You are so amazing! How long have you been playing piano, I've been playing for a very long time but I'm not seeing much improvement in my playing. Do you have any practice tips?
Thank you! That means a lot! It'll be 13 years in a little over a week now :) and I have a few that took me a little while to learn. A metronome, regardless of how annoying it can be at first, is definitely your friend. I rarely practiced with a metronome for a really long time, and joining marching band and having to use a metronome almost always helped me improve on rhythm and timing a lot, and I'm glad I learned it can help :) the other thing is don't tie yourself down to anything! When I was first starting piano I did nothing but classical music because that's what my teacher taught me to do, and I never learned anything else. There was a time when I wanted to quit lessons, it felt like j was doing the same thing with a lot of frustration and little improvement, but that's when I started experimenting with different sounds and different genres. I started teaching myself how to play songs I liked to listen to from bands. I would look up the chords for the song on ultimate guitar
tabs and then I would learn the melody of the song by ear. I taught myself most of the scales and started making my own music. Playing what you want to be able to play is I think a helpful way of improving, especially since the motivation to play what you want is far greater than someone telling you to play something :) and my last tip is don't give up. It sounds cliché, but persisting is extremely important with stuff like this. I've had times where I've tried for huge periods of time to try and get something down and it just won't happen. And I get some sleep and wake up the next day and keep trying, and slowly but surely it improves. Hopefully these things help :) don't give up piano! It's a great thing to have, trust me :)
