- Today we look at my first VBM Domobar JNR compared to the latest 2021 model
VBM consistently produce valued equipment with the brand well known for the quintessential quality of flavour and high performance each machine will deliver, including the heat exchange Domobar Junior.
Magnetic side panels, in a variety of colours, fix to the machine or can be easily removed and customised to suit any design and environment.
Control all settings via the digital touchpad interface including temperature adjustments, ECO mode, and to set a desired boiler pressure.
This display is also home to the shot timer, appearing once the brew lever is activated and just one of the guides incorporated in the Junior. A functional colour guide beside the display indicates the boiler pressure level, presenting green when optimal pressure available to produce dry and powerful steam.
The new and beautiful Vibiemme Domobar Junior was released at HOST Milan 2019 and employs a 1.1L Heat Exchanger boiler for simultaneous shots and steam along with the proven VBM e-61 group.
It’s well suited to coffee lovers who who wish to produce milk based and espresso variants. Analogue and Digital variants have been released.
The Digital Model is equipped with a digital PID display for temperature adjustment and stability, as well as a count-up shot timer.

To be honest, I really prefer the analog dials. So much of our lives is digital, its nice to slow down and have the visual of the analog- while playing a vinyl record!
the domobar junior 2B is amazing, smaller than a MaraX, but dual boiler! Easy to mod with a PID, sometimes they pop up used for reasonable prices.
I really appreciated you saying that the difference in taste was minimal. So often we hear how much better the newer machine is at producing a "sweeter, juicier more full bodied espresso". This has the effect of instilling "upgradeitis" in many espresso enthusiasts....including myself. I've had my Salvatore HX machine for almost 15 years and recently began toying with the idea of getting a new machine. And that's fine as long as you realize the espresso might only be marginally better than what you are currently drinking. A new machine for the sake of just having something new and different is fine too, just set your expectations accordingly.
My first machine and such a workhorse.
For the price at the time of purchase it was one of the best compact units on the home market considering it was filled with commercial grade parts
I still love my jnr! Had it for about 13 years or so now. How did you upgrade to a cool touch wand? Appreciate any guidance there. It seems like the next step up from mine is around the Linea Mini kind of price range. Hard to want to upgrade when so many new machines are app enabled. I have had so many different phones and apps in 13 years.
I have the vbm digital. I’m having a problem. My timer is on 10 seconds before my shot hits the cup. I’m new to this machine so I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong! Loved this video!
Is the eco mode on the new domobar only found on the digital and electronic domobar? Do the analogs have some way of switch to a standby or low power mode?
eco mode is only on the digital. apparently it has an auto off after 2 hrs
So the new model saves less power? Got it.
Dishwasher safe means PLASTIC! What a shame such a great company!!! Deal breaker!
I don’t like to handle hot metal drip trays. The plastic is durable and insulated.
I have an issue with my vbm domobar jr
Shots are totally inconsistent
Example
I weigh 18 g and extract 36 g in 28 sec "dialed in"
Next shot i weigh 18 g and extract 36 g in 15 sec
3rd shot it is 20 sec and it repeats randomly and my shots are akk over the place
Although i use the same beans which are fresh 1 or 2 weeks from roasting date
I do WDT and distribute and tamp with a calibrated tamper
I tried 3 top grinders k plus - eureka mignon - df64
I tried not to tamp to just distribute
I tried a manual tamper
I tried changing the dose in the portafilter
Nothing works
The digital has a PID
