    Thank you for this updated review on how you've enjoyed shooting with the A7CR. I was wondering, have you ever thought about doing a video on the camera and the settings you use or recommend using? I'm still trying to get comfortable shooting with this camera but I often find myself struggling in accessing so many of the settings. Also, I love seeing how photographers I look up to shoot with the same gear. Cheers and greetings from Vancouver, Canada!

    IMO the biggest drawbacks are the 1/4000 shutter speed and EFCS, I'm surprised you didn't mention this at all. I don't mind the lack of joystick because I usually focus and recompose in continuous mode with the small center focus point.

    Hi jerad
    I am ben from notjustagency, we talked about a collaboration on a video about a tozo camera. now i saw the package has been received. when will I expect the first video draft?

    I don't see any reason to get a compact camera and not use compact lenses. The leases are the biggest and heaviest part of the system and having a small camera and large leases makes everything front heavy. Take 3 lenses and the difference between A1 and A7cr is negligible.

    Haven't noticed the battery drain you describe here. Maybe try going airplane mode for a bit to see if it's related to that?

    • @jeradcamera
      @jeradcamera  2 місяці тому +1

      Yeah, I think that is the culprit. Will have to either put it in airplane mode or forego connection to the phone altogether.

      This unit is definitely on my list for the future. How did you find the EVF? I understand it’s a little less than it’s big brother.

      @@troytinsley148As Jerad mentioned, the EVF in the corner is a huge plus, especially with street shooting. I use the unblocked eye to see what’s coming into frame before it gets there, plus I don’t smudge the LCD with my big schnoz. The lower EVF resolution is not a big deal for me, but what is a big deal is the light leakage, especially on sunny days. I bought a 3rd party eye cup to better seal the EVF to me eye, which does the trick.

    To me. the biggest pet peeve is the subpar EVF and the image on the screen. They both do not even come close to showing how the real image looks like. Admittedly the pictures will show a very pleasant dynamic range, but not via the EVF or the built-in screen.

    Loving mine. Battery life unfortunately is kind of meh compared to my other Sony cameras .

    That higher Megapixel vs low Megapixel low light performance is rubbish talk. DP review and others have proved that the higher Megapixel sensor does out perform the lower Megapixel sensor performance at night guaranteed.

    I like the design with the EVF in the corner very much, but the EVF has too low resolution and too low magnification, it lacks a joy stick and the back side screen is too thicl so the camera overall is too thick, the shutter is only 1/4000 and only with electronic first curtain. In Europe the A7CR is much too expensive, right now it is US$500 MORE than the Sony A7RV ! So I will wait and see if Sony makes the A7CR II better.

    • @jeradcamera
      @jeradcamera  2 місяці тому +2

      An a7cR II with a joystick and higher resolution EVF would be great. I don't mind 1/4000 because I have ND filters.

      Same, I would love to purchase the a7CR but in Australia it’s only $200 less than the a7R5 so it doesn’t feel like a good deal. Whereas the a7R5 launched here at $6k and it’s now $3k, would love a small compact camera but the R5 just feels like better value for money.

      @@katemaleny I have the A7RV which I got on a very good offer this summer, it is a very nice Camera and the A7R is not so compact if you mount the grip, I am very happy with the A7RV, but I do wish all Sony Cameras had the EVF in the corner.

    • @cameraprepper7938
      @cameraprepper7938 2 місяці тому

      @@jeradcamera I never use any kind of filters. It is not that the A7CR "only" has 1/4000, it is more the electronic first curtain that I do not like. But the shutter with 1/4000 is also cheaper, so with less goos shutter, less good EVF, less good IBIS etc, then the A7CR is much too expensive, at least in Europe.

    Mine by coincidence arrived this afternoon. It was with some trepidation that I saw this video had dropped into UA-cam while I was waiting for the battery to charge (not good that Sony provides a battery with absolutely zero charge, no charger nor any cables with which to charge it). Fortunately I was aware of the downsides, and relieved not to hear anything that immediately leads me to think I have made the wrong choice. I am looking forward to using it, as the successor to my much loved but ageing Canon M6 II. I bought the 20-70 lens to go with it and have a Metabones adapter on order to use some of my Canon lenses with it.

      You will love the camera. Just get an extra battery.

      @ I have done just that. I ordered a pair of batteries from Neewer, with a charger. I have used Neewer batteries for years, with my successive Canon series 5 cameras (I have had every one of them (but not the R5II - yet) and still have the 5DIV and R5), with no issues whatever - they are better than the hugely expensive Canon batteries. They arrived today. Having charged the batteries and inserted them, they seem to work fine, with no error messages. Certainly a whole lot cheaper than Sony’s own batteries.
