  • Packing the Lance Truck Camper & Hitting the Road! | Go North Ep 3
There was a lot to do to actually hit the road and changing rigs to make this adventure was quite an undertaking. Fortunately, unlike when we first hit the road and had to downsize from our house, the change isn’t quite as drastic and we are downsizing temporarily vs. permanently. We just have to live without some things for 6-9 months instead of getting rid of all the things we won’t be taking.
Check out our list of Recommended Alaska Gear: kit.co/Mortons...
One of the biggest questions we’ve gotten about our change from a 33ft fifthwheel to a Lance 1172 truck camper for our summer truck camper rving to Alaska and beyond is about downsizing. In the truck camper, we will have less space and weight carrying capacity. In Go North Episode 3, we take you through our packing process for truck camper life.
Read the details about How We Packed Our Truck Camper for Alaska:

Downsizing to a Truck Camper from a Fifth Wheel RV
    www.mortonsont...
Once packed, we finally hit the road and make our way to Alabama Hills for our first night of boondocking on the road!

We love that you shared what a herculean effort it took to get transitioned from your 5th into the Lance. Even without the reduction in size and weight-carrying capacity, just the move itself was obviously a huge challenge. We're sure that inertia is part of what's kept us in the same rig for over 14 years. You really get moved into these things! Thanks for sharing another great episode!

Tom, you need a couple of tool rolls. They are smaller and hold a LOT of tools.

Couldn't agree more. I just bought 6 of Dickies large tool rolls at Sears online for about $80. Unfortunately I guessed about 4 rolls short.

If you install a viair constant duty system under the bed of the truck on the passenger side it would free up some space in the cab. That is what I did in my f350. I will be adding pictures to our Instagram soon. #rvfamilydream

Great episode. I hadn't thought about the emotional aspect of leaving your fifth and PU for the duration. Should be over that in a short while, way too much adventure ahead! You've got just about the best rig setup one could hope for!

And away you go! I’m so excited for you two!
This is the epic road trip that I think most people want to take, however, there is trepidation for the unknown. So many stories of it being so rugged and beautiful!
The Motorhome Experiment went to the Arctic Ocean in a class A! I fell in love with Alaska from watching their channel.
Now I get to see a different view of Alaska, your view! I can’t wait!!
    Until next time...

Glad you are on the road. Look forward to seeing more videos. When I went to Alaska from Kansas in 1987, all I had was a small Nissan Pick-up and a very small Coleman Pop-up trailer. No power, no solar, just me, my dog, and a cooler. I had no problems finding food, services such as tire repair, laundry, etc. Didn't even bring any tools to speak of with me either (just enough to change a tire) and it turned out I didn't need them. I am sure you may have the occasional flat, but with a brand new truck and camper you should be in great shape. We have a Lance TT (2375). We took it out on a 78 day trip one week after we got it and there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. Not even a tiny little thing. Took 2 more short trips with it after we got home from the big trip and it is still perfect. I am sure you guys will be fine and have a perfect trip. Looking forward to seeing all that you see and do! Good luck and keep those videos coming!!!

Wow Well done!!!! Started properly at episode 1, My wife and I are full time RV'ers in a Excel 5th wheel (back in the day when we had it made we almost went with Mobil Suites) Now looking at Lance and Artic Fox Truck Campers to go camping in LOL!! I/we wan't to be more mobil for quick weekend trips and to go Cross Country again we have done it before (Mass to California), but it was difficult pulling a 37 foot 5th wheel with 4 slides! Couldn't hit the State parks or anything off road.

Up until the end, I figured you were leaving your fifth wheel in Michigan on your property. You have cut down your drive significantly by leaving from California. Is Lance storing your truck and fifth wheel for you? It can be tough finding real estate to park/store something like that in California. Really glad you got to feeling better before you left. I HATE traveling when I am sick. Hope your recovery continues for you! Have a great trip!!!

Undoubtedly the best produced UA-cam RV/Adventure channel out there. You comments and approach to the environment hit the point. We have to preserve what is left and keep out commercial exploitation. As a nation, we must get good managers in position to preserve our public lands. Hopefully, the political environment in DC will change for the better.
