  • Beautiful arrangement of this Burton Lane / Alan Jay Lerner song originally used in "Royal Wedding" (I can't find who wrote the additional lyrics).
I never liked it in the film, but I love this version. Music arranged by Lawrence Yurman, orchestrated by Doug Besterman and Larry Blank. In stereo for the first time!
Open your eyes, there's a sapphire sky above us,
High above us, made for you - when you open your eyes.
Open your eyes, there's a carpet of jade around us,
Laid around us, all for you - when you open your eyes.
Let me show you the sights, take you on a tour
Of this great, new fabulous world we own, we alone!
So open your eyes, and you'll see how this momentary,
Ordinary night can seem more unreal than a dream.
This incredible night can seem more unreal than a dream.
We know that every problem can be solved by Dr. Freud,
And anyone who questions that is someone to avoid.
To diagnose a case, the protocol's in place,
No new, unproven theory may we use.
So keep those blinders on, ignore the clues.
But did you ever wonder if the world is what it seems?
The changes in our lifetime all began as crazy dreams!
Remember Jonas Salk? Neil Armstrong took a walk.
Now why is it sheer heresy to say,
    Tomorrow's facts are fantasies today!
If we stick to the status quo,
    Never challenging what is so,
We may find there's a cost,
    A chance we'll have lost,
To face what we don't yet know!
    Open your eyes,
Are there memories we keep within us, deep within us?
Secrets revealed, when you open your eyes.
    Open your eyes,
Are there new ways of understanding, worlds expanding?
All is revealed when you open your eyes.
Remind yourself: questions are never wrong.
Remind yourself: answers will make you strong,
If you're brave enough to hear what that answer may be!
    Open your eyes,
Why should any idea alarm you?
Truth won't harm you, it's a new day.
    Time to open your eyes!
Remind yourself: questions are never wrong.
Remind yourself: answers will make you strong,
If I'm brave enough to hear what that answer may be!
    I'm free!
    Open your eyes,
Why should any idea alarm you?
Truth won't harm you! Time to dare!
Can you feel a change in the air?
Could a new truth(?) be waiting there,
    When you open your eyes?

This was Jessie Mueller's Broadway debut. She won a 2012 Theatre World Award for her performance - and received her first Tony and Drama Desk Award nominations.

I loved the show, and she was awesome. Harry was actually the least impressive part of the show. He was mannequin like. I would have loved a cast recording since the music was great. I loved the song "Love With All the Trimmings" done only on a guitar.

+Robert Gold I agree - the orchestrations alone merited a recording!
