Good question you could always stop at Ayutthaya to break it up abit as there is some interesting history there.

We have been on day trips to Ayutthaya when we lived in Bangkok, but did stop into some random towns which I forget the names of, one had a small train you caught to top of the temple a few hours our of Bangkok, some old palace and a town where you could do the horse and cart rides a couple hours out of Chiang Mai. But most of the time we didn't stop much as it is an over 10 hour drive if you are doing it comfortably.

Hi! Thank you for the video! I’d like to ask..do you know whether buses use the same road? Is it always on the highway or is there any road that would be more dangerous, like on the mountains or something similar? Thank you!!

My understanding buses use the same highway. But go first class buses as they are more comfortable. There is the train which my partner Ann has caught but go first class too just for comfort. Of course if it’s in the budget. It is one big highway Bangkok to Chiang Mai
