Vintage MOTU Panthor Saddle and Eye repair - Toy Polloi
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 гру 2020
- I was recently given this vintage Masters of the Universe Panthor and it needed some work to get it displayable. The saddle strap was missing so I needed to make something from scratch and both his eyes had worn away making him look less that scary.
So time for some quick repairs to get him ready for battle, and ready for Skeletor to ride him into battle against He-Man.

Man, that elastic strap is a great idea. I think it actually looks better than the original strap and I'd wager it's a good deal more secure.
It is nice a firm. I don't think Skeletor will fall off again 😃
loved the motu figures as a child, especially skeletor. All of mine from childhood are long lost but I recently decided to start collecting.
Thank you for what you do for us Toy Polloi!!!!
Honestly the original eye paint jobs are all over the place, much like Castle Greyskull paint jobs. So they look great.
I made my Panthor strap from a loop of black art paper and fixed it with double-sided sticky tape on the belly. Works like a charm too.
Always thought it was a bit strange that they didn't glue some plastic eyes onto him rather than painting the flock. Think you did a better job of the eyes than the original job Dave. Nice job.
You are a good dude. We all owe you thanks . Happy Christmas xx
Great stuff! I was only looking for replacement straps the other day. I've still got my school shoe laces holding both my Battlecat and Panthor saddles on since the early 1990s. Kind of nostalgic charm so I'm reluctant to change them XD
wow the original panthor
I think I prefer this saddle strap over the original. It seems much more functional.
I would tend to agree. Easier to put on.
Same, did that for cost I'm sure
You always put a. Positive vibe out there in your videos, thanks for bringing joy into the world.
Merry Christmas
Thanks. Have a great Christmas yourself.
That fix looks very good. I was looking for a way to fix my panther saddle.
Glad I could help
Who knew the intro was pure Sapphire and Steel?
Brilliant video as always, just noticed how big the rider is compared to Panthor itself, I think the size difference in the animation wasn’t as much but still just me. Take care and look forward to more great content.
A flocking great repair! 😉
Merry Motu Christmas Dave
2 of my favorite villains.
Just painted the eyes filmation style on my origins Battlecat. Also painted his maw around his mouth and nose
Maybe its the fact that I never had MOTU growing up but man this looks so much more premium and nice.
The new intro is unforgettable. Way to go Sir Dave. It made my day.
You know? As soon as the vid started, I was going to suggest elastic if you didn't use it. But you were already there. Great easy fix. One thing I would suggest is..... If you have a local "The Works Publishing" and look at the art section. Loads of sets of cheap brushes for about £2 to £3 pounds and very fine points. But again you have probably already done that. When I had a job I got a lot of them all various sizes to paint my wargame minis. Also crafting tools and knives are in there. So great fix!
You've showed us in the past how to make some basic scenery. How about kitbashing together a 'cloning machine' (in the style of MOTU) to go with your Skeletor army? That would explain why there are so many, and might make for an interesting video. :)
Awesome Dave! And cheers
Thanks again. More to come from the box of goodies soon!
This intro, certainly puts a smile on my face.
More amazingly easy fixes! Thank you Dave, and Happy Holidays!!😃
Thanks Dave. Looks flocking brilliant! 👍
Very nice fixes. And quite easy to do. Thanks Dave.
You can paint the Strap to match use some Craft Acrylic Paint Mix in Some Texile Meduim
Lay the Elastic on some Masking Tape to hold it and paint the Elastic
With Cottin Bud
Great video as always. Can't go wrong with Panthor... Great fix!!!
So the thing is the saddle belt has been known to cause the flock to wear off over time in places the belt and saddle rub, so even tho I have the belt I chose to leave it off.
For the eyes, I used a watered-down black to blacken out the eye socket and then used a lime green on a thin brush for the iris, I also blackened the end of the nose ever so slightly think it looks much better.
Great job as usual ! Happy holidays!
Thanks Dave🙂
Quick and easy fix for a really nice panthor. They're usually in worse condition. Have a Merry Christmas Dave !
This channel helps me out alot, thank u very much.
He is the toy guru.
So simple and yet so great 🤷🏽♂️
Merry Christmas everybody 🎄🎁🥶
I fixed a couple of figures today. It's one of the most cathartic things a person can do.
I would love to see a panthor flocking repair or complete re flocking. I have tried an failed several times. It is impossible to do CORRECTLY with out at least $600 worth of flocking equipment.
Nice one Dave.. and Happy christmas!
Nothing wrong with the way you made the strap worked out well, I was gonna say as soon as you painted the first eye I was thinking cool he looks a lot more evil but you said it in the video, very nice
Yep yellow look good! Elastic that's what I'd do!
There are green and purple elastics available on ebay too..
I wouldn't say it's a shame, I'd say it's an improvement.
can you do a restore of the flocking on Panthor???
Great video for the saddle repair. Would really love to see a
reflocking video. There is only one that I have found, but I would like to see one by you. I think there are probably several others that would as well. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the videos.
Noted!
@@toypolloi I appreciate that, and thank you for responding to my comment. I don't have a spare vintage Panthors, but if someone wanted to donate either the money to purchase the flock, or the flock be itself. How would they go about doing that. Or anything else for that matter.
There are links in my banner and about page for various ways. Panthor is one I get asked about so he is on my list to grab the next one I see. Toy fairs are about to start up again here, so I will see what I can find. I do have a video coming up on Battle Cat. That's just been filmed and will be along in the next couple of months. Cheers
Are you familiar with the dragon beast that were made by Imperial back in the early 80's? There were made to be used with Master of the universe or maybe Remco figures. I had one, it had an orange saddle held on with a zip tie, that how they were sold. Great video , cheers
Can't say I am. I'll have to look that up. Cheers
Anyone know where I can get replacement saddles? I just got a panthor with nearly perfect flocking but the saddle was missing and I don’t want to pay the prices vintage ones go for.
Hi,I would like to restore the flock and I don’t know the brand to use.Do you have some infos about it?Cheers
what kind of acrylic paint would you recommend for repainting vintage starwars figures
Watch my videos on repainting Sta Wars figures as I cover it all in those. Cheers
Great job as always!, what do you think of the line of masters of the universe origins? I think they are great toys for the new generations and that retro look with the new articulations are nice, I bought He-man and Skeletor and they display good with my vintage ones, I'm thinking in getting the ones I don't have in vintage
Videos coming on that soon. Just filmed the first one today. Cheers
I think his eyes were glow in the dark paint.
Also you should have painted them white first.
Wow!
Just have to ask: Did you ever consider using velcro on the strap for the sadle?
By using that, it could easely have been open and closed.
And I have to say, the figure looks so d@#n good, great work as usually =)
Dave, the first thing that came to my mind as a possible replacement when I saw the missing strap is cable tie velcro strap - i.postimg.cc/nhDN1Y4w/Velcro-cable-management.jpg
It is dirt cheap, you can cut it to size (usual size is 20cm x 15mm) and comes in all sorts of colors (green, yellow, red, white etc.). That way armor would be easily removable and with green velcro the color would match nicely.
I've been looking for Panthor for a long time, but unfortunately I can't find any in good quality. In most cases the fur is very worn.
That is a very common problem.
Your eye paint is pretty much what you'd get from the original. Maybe a bit cleaner even.
Thanks. Its pretty hard to paint on flock. So when done quickly in a factory I'm sure they came out pretty random.
So they just painted over the flocked parts for the eyes? A bit of a weird design choice, but not the weirdest I’ve seen.
Girth strap ;-)
If you ever wanna fix the flocking, try powder for "velvet nails".
Have you found the right color for Panthor ? Can u send me a link of what u r talking about, thanks.
@@JC-bl8by I bought a set for "velvet nails" at amazon which is no longer availabel and not link-able. It's only in my order history. It was with 25 colors and had 4 different purples. As advice, don't use glue, glue just eats up more of the original flocking. I just used purple model-paint and put the flocking on the wet paint.
@@JC-bl8by The color does not match exactly, but I like it better than with the holes in the flocking. www.planeteternia.de/grafiken/userfiles_forum_2018/317116.jpg and www.planeteternia.de/grafiken/userfiles_forum_2018/317137.jpg
Malaysia Panthors are so much nicer than the Taiwan ones
When I went to Walmart I found some original classic he man figures that look like the ones from the early 80s
I'm beginning to think you have it out for Spanish-speakers.
Why?
@@toypolloi Just having a bit of fun at the pronunciation of Vallejo - not trying to be rude, sorry. :P
Ah right. Now I understand 😃
I just say it how I say it.
I can’t sew
So I just use gorilla glue
In all honesty the original plastic saddle belts sucked, never liked them, too darn rigid.
