Hi Yooperland1, Thanks. The video was kind of fun to make. I ended up doing it because the local dealership wanted some serious coin to do the job. Thanks for watching.
Great instructional video I have a 2012 GL1800 that I think I will do my own air filter change at 24K though the manual said change at 12K which I think is ridiculous... after watching ur video somehow I don’t trust a dealer doing this... gives u time to clean all the components also 👍
Thank u so much for the detailed video, I have the exact bike but I dont think I'm going to attempt this after watching this, I have watched your other videos and saved very much by doing it myself, i guess the money saved will be spent at the dealer to change the air filter! Lol. This is just to involved and shame on honda engineering , this is ridiculous!
Hi Robert, Glad you liked it. Glad the other videos helped out also. Yeah, the filter replacement is a beast of a job. It would be worth asking the dealer or shop to save your old filter so you can check it out and it's also a good way of knowing that the shop actually changed it :) The honda engineers should have put in a filter trap door so it would only take 5 minutes to replace. Thanks for watching!
What an awesome video. Thank you so much for the instructions. My 2015 Goldwing had a few different connections but your video covered 95% of the install. Thanks again
It looks harder than what it really is. The air filter is probably the hardest maintenance item to do. Everything else is easy. For example, an oil change takes 15 minutes. The bikes performance is really really good. Our group goes on 10 day bike trips each year and the F6B has worked perfect. Anyway, thanks for watching.
Researching if I should buy one of these F6b's and I like to do my own wrenching... albeit that is a lot of work! Tremendous video. Thank you. So not a deal breaker but nothing like the air filter on a GSA.
Hi Wildbillsgarage, They're great bikes. I've had mine for four years now and it's never had an issue. Most stuff is pretty easy except the air filter. Thanks for watching!
Nice video used it to change my filter took my time marked all screws was pretty easy just a little time consuming. Thanks for the video it was very precise.
Very cool. Good job. I went slow to. It actually took me a few days to figure out the process. The hardest part for me was taking all the wiring connectors apart.
Great video's. Does the panel pop out on the right side where you have your heated grip switch? I have a 2013 non-deluxe and want install a 12 volt power supply there. Thanks Steve.
Fantastic video sir!! 🙏. Thank you ever so much. I will be tackling the job on my 13 F6B soon. I have 40k on her, just changed my motor oil/filter and shaft oil. New tires, first air filter replacement on her 🤫 im positive shes over due. And like others i don't t want to pay $300 to have someone "maybe" do it 😭. But know I can go into the job with confidence when i have a day off to patiently do so. My only question is "WHY HONDA, WHY?!?! 😢
Yeah. Why honda why lol. I think they designed the bike around the filter. You'll probably find out that the filter looks pretty good unless you're doing a bit of dirt riding 😉
Going to attempt to change the filter. Just had it done two weeks ago by a dealer........felt really uneasy about the work actually been done and the old filter changed. My bike still is very sluggish and after watching your video, I wonder if they really changed it. Cost $267 to have it done,if they did it at all. If my filter looks like your old one,I'll have my answer. Thank you for the video.
So, what you have demonstrated is that the Honda assembly line starts with an air filter and they assemble the entire motorcycle around it??? Sort of like the heater core in a car...
Great Video, perfect camera angles & professionally edited. The only reason you don't have "likes" from every watcher has more to do with how frustrating they are from finding out that you need 2 days & a mechanical degree to change the air filter. Did you mention how many miles you had on your bike when you made this video. I'm interested to see how long i can put this job off for. Thanks! I just read yo had 30k on your bike.
Good Morning Don, Thanks. Fun video to make. Your right, it's a pain to do for sure. The filter didn't look that bad even at 30k to me :) Thanks for watching.
Huge help! Thank you! I will have to do this soon as I just bought a 2014 F6B that's never had its air filter replaced. BTW, can you offer any tips on how to remove the side cover at the rear so I could check and see where the preload is set on my rear shock? I opened up the right saddlebag, pulled back a little on the plastic cover for the preload valve but I was only able to peel it off half way, then it seems that the metal tip over bar is getting in the way. I'm not sure how to remove this plastic panel without damaging it.
Hello, Not sure on the brand. It came with the bike. I think it's the stock rack. I looked online real quick but couldn't find the exact same one. Here's a ebay web link that has some different versions. Some look pretty good. I want to share my experience with k&n air filter, it seems to not fit properly into the filter housing. I had a filing that if I put on the cover it may not be sealed as it should, so I went to Honda dealer and got a oem filter, fits perfectly and cost the same $ as kn. So I would definitely go with oem, specifically keeping in mind how much work this is😄
nice to see someone else brave enough to conquer this!! you seemed to have the leaset trouble on getting that first connector off with the needle nose pillars then any other videos, gives me hope, I have 25k on my filter an prob going to be changing soon. how many miles did you have on that filter? Thanks for the video!!
Thanks. That connector is really tricky to get apart. It took me a little while and then I tried the needle nose pliers. It probably took me roughly 10 minutes to just get that connector apart. Those little speaker connectors are hard to get apart also for some reason. Maybe because I have 10 thumbs. I ended up putting in a speaker upgrade kit from J&M since everything was exposed which I did a video on... I had about 30K miles on the filter. I thought it would have been dirtier because a group of us rode through Death Valley during a sand storm last summer which lasted about 45 minutes.
@@bgrides2108 good information thanks, I hear people put a lot more miles on it than 30, yours was kind of dirty, better safe than sorry for sure after that ride! LOL . Yeah I saw your video on the speakers, can you tell a huge difference? Hey again if you really are thinking about putting some LED lights on, it would probably be the easiest thing you've ever done, check out my video, I think the light kit was only about sixty bucks and it was perfect for our F6B, everything just fell into place and all you really have to take off is the side panels and the seat. I love my lights! If you can't tell, plus if somebody gets you mad at night you can flip on the blue lights strobe LOL
“And, uh, that’s all it takes to replace the air filter.” Two hours to take it apart, two hours to put it back together, and you wrap up with “And, uh, that’s all it takes to replace the air filter.” You, sir, are deserving of a meme. I’d like to see you do a video about the history of building the Panama Canal: “It cost $639,000,000 (in 1914), cost thousands of lives, took 10 years and three months, and, uh, that’s all it takes to dig a ditch.”
Well done video. Gave me some confidence that I can tackle this job on mine too! Curious how many miles was on the bike when you did this. I'm not sure what the interval is but I only have 5k on mine.
I typically change mine at about 15k but it can vary to more or less frequent based on the conditions of the roads you ride on. For example, if you ride in an area with frequent road construction and more than average dust you should consider changing at 10-12K.
Hi Anthony's West Texas Rides, Good point. Felt like they designed the bike around the air filter :) Kind of like the A-10 Warthog. Thanks for watching!
Hi Brad Hodges, That's for sure. The dealers make good money on the replacement. I was worried that they wouldn't replace it and just take the money so I decided to give it a try. Thanks for watching!
Hi Great Dane, Thanks. Just did some research on youtube and other websites. I have a manual also. I'm not the best mechanic, but if you take your time it's not all that hard. Just a lot of steps... Thanks again.
Wow those little side panels at the back are a pain to remove! I wanted to pull the one on the right side of the bike to have a look at where the preload adjuster for the rear shock is set, it's a 2014 that I just bought three weeks ago so I don't know how it's set right now. I started by opening the right saddlebag, then I carefully pulled the back part of that small plastic panel, it started to come out but then I couldn't go much farther because of the u-shape tip-over bar and the top of this plastic panel is wedged under the seat. It appears that the only way to get to the preload adjuster is by removing the seat too!? This just doesn't make any sense, I must be doing something wrong.
Oh and what a CRAZY amount of work to replace that darn air filter, luckily I don't generally log a lot of miles in an average year, so this job won't have to be done all that often.
Holy Gods!! I came to the comment section to see if this was a fracking SNL skit! Could it be any more complicated to change your air filter? Why not put it behind the damn timing belt to make it that much harder, honda. I thought changing the filter on my 99 Valkyrie was a pain, but this is crazy! LOL!
I have a ‘97 Road King with a Stage IV package to scoot around locally and a 15 F6B for the longer highway rides. Two very different rides and sounds. Love both of them and do just about all of the maintenance on both.
Hi Rod, Yeah. It's the one maintenance item that sucks for sure. But all the other stuff is pretty easy. The bikes ride incredibly well and so reliable. BMW are sweet also. Thanks for watching.

Great instructional video I have a 2012 GL1800 that I think I will do my own air filter change at 24K though the manual said change at 12K which I think is ridiculous... after watching ur video somehow I don’t trust a dealer doing this... gives u time to clean all the components also 👍
Hey Xstrada1, I gave it a try because I'm cheap :) Didn't want to spend the money and decided to give it a try. Thanks for watching!
Hi Brandon, Glad it helped. Great bikes, but boy did they make it hard to replace the filter. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for all the help😊
Happy to help. Glad it was useful.
OMG May rethink my purchasing a Goldwing F6B !
Awesome video.... covers all front section removal. Thank you for taking out time to create this video.
Thanks. Those air filters are packed way in there.
Thank you very very much from Finland.
Hi Iso, Sure thing. Glad it helped you out. It sure is a hard filter to replace. Would love to come and visit Finland some day. Thanks for watching!
Thanks it went very smooth
Hey Gary, Glad it was helpful
Thanks for the information
My pleasure. Hopefully everything went smooth and ya saved a little 💰
Great video's. Does the panel pop out on the right side where you have your heated grip switch? I have a 2013 non-deluxe and want install a 12 volt power supply there. Thanks Steve.
Hi Steve, Thanks!! glad you found your answer. :)
Awesome video - thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great job, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Robert, Yeah, I've heard of some dealers saying they changed it but actually didn't.
So, what you have demonstrated is that the Honda assembly line starts with an air filter and they assemble the entire motorcycle around it??? Sort of like the heater core in a car...
LOL!! To true, to true
Mouse in the house , thanks for the video , seems as though mice 🐁 love the air box 📦 😳‼️
Dam those Mice!! Grad the video helped.
Huge help!
Check out the video at roughly 2:15 into it. I think these are the panels your talking about.
Hello, what luggage rack are you using? great videos by the way!!
Hello, Not sure on the brand. It came with the bike. I think it's the stock rack. I looked online real quick but couldn't find the exact same one. Here's a ebay web link that has some different versions. Some look pretty good. Glad you liked the video. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Luggage%20Rack%20Honda%20F6b%20Goldwing&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-156598-763386-7&mkcid=2&mkscid=102&keyword=luggage%20rack%20honda%20f6b%20goldwing&crlp=693532473321_&MT_ID=&geo_id=&rlsatarget=kwd-370888020880&adpos=&device=c&mktype=&loc=9195141&poi=&abcId=9392799&cmpgn=21097936937&sitelnk=&adgroupid=157745124697&network=g&matchtype=b&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3bm3BhDJARIsAKnHoVUv4mCJEAL5upvjpphQdqs0PRI7fM4LZ3o48yX2lf07Czyq2e-qqkYaAg-EEALw_wcB
I want to share my experience with k&n air filter, it seems to not fit properly into the filter housing. I had a filing that if I put on the cover it may not be sealed as it should, so I went to Honda dealer and got a oem filter, fits perfectly and cost the same $ as kn. So I would definitely go with oem, specifically keeping in mind how much work this is😄
Hi Sebastian, Thanks for sharing. Good info.
very interesting I was wondering about these air filters. Hope you will test the "WISH" air filter.
Hi Kathleen Spears, I'll have to take a look at the "WISH" filters next time. Thanks for watching.
@@bgrides2108 Thank you so much for taking the time to answer! I will be the most loyal audience!
@@kathleenspears3952 My pleasure 😊
Very imfortive, much appreciated.
Glad it was helpful and thanks for watching!
nice to see someone else brave enough to conquer this!! you seemed to have the leaset trouble on getting that first connector off with the needle nose pillars then any other videos, gives me hope, I have 25k on my filter an prob going to be changing soon. how many miles did you have on that filter?
Hi 2old4allthis, LMAO. Very good point. You almost have to be some kind of rocket scientist to change the dam thing. Thanks for watching!
Well done video. Gave me some confidence that I can tackle this job on mine too! Curious how many miles was on the bike when you did this. I'm not sure what the interval is but I only have 5k on mine.
I had about 25000 miles on the bike.
I typically change mine at about 15k but it can vary to more or less frequent based on the conditions of the roads you ride on. For example, if you ride in an area with frequent road construction and more than average dust you should consider changing at 10-12K.
Awesome vide. Thanks!
Thanks for watching. Glad it helped. The dealerships charge a mint for this.
How many miles was on the old filter,,
Hi Chris, I think it was about 25,000 miles.
A 5/16 socket works on the air filter cover.
Hi 340rps, Thanks for the info!
They make the rear tire change process simple to make up for the PIA process of changing the air filter out! lol
Hi Anthony's West Texas Rides, Good point. Felt like they designed the bike around the air filter :) Kind of like the A-10 Warthog. Thanks for watching!
great video saved me $$$
Hi Brad Hodges, That's for sure. The dealers make good money on the replacement. I was worried that they wouldn't replace it and just take the money so I decided to give it a try. Thanks for watching!
Great video. What a job. How did you know how to do this?
Oh and BTW, thanks you so much for sharing how to do this air filter replacement chore, that is a HUGE help! So thank you for that!
Oh and what a CRAZY amount of work to replace that darn air filter, luckily I don't generally log a lot of miles in an average year, so this job won't have to be done all that often.
Could put a small amount of grease on the clips so they can come off easier next time
Holy Gods!! I came to the comment section to see if this was a fracking SNL skit! Could it be any more complicated to change your air filter? Why not put it behind the damn timing belt to make it that much harder, honda. I thought changing the filter on my 99 Valkyrie was a pain, but this is crazy! LOL!
LOL. To true 👍
Thought about trading my Road King for the F6B but after watching this for air filter I'll pass. Great patience.
Hi John, Road Kings are nice bikes. Probably takes 10 min to replace the air filter. Thanks for watching!!
I have a ‘97 Road King with a Stage IV package to scoot around locally and a 15 F6B for the longer highway rides. Two very different rides and sounds. Love both of them and do just about all of the maintenance on both.
@@juniorsmith7703 Nice. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds.
@@juniorsmith7703 Thats great! Im a bread baker and not very mechanical wish I paid more attention in shop back in the day.
Holy cow, I heard that it was a task to change, but wooow
Hi Victor, I Agree. I think they designed the motorcycle around the filter :)
@@bgrides2108 it almost seems like it. I really appreciate all of your videos on the F6B.
@@benfattovf Thanks. Any other vids you'd like to see that I haven't done yet?
@@bgrides2108 have you changed your light to LEDs? Adding the LED resistors and flasher relay would be helpful
@@benfattovf ok. Thanks for the idea. I haven't converted them yet. I'll have to start looking into it.
I guess I won't be changing the air filter!
I almost said that to :)
That's a deal breaker for me. Thanks for that I'll buy the BMW.
Hi Rod, Yeah. It's the one maintenance item that sucks for sure. But all the other stuff is pretty easy. The bikes ride incredibly well and so reliable. BMW are sweet also. Thanks for watching.
Wow that was EZ 🤣
Hi Jim, Felt like they designed the bike around the air filter :)
Show
Thanks
torture!
Yep
@@bgrides2108 great video
@@jamesbronson3347 thanks.
What a pain in the A$$ just for and air filter
That's the truth. Good thing you don't need to replace it that often. Thanks for watching!
Honda should be punched in the mouth for this.....Almost makes me not want to buy one now...You better be replacing anything that can go bad while your in there that far.....
Yeah. I'd agree. They made it hard for sure. It's a great bike other than replacing the filter.
