I got a good chuckle out of this video. The way you kept say, "great white shark" in almost sentence, and reassuring us that you were, indeed, an expert, cracked me up.
I am glad you understood what this video was meant to be then. 😉🤣
It was more of a joke when he called me an expert. I’ve only watched Jaws twice.
@@HookpointFishingMagazine I'm sure, with continued tutelage from John, you'll be top notch sharkologist in no time. Perhaps you'll continue into post grad work by watching Jaws 2, 3, 4...11-teen...
John, just a tip from my Great Wight Shark fishing experience in the Solent. I use 3 hook flapper rigs with worm and tipped with sprat.
Using this method I've had at least as much success as anybody else targeting Great White Sharks.
That is brilliant. And yes, so far you have had just as much success as we have. 🤣
Mussell and a bit WD40 m8! The big White Pointers love it
@@TheFishLocker should try a 2mm thick wire running around the boat 18 inches below the surface, 400 milivolts at 91 pulses a minute, we had a breach and a biter go at the back of the boat 17ft long great white 1.5 miles off torbay beach. 1983. we took a photo and processed at boots the chemist, they kept a copy of the photo, it was gifted to the girl on the counter.

@@TheFishLocker you said that without ringing boots in torbay....
Worthy of a 'like' just for the "I've watched Jaws three times so I feel like a bit of an expert also" 😁. Thanks for great videos John.
Haha. Yeah a sense of humour is required for this video. 😉🤣🤣
If your successful John ,take it to Jim to see what he can do with it 😂🎣
We will make Burritos. Everyone gets a Burrito!!!!
I laughed pretty hard at this, great white gravy and potatoes.
I would lick the plate clean!
I can here Quint now ....
Ah Ah we got a fish cook at home he,s gonna have a heart attack when he see,s what I brought him.

Nice! I lol'd. 😁
You already KNOW that Jim's got a recipe ready to go. 👨🍳
Always interesting John.
Even if no great whites, those blues are stunning.

I’ve never got over how much more blue a blue shark is in the flesh, than on video or in pictures.

Some drone footage would be an excellent addition to the channel when sharking John. (Obviously when you got company) Excellent video yet again never disappoint👌🏼
Great idea ...but its not like losing a drone on a field...pretty expensive risk out on the sea

I find surfers are best bait, so if you are around new Quay grab one, the best are the ones left on the beach over night, they tend to exude a great scent trail & leave a lovely big oily slick 😀
Haha. 🦈🏄♂️
😂😂😂🤪 John you make I laugh! Great video, there was clearly a Great White in the area when the whiting weren’t biting hahaha
That is the only possible explanation.
@@TheFishLocker - Definitely wasn't down to the calibre of angler fishing for them.
A very entertaining video John, like you, would have loved to see a Great White. Sure it will happen but I think you might need a longer programme. Thanks for the Sunday feast always a treat.
No ,A bigger boat and warmer water
Don’t need any warmer water than we have
Good luck with your quest , entertaining as always
Thanks Dave. 😊👍🏻
I used to know a guy that was a commercial urchin (uni) diver. He was on the South Coast of Oregon, on the bottom picking urchins, and a LARGE shadow crossed over him. Looked up to find he was under a LARGE sized Great White. He was....somewhat motivated to return to the boat. He's the only person I know that has seen one around here. We get basking shark fairly often, cool to see!
If you go out to blue water, we also get Mako and Thresher. VEEERY tasty, but not something you should kill often if at all.
I would love to get a Mako. Such stunning creatures. 💙🦈
Another great video John, I believe you will catch one. Will be watching.

There’s always next time. 💪🏻🦈
Great effort there John , I was hoping every time we herd the reels screaming that the fabled great white would be on the end. 🤞🏼next time bud , appreciate your efforts as always mate 🦈👍🏼👍🏼
So were we. Hopefully next time!! 🦈
Great video mate some lovely sharks caught there great sport 👍👍🎣
Stunning aren’t they. 😊🦈
Fantasy fishing was fun! Got me hoping for the impossible, but it was not a disappointment. My imagination added the touch needed for a Great White hunt. 😉
Anything is possible. 😉
Another great video John nice clutch of blues would have loved to have seen you pull out a porbeagle or even a mako. just a thought John it would be nice in your workshop channel if you would run a series for people just getting started in fishing on what they should be looking for when buying their first bit of kit say for shore fishing boat pier and from the rocks including safety kit. Not seen this done by anyone with the presentation skills you have.
Keep it up calm seas tight lines and land those fish.
Have fun
Tom
Great idea, especially for those of us poor land locked individuals who have the course gear, but no sea tackle.
There are videos covering those things between the 2 channels already. 😉👍🏻
Some lovely blue's there John, good days sport.
Grant "We're gonna need a bigger boat"
Jim "We're gonna need a bigger frying pan" 🤣😂🤣😂

Please keep trying for all of us to see!!
Don’t try don’t get!
Also I’m sure they are here.
Great video thanks 🙏
If anyones going to catch one I hope it’s me. 🤣🦈
Great action as always! I have not been shark fishing in years. This makes me want to go now! Here in California our great whites primary feed on seals. They are ambush predators. Hang low then swim up and it's all over. Maybe find a good seal spot and try again especially when they have their pups.
Good tips. 👍🏻🦈
@@TheFishLocker maybe a sammy the seal float instead of Donald the duck ??👍🏼😊
Would love to go fishing with this man, i don’t know how to fish but im sure, few hours with John is enough haha 👏
Simply sharing what I love doing mate. 👍🏻🦈
One hell of a target , wish you all the best mate , great video as always 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you. 😬🦈
Now I watched this cracking video tongue in cheek. Whiting for Great Whites, 1000 lb + and the term fishy went straight to mind. I was grinning throughout, especially with some of the looks you gave. Never the less so enjoyable, some great blues. Cheers John, rum b****r 😆
Haha. Glad you’ve got a working sense of humour mate. What’s life without a little laughter. 😊🦈
I think different countries, different ideas. Here, to catch whiting, I use a max of a 6lb line, a long shank hook and worm. I catch dozens of whiting this way. We can also catch and keep some sharks under 150cm in length. I do catch black tip reef sharks and keep them, they are great eating. All sharks over 150cm have to be released. Great video!
This video was more tongue in cheek than serious education. 😉🦈
@@TheFishLocker So you can keep and eat sharks??
Another brilliant and entertaining video..keep up the great work John !!
Thank you. 😉👍🏻
Great shark fishing John and boat partner loved watching you catch them.

Glad you got the humour in the video mate. Life’s meant to be fun. 😉🦈
@@TheFishLocker yeah picked up on that strait away lol . Watching jaws was a good one lol 😆

Haha. I'm glad you enjoyed the video mate, with all the seriousness and drama in the world I wanted to make a few people laugh a little. I wasn't having him steal my muppet. Cheeky bugger!!!
Maybe not so much a spoof as we think. Great Whites are confirmed in the Mediterranean (and have been confirmed responsible for a number of attacks in the area. Also, Irish fishermen have made a number of large sharks taking seals all around the southern coast of Ireland. Given the current global rise in sea temperature a confirmed Great White sighting or capture would come as no surprise.
great white don't need warmer waters, they just need a continuous food supply to maintain an elevated temperature.
Could you please provide a study or two as evidence of the "current global rise in sea temperatures".
Certainty better than Andy Hillstrad fishing for Nessie.
The best jokes always have an element of truth.
Great whites are endothermic so can endure pretty chilly waters, fish locker is fishing slap bang in the middle of those temperatures.
They're here
Lol 😂 don't know how you kept a straight face,l was in stitches.....Great camera work by the way, very clear pictures. All the very best John 🌱🌱🌱💕
What do you mean Joyce. I was totally serious. 🤣
Love it! Keep up!
😉👍🏻🦈
I heard big foot strolls around the UK nowadays, could have a hunt for him as well 😂
There’s some down here on the nudist beach. 🤣🤢
Hi John.
Great video as always👍🏻.
We know you are a superb angler.
Take on the only challenge that you can’t walk🧐.
In the next ten years, someone will catch a Great White in UK waters. It will probably be in Cornwall too. Why not you? If you can catch Tuna, you can catch a White Shark. In fact, White Sharks eat Tuna, so fish in the exact spot you caught them.
Check out “Deep Blue”. It’s a 20 foot female White shark estimated to be 4,400 lbs.
One day a shark will be bitten in half when your reeling it in. That’s when you know you are close🤣☝🏻.
Just to let you know, we get Great Whites in Canada, so UK waters will be a breeze for them.
Cheers🇨🇦👍🏻
There’s enough that have been tagged that we’ll know for sure one day.
Great john so funny loved the puns 👏 😄 🤣 great vid 👌
Glad you got the humour mate. 🦈👍🏻🤣
Another super video with fantastic sport!
Thank you Ryan. 😊👍🏻
Brilliant as always John top fishing! Its great to see we have a really healthy stock of blues off our coast and i genuinely believe it wont be long before we have definitive proof of great whites in our waters, as you say we have everything that they require, temps, depths and plentiful food sources, i think its just a matter of time and a lot of luck! Great job, all the best and tight lines to you! 🎣🎣🎣🦈🦈🦈
Couldn't agree more
It’s only a matter of time.
As a surfer along the South Coast, mainly Portsmouth area, Hayling Island, the Isle of White, let me assure you there is certainly a population of migrating sharks along our shores. I have seen huge basking sharks and very odd shaped "basking" sharks many times before. I have even seen a 9ft shark, defo not a basking, in Chichesterharbour area leading out to Langstone. Around Hayling and a west wittering is where I have felt the presence of something big, you feel them long before you see them when in the water.
Not sure about plentiful food sources, seals and tuna etc, are not in sufficient numbers. Travel to the Eastern seaboard and California to see why they are so prolific there.
@@TheMilford99 we have one the largest seal populations in the whole of europe 40% of the world population of grey seals reside on our coasts and there are tuna (not in great numbers) in our waters, John has even caught them and has videos of them on the fishlocker channel!
A really fantastic day's fishing, even if your aims were a bit ambitious. What a lot of blue sharks caught, I never realised that they were so plentiful. Loved the closeups, that's the advantage of having crew member, he made a good cameraman.
They aren’t so common as you would think. Right place, right time, right baits. 😉
@@TheFishLocker And a lot of skill.
Nice to see Blues back in good numbers, well done.
We’ve had a few really good summers on them.
Another fantastic video and an some awesome shark action even if not a great white
Next time we’ll get one.
In South Africa we had them in quite shallow water, we had 7 round the boat after the tuna heads on the back of the boat
Such impressive creatures
Wow!!!
@@TheFishLocker- Jaohn after watching 'Jaws', you will definitely need a bigger boat!!
@@TheFishLocker one things for sure I wouldn't fancy hooking one on your blue shark set up! You'd be out there for days 🤣
It's probably illegal to mess with Great White sharks in any civilized society.
No doubt they’re near our shores here & there & one day I’m sure it’ll happen. I wouldn’t be surprised if this fella gets it. He deserves too. Great fisherman & great video’s. 👍👍
One day.
idk about that, English water tends to be too cold to sustain them. Maybe if y'all get a rogue warm current to bring the temps up a bit more though.
@@saratavington5435 They’ve been seen & caught on colder shores. Alaska for one.
@@Lth56 Alaska is colder than England on land but not in the water. Regular Summer currents bring Whities into Alaskan waters for brief periods of time but they follow the warm water right back out again as soon as the temperature starts to drop. Like what I said about rogue warm currents. According to current knowledge on great whites, the ambient temperatures around England are too cold to sustain them, but if a warm current comes in close enough (which is possible especially with climate change), they'll follow it. It happens off the US East Coast every few years, a current comes up from Florida and Great Whites will follow it into areas normally too cold for them. They'll stay until the temperature drops and then go right back out again. It's what caused the true story that actually inspired Jaws.
@@saratavington5435 Ah. I didn’t know about the sea temps on Alaska to be honest. Thanks for that. I’ve normally gone by the theory that Great Whites are found more where there is a heavy seal population. Would be great to see one here though, as long as it’s respected & not slaughtered.
🤣your humor is priceless. Thank you.

Good stuff :-) You really have hit the nail on the head with this one :-D Nice fishing though :-) beautiful blues.
😬👍🏻 Glad you enjoyed the video mate. 🦈
Have you ever seen a great white in the waters there? I know last year a few fisherman on boats reported a great white in the waters off our coast in Central New Jersey. They are common off southern California, due to plenty of seals. There have been surfers attacked by them. Personally I dont go bathing in the ocean anymore, never know what may be lurking in the deep.
As I say in the video. 😉👍🏻
When you consider the temps are fine, there’s plenty of pinnipeds and the amount of people shark fishing it’s a miracle that there’s not been a single confirmed sighting!!!!
It’s almost as if they aren’t there? 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker yeah, strange that😉😆

Apparently, or so I've been told, there are folk who go abroad for their summer break. Not sure whether I believe it, though!🙄

Another one smashed out the stadium - so interesting! (I didn't need to look again but I remember swimming back to shore like they were, so that's practically science innit! 😂
*actually question if you see this - The 3 big fish i'm referring too, they were just hanging where the water got deep and the cliff edge dropped off into deeper water (i'm not sure which beach it was in kernow but it might have been porth bay?) anyway... they did look like massive fish and from what i remember they had white or a light coloured body (it could have been reflection thinking about it was probably about 30 years ago now) What fish are they likely to have been any ideas? They looked to be maybe 2/3m in length were massive looking things, granted I was about 50M away and it was a quick glance but they looked big and docile in a line just staring at me)

the sarcasm is strong with this one lol, it was the yellow rubber duck that pushed me over the edge
I’m northern and ex military. Sarcasm is my native language mate.
All joking aside !
There used to be a pair of white shark jaws in the Redcar lifeboat museum, it was washed ashore on the beach in the 1950s.
Also there is an old postcard of Whitby showing a great white being pulled up the side of the fish quay.
Lastly there is a photo of one on show on the beach at Whitley bay for a penny per person. It is called a grampus which some people have mistakenly identified as a killer whale but not with the huge gill slits apparent on the picture.
But those were in the days when huge tuna were caught off Scarborough.
Send me the pics if you can to the Fishlocker Fb page. 😉🦈
These would be cool photos to see. The run of tuna increases the possibility of a Med based GW showing up, but, the rapid changing water temps are what is likely keeping them away. Our waters aren't too cold, just lack consistency of water temp.
Great Video 👌 I remember holidays in Looe probably late 70s early 80s and waiting for the shark boats to come in around teatime. They used to come in with the sharks hanging from the back of the boats.
We used to walk around the indoor fish market on the quayside and I was absolutely fascinated by all the weird and wonderful types of fish and the massive size of some. Amazing memories ❤️ 👍
Thank fully the practice of killing sharks for the fish quay photos is a thing of the past. Impressive but very wasteful.
