"Don't be polite!!!" "By any means!!!" Gotta give the man credit, he was intent on IMPROVING the school, bottom line. Even Mr. Darnell, the young teacher he kinda picks on at the beginning of this film, grows to develop a mutually respectful relationship with Mr. Clark. As for the "We are not in church!!," Ms. Barrett's remark, don't matter whether in church or in school, this man was intent on making a difficult situation better. Rather than blame Mr. Clark for expelling her son, she may have considered giving some thought to how to help her son find a different path. This is one of the few films I can watch a number of times, and not get bored.. A true inspiration...
I agree. Whenever "individual responsibility" is preached they run for the hills. If you fail in life, or at anything, "don't blame your parents, don't blame anyone else, blame yourself. The responsibility is YOURS!" That is just a great life lesson, and it makes you an accountable one at that.
Yes I think I read somewhere that they had different last names but it would totally fit in that Mrs Barret would be the biggest parent complainer about how kids are bad & need to get dealt with only to be the hypocrite that she is and blame joe Clark
A wise man one stated that in order to save the majority, you will have to sacrifice the few. I agree with what he did. Why? Some of those children didn't care about education, and they are taking up space. This is what happens in the real world when you don't cut the mustard. Not to mention there are many good workers that get cut back, so why should I feel sorry for the space eaters and those who are a distraction.
We need more principles and teachers like Joe Clark. I love this movie especially this scene "That is why I threw those bastards out, and that is all I'm gonna say" LUV IT
This speech is what draws me to poetry. The way words are formed to cut yet, inspire all in the same delivery. How powerful this was. Great work from this cast.
How do you know she DIDNT raise her kid? She's upset at the fact that Joe Clark wants to lock up a school as IF there was no bad people already within it. Like that rule was just overall stupid.......
You have to remember Joe Clark was not getting the same resources that the suburban schools were getting. he was low on funds, manpower, and support. he did what was absolutely necessary to get those children through. The bad news is the same things he was fighting against all those years ago black Schools still have to fight against. few things have changed.
When I heard that man says " my son ain't a bad apple " I assumed his son were part of of the group that got dismissed. Well had he stepped up to the plate and handled his business properly as a father his son would not have been dismissed in the first place
Yeah, these so called parents are so blinded by ignorance and stupidity, even denial in the fact they are part of the problem why their stupid good for nothing kids were expelled from school, because they failed their job as parents and took no responsibility for raising them right. Why bother having kids in the first place if you refuse to parent.
I love this movie. It's sad that many people have no pride today. They love living on food stamps, WIC, and any other free program. I grew up in the projects myself and said from a young age ,"not me". When I first started out, I was the sole income earner in my home with 2 kids. I could have easily gotten food stamps. But I wanted to make it on my own. I lived within my means and budgeted my money. No cell phone, no satelite, very few luxuries. But my kids had food and health insurance. Today I do well and I'm proud that I made it on my own.
@@sitdowndogbreath I do thank him. But my success isn't because God made it happen. He let it happen. It was up to me to make the right choices. Too many kids don't study, don't want to learn, go to school to hang with friends, then suddenly in the real world they are upset that their job sucks and jealous of those who because successful. They hate rich people believing that all rich people became rich because they were born into it. They don't care that many rich people started with next to nothing.
My wife is a high school teacher and she was complaining about some of her students she can't reach. She's very passionate about her job but it is getting harder and harder to discipline kids or get their attention, but it's mostly the parents fault. They are getting harder and harder to deal with. I mentioned this movie and told her they needed a Joe Clark in their lives. She had never seen lean on me so I showed her this scene and she started to cry.
Brandy W. THIS ONE id actually vote for. He wouldn't be constantly looking for an apology for something from 200 years ago. He preaches personal accountability!
If I was there, I would have said this to the woman (mind you, I've only seen this clip; I have not watched the entire movie). "How many years does your child have to stay back for you to understand that their priority is not school? You say the kid needs help and that they deserve to stay in school, but if the child is showing they clearly do not care one bit about learning, then at that point there's nothing a teacher can do to help them. YOU have to help them as their parent, even if that requires you having to stay up late after work to make sure that they understand everything. If you are not willing to do that, well then the end result will be that your child is out in the streets, because it's not fair to students that actually WANT to learn to have to put up with their behavior and class interruptions."
BRAVO! These are the words modern parents need to hear and why they need to take personal responsibility in raising their spoiled brats right instead of blaming someone else for their own faults.
Joe Clark.........: "I have a great idea Mrs. Barrett. Maybe you should follow your son around school all day long to see what kind of student he really is? Maybe you should ALL follow your children around school for a whole day just to see what they're REALLY like? Hell, walk through the halls of the school on your way home tonight. The GRAFFITI alone will make you cry".

That is the biggest lie that the Democrat party has been spreading.
Percentage of all welfare recipients who are white: 38.8%
Percentage of all welfare recipients who are black: 39.8%
Blacks make up 14% of the US population, but 39.8% of welfare recipients.
Whites make up 77% of the population, but only 38.8% of welfare recipients.
So stop listening to lies from the Democrat party. Do your own research.
@Slim Pickens You can't dispute the numbers.
If you have other figures, provide them.
This is the type of educator every school needs.
Joe Clark vs. Political Correctness, and guess who won here.
Joe...
Miss Jennifer Banks Joe
Joe won of course... As far as the movie goes Mrs. Barret is definitely a democrat
jaque smith Joe Clark Doesn't Take No Shit From Anybody
@@Dee_Nice89 that's how u run a school in the inner city or u will fukd over
"Don't be polite!!!" "By any means!!!" Gotta give the man credit, he was intent on IMPROVING the school, bottom line.
The responsibility is YOURS!"
That is just a great life lesson, and it makes you an accountable one at that.
Something tells me that Mrs Barrettes son was the guy who beat up Kid Ray in the cafeteria and Joe knocked him out before he put chains on the doors!
🙁
WOWEE
YOWEE
ZOWEE
That has been brought up, but they had different last names.
We never found out who her son was
Hahaa. You need to pitch some scripts to Hollywood man. That's brilliant.😂
Exactly!
Payton Da Great that logic sounds like it came from Spock.

We need more principles and teachers like Joe Clark. I love this movie especially this scene "That is why I threw those bastards out, and that is all I'm gonna say" LUV IT
"My son ain't no apple !" HAHAHA
He said bad apple lol
sitdowndogbreath of course he's got a bad as sperm
Lmaooo
This speech is what draws me to poetry. The way words are formed to cut yet, inspire all in the same delivery. How powerful this was. Great work from this cast.
It is such a crime that Morgan Freeman did not win an Academy Award for this movie. Such a powerful, amazing performance.
Agreed.
He wasn't even nominated.
Lynn Thigpen's character is the perfect example of a parent not taking accountability for failure of raising her own child.
How do you know she DIDNT raise her kid? She's upset at the fact that Joe Clark wants to lock up a school as IF there was no bad people already within it. Like that rule was just overall stupid.......
This movie had such extraordinary acting, especially from Lynne Thigpen and Morgan Freeman -- despite the lack of awards.
"...and, he didn't say Joe be polite..." I love that line.
The Chief wanted Joe Clark more than she wanted to catch Carmen SanDiego. My 90's babies know what I'm talkin' about!
Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
Carmen started running when she saw Mrs. Barrett getting angry
I wonder if Mrs. Barrett and her supporters would be singing the same tune if they spent one day watching the way their kids acted at Eastside
TheMightyThor83 very good. I wondering too.
They'll either b soft on them or do nothing about it
MR Clark needs to be at every public school I guarantee you test scores will rise and schools will get 5 stars ⭐️
Only public schools?
"An I gave my word to God!"
"That's why I threw those bastards out"
"An that's all I'm gonna say!"
Joe Dropped the Mic... LMAO!
he didn't said Joe, be polite
The look on Mrs. Barrett's face at the end says it all... "It's on, now." 😄
You have to remember Joe Clark was not getting the same resources that the suburban schools were getting. he was low on funds, manpower, and support. he did what was absolutely necessary to get those children through.
The bad news is the same things he was fighting against all those years ago black Schools still have to fight against. few things have changed.
R.I.P. Lynn Thigpen, you were one amazing actress.
Watched the warriors for first time last year, recognized her instantly even if i couldn't see her face.
That was the original "drop the mic and walk off the stage" moment. I don't blame Joe Clark. I would've thrown those bastards out, too.
We need so many Joe Clarks right now.
That's right more schools need principles like Joe Clark someone that has guts to stand up to the board of education teachers and staff
...and some of the parents.
3:17 - 3:23 - Best way to end a meeting like that.
mm hmm, thumbs up!!
"Thats why I threw those bastards out....AND THATS ALL I'M GOING TO SAY!!!"
Drop the mic Mr. Clark. 🎤
We need more principals like Joe Clark today
Where in the world is Carmen San Diego was one of my favorite shows....
After 5 seconds of her talking, where in the world is carmen san diego to mind. I'll never forget that voice.
Yep, that's her.
Lynn Thigpen
The Chief got owned by Easy Reader from The Electric Company
When I heard that man says " my son ain't a bad apple " I assumed his son were part of of the group that got dismissed. Well had he stepped up to the plate and handled his business properly as a father his son would not have been dismissed in the first place
Smooth Bro Yup...
Like the guy said above, people who know full well their damn kids are problem children and don’t give a fuck
Haha....I know right, it is sad situation though.
Today I do well and I'm proud that I made it on my own.
then thank god because he is on your side apparently.
+Matthew Miller I was addressing troy, sorry about that.
Anyone who is on welfare can only go as far as that government check will allow.
Teachers and principals of this day can only wish to be as great an educator as Joe Clark. This man was a boss👨🏿🏫
God rest, and bless, her soul. Wonderful lady, and gifted performer.
“and he didn’t say, Joe be polite”
Boss Mode Activated
We need guys like mr. Clark in our schools today💯
No bad students. Only bad teachers.
He is a man that did what needed to be done. We need more like him.
And we need more supportive parents
JOE CLARK FOR PRESIDENT 2016!!
Great idea another black president.
Brandy W. THIS ONE id actually vote for. He wouldn't be constantly looking for an apology for something from 200 years ago. He preaches personal accountability!
William Connell okay
Brandy W. You mean after Bill Clinton?
Smith Jones No I mean another one after Barack
Morgan freemans best performance in my opinion. He was just incredible in this film. Can't count how many times I've watched.
Perhaps maybe his 2nd best. Shawshank it's his best...
Gotta be Morgans greatest performance. What a great story and Movie
" and he didn't say, Joe be polite!"
Great line
" and that's why I threw those bastards out, and that's all I'm gonna say" hAha go joe
When he said "I heard the thunder roll"I wanted somebody to say "y'all better listen to him"😂
I love the way Morgan Freeman delivers the line - “and he didn’t say, Joe be polite!” 😂😂😂
Can I get a Amen
Hana Tenshi she would have stopped listening to you long before you finished all that.
Truth Probably, but worth a try 😂
BRAVO! These are the words modern parents need to hear and why they need to take personal responsibility in raising their spoiled brats right instead of blaming someone else for their own faults.
Hana Tenshi Yes..Indeed..they just don't even know how to keep their own education because they just do a lot of drugs and school violence right?
when Clarke when Church mode. had me crying laughing, he really didn't wanna hear what she wanted to say
cause she wasnt talking bout shit
"He don't care they ain't his kids"...lmao

Everytime i hear the words “bad apple” i remember this movie because of the man yelling, “My son ain’t no bad apple!” 1:04. Makes me laugh everytime .
Joe didn't care what you think of him he wanted the school to be safe for positive students even with his brutal honesty
2:03 “We are not in church, Mr. Clark!!”
We are now! LOL
Joe Clark.........:
"I have a great idea Mrs. Barrett. Maybe you should follow your son around school all day long to see what kind of student he really is?
Maybe you should ALL follow your children around school for a whole day just to see what they're REALLY like?
Hell, walk through the halls of the school on your way home tonight. The GRAFFITI alone will make you cry".
Alexandra .Willitts Yes!!
+B pi p for in sh HB
Alexandra .Willitts Mrs. Barnett should make her kid her boy study at night give her boy some pride and tell to set his priorities straight Instead of doing drugs and school violence and etc.

She's a tremendous actress.....Ms. Thigpen....and of course, Beverly Todd is stunning.
I wish there were more Joe Clark's this day & age!! RIP to the real Joe Clark, your legacy will live on.
"We are NOT in church,Mr Clark!..."
Go back to church, Barret and tell your son to beg like a bitch to get back in school; worked for Sams.
LOL I wonder which child was hers, that got kick out of school.
Christian Edwards the one that came back, beat up Kid Ray and tried to stab Clark
Mr0902256 Yes..that's dare right about the son of Mrs Barret's when beating up on Kid Ray and also tried to stab on Clark with a switchblade but he punched Brain Baines's face with knocking him down then told the security to get this disgrace out of the school before ordered the security to chained 27 doors to keep out drug dealers but he's not allowed to do that because of the fire code department.
J-Guy Yes..I know..before he told the security to chained 27 doors to keep drug dealers out but he's not allowed to do that because of the fire code department..
“My son ain’t no bad apple!” 😂🤣
We need more Joe Clark's in our Schools even today.
Between Glory, Driving Miss Daisy, and Lean on Me, Morgan Freeman was on fire in the late 80’s.
My junior year, my English teacher showed us this movie. That speech got us riled up and as soon as he said "and that's why I threw these bastards out..." The bell for the next period Rang and we exploded into cheering and yelling. It was the perfect storm.
I still remember a few of my boys chanting USA, USA, Down the hall like we had just witnessed Hogan taking down the Sheik after we herd that iconic speach.
Mrs Barrett was so motivated by this speech that she went on to become the chief at Acme Crimenet fighting a neverending battle to catch Carmen Sandiego
They sure don’t make inspirational movies like this anymore. RIP JOE CLARK 👏🏽👏🏽
You know whats funny when the lady said we are not in church. He ignored her and continued to preside over a rebuking service
LOL
In such a short speech, he has spoken more truth than other corrupt and selfish politicians and irresponsible parents. Clark should have ran for Presidency; I'll bet that he'll be able to clean up and fix America way better than any other recent Presidents could.
Definitely! I'd taken that Joe over the Joe we currently have in the WH.
You can't tell me Morgan Freeman didn't play that role. He is one OUTSTANDING ACTOR. 1/8/2021
I'm a white 50 year old man. this motivates me weekly.
I've worked in school districts of all grade levels for a decade. Kids are always, ALWAYS a reflection of the parenting in their homes. Always, always always.
@DL261
Really she's pissed because he insulted the black football coach, while the school is so bent and corrupt that it's overrun with gangs and drug dealers. She needs to get her priorities straight
Her son was one of those drug dealers too I think.
There are a lot of Ms. Barrettes in Texas where football is king and they would raise hell if someone threatened their team
This is pure gold. I can't believe I can't find this scene in HD
