I recently purchased a hardcover book, copyright 1920, it has a coating of shellac to the outside boards themselves, and judging by the appearance of the book, very fine condition, it looks like the shellac was applied soon after purchase in 1920?
It seemed to work beautifully, but strangely enough, I can't find any information whatsoever on the internet related to applying shellac to hardcover books to protect them?

I seen this video in the search engine when i searched cardboard lamination. i was looking for someone who tried to fiberglass cardboard to see what they feel about their end product. I haven't found any videos on that, most people just fiberglass wood. But Tech Ingredients has very interesting information on composites and etc... that you can take in almost any direction, because he is very detailed in explanation.
But my ideal was to laminate cardboard to itself, and then laminate the fiberglass cloth to it using epoxy or polyester resin. I bet that would be strong and beautiful looking end result too. i said something here because it is similar to the result you got from shellac, it will be very hard surface adding strength to the pieces. I am looking for a way to use cardboard for structural(load) purpose.

This is great, I too am on the lookout for materials I can replace my aluminum sheet metal with. Wood veneer, vulcanized fibre and cardboard comes to mind.
Also looking to increase stability in cardboard for cheap. My idea was to soak it in wood glues and press into shape, like one would do with metal.
using epoxy resin is something I am not fond of, it will be sturdy no doubt but I want to use systainable materials.
