One of my tips is to cut a piece of wax paper about 5 in x 5 in and put my Vaseline in the middle of it, then fold it over carefully and place it in a small Ziplock bag. It saves the weight of the jar and is far less bulky. I do the same with cortisone cream. I also make an evening bag with my sleeping bag liner, ear plugs, shorts for sleeping (I also wear one of my hiking shirts), my head torch, and a lightweight paperback book to read. When I get to my bed in the hut and get out my evening bag, it is a nice way to settle down for the night. I hiked the TMB in 2021 and 2022, staying in huts all the way. Wish I had seen your video before I went!
Thats a really good tip, very smart! We do the same with the evening bag haha! Glad you liked our video! Any cool adventures/trails planned this summer?
I like the shewee + the Kula cloth. Sometimes trails can get quite busy so squatting is still hard to do in privacy. Plus you dont want poison ivy anywhere close to down there lol
That views, I watched the video too, it was breathtaking. I love that you guys make a gear list, aimed for women! I usually go with guys gears, but that's because I'm tall and those bags, etc fit me more, but I love the fact that we get a little more focus now to both gender from your channel. HOW ARE YOU STILL BELOW 1k??? Your channel is soooo good! Please keep doing these videos, I enjoy them so much! Some questions : 1. How often did you take showers? 2. Did you not bring deodorant? 3. Why have you bought the waterproof dry bags inside the rucksack? Is not the rucksack waterproof itself? Also, would you still recommend dry bags if our rucksacks are waterproof and we put an extra cover around it? 3. How can women tackle menstruations during the trail? Any advice? Thanks for this video, as I learned many things and noted down some tips that you provided.
Great questions. We will answer them in the same order: 1. I had 2 real showers during the TMB. And every evening I washed my face etc in the bathroom. The shower on the starting day and the last day not counting, because that was in AirBnb's and hotels off the trail. In each hut we were was an option to shower. Some with a coin system, and some without. So if you want you can shower every day. The huts do appreciate short showers because of their water system. 2. I didn't bring deodorant. Deen (my partner with whom I hiked the TMB) did bring deodorant. It's a personal preference, I am not so smelly even after a long day of hiking and sweating. I did wash my arm pits every evening with a bit of soap. Maybe this is gross for some people, but most hikers do smell. So yeah, I don't worry about that too much 3. My backpack is water resistent! So not waterproof. I did bring a waterproof bag for my backpack to protect my camera gear and my sleeping clothes. That way I am 100% sure my PJ's and camera/drone stay dry. If your bag is waterproof and you have an extra cover with you I would recommend a waterproof bag for inside your backpack. For my hikes in Sweden I did bring a waterproof bag with rain cover and that's perfect! 4. I try to avoid hiking during the first two days of my menstruation to be honest. My lower back hurts too much. If I absolutely can't avoid, I bring a ton of painkillers. My personal preference is the use of a menstrual cup. I don't have to refresh that as much as tampons or pads. Also, I stop at literally every hut or restaurant to wash my hands and clean up. Especially on the TMB that's at least 3 times a day, so for hygiene-levels you don't have to worry on that trail. Does this answer your questions? Let us know! We/I am really happy to help. And super happy to hear that you learned a lot from the videos. Your questions help us a lot as well for creating future content. Thank you!

I am working on my pack list for TMB this summer. It's a bit heavier, since I can't really afford all the ultralight stuff, but overall very similar! As women specific packing goes: I have two sports bras with me to be able to change in the evening (with my large chest no bra is not an option), I also like to hike in leggins without waist seams, because any seams around the hip bones hurt under my backpack belt. Maybe a weight reducing tip for you: I bring a very thin plastic comb that only weighs about 10g. :) And also women specific, I need to time my period with my birth control pill to avoid having it on trail. But still I always carry a few sanitary products and a trash bag just to be save. ;)
Nice! The gear is expensive, indeed. I started with heavier gear as well and whenever I needed to upgrade something, I saved up for the ultralight ones.As long as you like, trust and use your gear, go with whatever is your best choice! Finding the right legging is a real treasure hunt, right? Haha. I always need them to be super high, so the waist band and my backpack belt aren't on the same spot. Learned that the hard way unfortunately.... That's a good tip! I am still looking for a lighter hair brush. The small coms are just not the right thing for me, since I can't get trough my hair with them... Maybe I can search for an in between comb/hairbrush. Thanks for the tip! SAME!! It's always a big puzzle to plan a hike around my period... Good to hear that I am not the only one having this trouble. Hope you will enjoy your TMB adventure! When are you going exactly? And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
@Hikaholics I have seen girls take the rubbery bit with bristles out off those oval hairbrushes and just carry that. I have short hair so don't need anything
Hi, loved your videos. Learned a lot and took notes. I am still not sure about what rain jacket I will bring. Poncho, OR Aspire or maybe the Frogtogs which is new to me. I noticed that you were able to put it over your pack. What size did you have? Since it is a bit big, I think it could be useful to put my small down jacket under when it is cold. Unfortunately, I will not be able to try it, because it is not sold in Canada. Also you made me discover the Bridgedale socks and since I also wear Altra, they will be very usefull in Canada. Tks and have nice treks.
Hi! Thank you! We really love the Frogg Toggs. I'm wearing a size Large, that's why it fits over my backpack as well. Right now I'm trying the size M to see how it compares. We buy Frogg Toggs at Amazon, maybe you can try it over there as well? Let us know, curious to hear your findings. Glad I could help you find Bridgedale, they are game changer for sure! This tour looks amazing! Do the Bridgedale socks not make your feet sweaty? Have heard of them before but not tried. Bought Rab Powerstretch pro before winter and have been living in them since, even off trail 😂 also use a cloth although not Kula. I bring some sort of cream for the end of the day because my skin can feel dry and tight which I'm not sure a guy would pack. Great video thanks!
The TMB is absolutely amazing 😍😍 There are beautiful views literally everywhere. Can’t wait to explore the mountains in NZ as well… The socks don’t make my feet sweaty! There is a layer of merino wool in it and they are breathable, so that helps a lot. The leggings are amazing right haha? Loving them. Love hearing your feedback on the packlist. It’s a great tip to bring some cream, I could have used it on the TMB. The sun and wind were harsh for the skin. Thank you so much for your lovely comment ❤️

I’m going on the TMB hike at the beginning on September and have most everything. My issue is that I sweat A LOT…like I’m just coming out of the ocean after a hike. All season. My clothing, my sock and inside of my hiking shoes. I will be in huts along the way. How do you carry wet stuff until they dry? I desperately don’t want to overpack and carry new clothing for each day.
Hi! Sorry for the delayed answer, we were on vacation in Norway. I know that in most huts there are dry rooms. Where the heating is on and everybody hangs there stuff to dry. Some huts even have ‘drying closets with pins’ for your shoes. Not sure what they are called, but that way your shoes can dry quickly as well. During the day I dry my stuff at the outside of my backpack so the wind can blowdry it. Maybe you can look into the kind of fabric you use? Merino wool for instance dries super quickly. Hope this helps!
Hello, I am starting to think of my TMB pack list for July 2024. This video really helps a lot, thank you! However, we are hiking hut to hut. Any insight on what the pack list should be like for a woman TMB hiker in a hut-to-hut scenario?
Great video! I am a mom of 63, taking my daughter next September, I am very fit, so that is no problem for me. I have a question about "tinkling" on the hike. I am well versed in this wherever I travel, but being in exposed terrain and the hike being so popular, how does a female "tinkle" along the way. Same with another female issue as well. Is there a piece of equipment that e can use to shelter us from view from passers by? I thought about bringing a poncho so the "tinkler" can have privacy while leaning against a rock. Thank you on any suggestions. Oh, Since we are from the US and travel overseas every year, we pack extremely light, sometimes just a backpack for our journey's and we have found a product that beats carrying any bottle for shampoo or body wash. It is from LUSH, they are body and shampoo cakes. Amazing items, and only a baggie to store them, as they get littler there is no bulk to carry. By the way, we love the Netherlands and my daughter always says, she hopes to marry a dutch guy some day!!! Thank you again for the wonderful video! Happy trails to you both!
Hi!! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It means the world to us! So cool that you are going to hike the TMB! I hope it will be as magical and magnificent as our experience. Although the trail is pretty popular there are lots of spots where you won’t see many people and there you are fine to tinkle 😉 I am a shy public pee person myself haha, so I often tried to find a quiet spot on a side trail. And that was super doable! Lots of trees or rocks to hide behind. When the area was more exposed, I ran forward, squat, and Deen will stand guard for me and hold back people (when necessary). That only happened once. But most of the time it was possible for me to go to the bathroom in a restaurant or mountain huts along the way (which are mostly free to use the restroom). Multiple times per day you will pass a hut where you can go to the bathroom. And that also answers the sun yes toon about having your period on the trail. I had mine during the TMB, and I refreshed in the bathrooms from the huts along the way. What helps me as well, is a period cup. That can hold longer than tampons, so than you can definitely walk from hut to hut and refresh there. I hope this answers your question! Don’t hesitate to ask more questions. I am more than happy to help ❤️ Ps: I hope your daughter will find a lovely Dutch partner ❤️❤️ I love my Dutchie by my side 😛 maybe you daughter will find love in the TMB 😉
@@Hikaholics , thank you for the advice. I am good at "tinkling" quickly have had lots of practice, I will pass along the other "advice" to my daughter. Glad to know there are huts along the way to use quickly as well as towns. I guess I still can't get my head wrapped around how the trails run, but with my new guide books I will understand. As for the Dutch guy's, yes, I told her perhaps she can meet someone on the trail and even Dutch!! Thank you again and enjoy your future hikes!

Do all or most of the huts supply blankets and pillows? I purchashed a liner but was not planning on packing a quilt. Also camp/indoor shoes- Do flip flops count? what did you wear inisde the huts when you werent wearing your hiking shoes?
Hi Samantha, Great questions! All the huts we have been on the TMB supply pillows and blankets (tbh all the huts in Europe we have been do that). So a liner was all we needed, just for hygienic reasons. Not sure if the liner is still mandatory tho, but it's my personal preference to sleep in one. Yes! Flip-flops are super convenient to bring with you. Some huts do provide hut shoes (like crocs), but I notice some huts didn't on the TMB. (In Austria they all provide hut shoes, so I am a bit spoiled). Next time hiking the TMB I would def bring flip-flops as hut shoes. Hope this helps! If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask!
Hi ! We are going to tmb in one and half week, thé weather report in charmonix says thé température will be from 11-26c. I see u packed à lot of shorts and sleeve tank top, but our guide asked us to buy long sleeve, trousers and gore tex. Is it gonna be hot or cold ? Thanks !
We always bring a long sleeve (fleece/windstopper) and a waterproof set of clothes. Weather can be all over the place in mountains so best to be prepared. Enjoy your TMB!
Thank you so much this video. Can you please tell me why you used Rennie? I’m going to do Mont Blanc this August, and I always have gas in my stomach due to high elevation. I’m hoping Rennie will help. Thank you so much.
Hi Leslie, thank you for watching our video. I always have stomach problems on the trail, indeed gassy and after dinners I have stomach acid. The rennies help reduce the acid for me. The website of Rennie says: For the effective relief of acid indigestion, nervous indigestion, heartburn, upset stomach, uncomfortable bloating, biliousness, flatulence, painful trapped wind, and indigestion. So maybe the Rennies help for you too!
Hi Cynthia, great question! I always bring a down or synthetic jacket. No matter the weather conditions. It's an essential layer, especially during the evenings the temperatures can drop. Sometimes when we were at high elevation (like at Bonhomme or when we crossed the border on high mountain passes), the wind was intense. So when you stop there to enjoy the view, I was super grateful for my down jacket. And the weather in the mountains can change in a second. Like for instance hail storms, or thunder. Better save than sorry in my opinion.
Hi Ginny! Great question. No, I don’t sleep in them. I have a pyjama with me (my thermo / merino wool clothes). And no, I don’t wash them. Embrace the smell 😛 I do wash my underwear and socks and let them air dry at the outside of my backpack during the day
Is your mummy sack the silk one? And same question on deodorant….did you bring it? Also, did you wash out the Kyla cloth nightly? Underwear nightly? Maybe a “what we did each night at the Refugio’s” video would be great for us who haven’t done this yet!!!
Such great questions Rachel! This really helps us for future content: 1. My mummy sack is indeed the silk one. The tiny blue bundle. It's from cocoon and it's called a mummy liner. I do wash my Kula cloth every single evening. With a bit of hand soap which is available in the huts. Most huts have dry rooms, where there is a heather, so the stuff you wash, will be dry the next morning. 4. Yes, I also wash my underwear each night. I bring two panties, they are made from merino wool which is more hygienic and less smelly than regular cotton. On top of that they are quick drying. I also sometimes wash my underwear in the morning, when I know it will be sunny. Then I just hang my wet panties on the outside of my backpack to dry during the day. Does this answer your questions? I am really happy to help, and those questions really help me/us to think about future content, because some things for me are my second nature and I don't think about what to do with my undies for instance. So thanks so much for those questions. Have a great week Rachel!
@@Hikaholics super hard bedankt. Ik heb die injinji sokken geprobeerd op een lange wandeling vandaag in België met gevulde rugzak en ben fan :-) Ze hebben dezelfde zachte stof als Bridgedales, wat tot nu toe mijn favoriete sokken waren. Hey! That’s amazing! We were hiking hut to hut as well, so this pack list should be perfect for you. Enjoy planning the TMB!
I am more than happy to help ❤️
Ps: I hope your daughter will find a lovely Dutch partner ❤️❤️ I love my Dutchie by my side 😛 maybe you daughter will find love in the TMB 😉
Great tip about the cakes from lush! I use shampoo bars from lush at home, but they stay super wet while backpacking. So thanks, I will try the cakes!
@@Hikaholics , we usually wrap the cake in a tiny piece of cloth to help it dry out, so far it has worked.
@@kayaker9912 great!! Have you watched our hour long video about the TMB (all stages)? There we have pinpointed a lot of places/huts/restaurants along the way. Maybe that video will give you an insight about the trail as well, together with your guidebooks.

❤ Thanks for making a girlie version. How did the Frogg Toggs hold up in the rain? ☔
You're welcome ❤ The jacket holds up like the best! Still my nr1 rain jacket
Do all or most of the huts supply blankets and pillows? I purchashed a liner but was not planning on packing a quilt. Also camp/indoor shoes- Do flip flops count? what did you wear inisde the huts when you werent wearing your hiking shoes?
Hi Samantha,
Great questions!
Do all the huts provide Blankets & pillows ???? Do I need a sleeping bag
Hiii so how heavy was your pack (without camera gear) ?
Hi! Around 4,7 kg. You can check my packlist and all the weights here: lighterpack.com/r/ujgw8c
Hope this helps?
Going to do about 60 miles of the TMB in July. Do you think I need a down jacket or will layers and fleece be enough?
Hi Cynthia, great question!
I always bring a down or synthetic jacket. No matter the weather conditions. It's an essential layer, especially during the evenings the temperatures can drop. Sometimes when we were at high elevation (like at Bonhomme or when we crossed the border on high mountain passes), the wind was intense. So when you stop there to enjoy the view, I was super grateful for my down jacket.
And the weather in the mountains can change in a second. Like for instance hail storms, or thunder. Better save than sorry in my opinion.
so you ware the same clothers for the trip , do you wash them & sleep in them
This really helps us for future content:
1. My mummy sack is indeed the silk one. The tiny blue bundle. It's from cocoon and it's called a mummy liner.
So yeah, I don't worry about that too much
@@Hikaholics super!!! Thanks!

@@Hikaholics super hard bedankt.
Where is your Sleeping bag ??
We didn’t need to bring any since we were sleeping in huts. Only a liner is okay then
To be clear, you guys didn’t bring sleeping bags? You just used the bag liner?
Yes correct :)
That is amazing news! Thank you!
