three months. I suppose I'm a bit relieved to know that it's not contagious nor is it spread via contact with affected areas. So pretty much it's going to erupt wherever it erupts, through no cause of my own. Looks like I'm just going to have to be patient and wait for the areas to resolve on their own. It is still a bit shocking to look down at my hands and see these four huge red spots there every day. I'm wondering if new areas will continue to emerge up along my arms, up my neck and face or across to my trunk area. Guess that's specific to each patient. I was also interested to read that infants are believed to contract the virus which then lies dormant until some time later? Anyway, thanks for the video and having a place to share my thoughts, worries and musings. It's really a skin condition I'd never before heard of!

Hi Dr. Dray. I had this forty years ago and my family doctor knew what it was. I remember the name because I was taking a botany class and there is a shrub called pittosporum on our campus and the rash was rosy in color. Fortunately, I don’t remember my rash being very itchy and it was able to be concealed by my clothing. I have only had it once. It is unsightly. Thanks for discussing it so well. Thank you for this! I had ringworm a couple years ago which I’ve never experienced then covid and I’m pretty sure I have some sort of immune system issue going on that manifests on my skin. It started with me developing scaly patches on my upper arms, torso and one bigger patch near my groin (assuming herald patch). It’s went on for almost 6 weeks now and my body goes from not itchy at all to intensely itchy (weirdly coinciding with certain clothing so possibly a textile allergy going on too!) by far the biggest anxiety inducer has been the not knowing. My doc initially assumed eczema but then suggest PR due to presentation and persistence. Waiting on a dermo referral which I’ve been told could take up to a year 😢 it’s truly maddening the not knowing but really appreciate your wealth of knowledge on the subject. Thank you!

Once it spread to my arms I knew better than to scratch and I think that made it pass faster.
