- "Within a Wall" is a short story by Agatha Christie, originally published in 1925. The narrative delves into the complexities of human emotions and relationships, centering on the character of Alan Everard, a talented artist. He is married to Isobel, a woman of practicality and strength, yet his true emotional connection lies with Jane Haworth, a sensitive and passionate artist. The story explores the tension between Alan's duty and his deep, unspoken feelings for Jane. Christie's exploration of love, sacrifice, and the often painful intersections of personal and professional life is both poignant and reflective, showcasing her ability to portray human psychology with subtlety and depth.

It's hard to know to whom to feel sorry for. I really enjoyed listening to this story.
Thank you for understanding...keep supporting.
This might be her best work and I wish she’d left more of these particular characters’ stories and mysteries to guide themselves and unravel again and again…
Now, in this universe peopled by the psychological depths, allegory, symbolism and peculiarities of the painter’s realm.
Or, perhaps a series from different perspectives and observations of the characters of this society. It’s phenomenal so far and the people are thoroughly believable and fascinating. I have not finished it, yet. I have no idea where it’s leading me.
Post edit: I’ve just finished it and it stands whole, self-possessed and entire unto itself. I know, as some singularly beautifully told stories do, this will live in my mind for years.
Thank you for sharing this, the reading was absolutely brilliant.
One ***spoiler*** must be pointed out:
For all of Allen’s self-righteousness and of his wife’s defective personality, he was to blame, as much as the monster he claimed for the same shallow reasons. We spin our own webs and then become astonished by being caught in them. We rail against each other, becoming more entangled and blame everyone but ourselves. In this story there is not one spider but, two.
That's a wonderful insight! Keep supporting
I am in awe of your beautifully written comment! I looked up your name bc I was intrigued, I wanted to know if you are male or female! (Google says gender neutral) I don’t know why but I reply to men in a different way but since I have stopped using my real picture, I don’t have to worry about men thinking that I am leading them on (something I didn’t think was possible on UA-cam before I got criticism for replying in a friendly way to a comment that I hadn’t even looked at the picture of… so the same pattern in my consciousness, (if we run away, we take ourselves with us and we recreate the same circumstances with different names and places but whatever is active in our consciousness will always be the same until we consciously change it, but not by resisting it, whatever we resist persists!) always having to be careful that I am not too friendly to men incase I am accused of leading them on or having ulterior motives, is repeating even here! But I think that is how life is, whatever we focus on, becomes more and by the time we are conscious of something it has already gathered momentum and then we are aware, then we can choose to focus on the solution, and that means gaining momentum of attention on the opposite or the desired outcome that we only have clarity about because of the contrasting situations we become aware of! Lessons are repeated until they are learned!
I don’t know why I am saying all this but when I write, my subconscious uses it as an opportunity to show me what I would benefit from knowing. So forgive me but I am in a situation where I don’t feel that I have privacy to write in a journal right now….
I digress, this is the reason for my replying to you! I thought what you wrote was beautiful! Genuinely well written! You definitely have the soul of an artist and could be as successful as a writer as an artist, but it depends upon your passion and you or one in general doesn’t have to restrict oneself to one career only in my opinion! I was curious about the last few beautifully written sentences and how you interpreted them!?
Forgive my babbling on, it’s late in London and this comment is way too long! Best wishes and I know you will be successful in whatever you do! 🙏

LOVE AGATHA AND WHAT A WONDERFUL NARRATION.THANKNYOU SO MUCH FROM ATHENS GREECE ❤❤❤❤❤❤
We're glad that you are here. Keep listening. Keep supporting. Spread the word, so, everyone can enjoy this!
Wonderful narration. A breath of fresh air! Thank you.
Wow, thank you!
Can I be nosy and ask what you meant! What happened at the end in your opinion bc it was so beautifully written with metaphors so I wasn’t sure if what the thing u didn’t see coming was what I think it was! Sorry it’s in the middle of the night in London and I woke up and put this on to get to sleep, so I’m confused and maybe it’s obvious! If you don’t reply I will listen again when properly awake! Lol 😂
This was a wonderful story, beautifully narrated, but utterly spoiled for me by at least 8 advert breaks! 😕
I have to agree with you whole heartedly. Such a shame the powers that be say the advertisments are for us to have a blah blah blah! I have looked everywhere for some button to turn off the advertisments but have yet to find one. It all boils down to make more money for whoever owns UA-cam now. It is really rather sad.
I pay ten dollars a month and have no ads. UA-cam does pay creators pretty fairly so I think this is correct. You are choosing to pay by receiving ads.
@@georgelmiller48124 I use the 'Brave' browser, this blocks all the ads.
@@christabedwin as I understand it, creators make very little money from the ads. I understand that it's the price we pay for content. In a story that's 45ish minutes long, I can accept one or two ad breaks, but the number in this one was excessive. That's the point I was making.
@@christabedwinmany creators made more before Google bought UA-cam. And that was with fewer ads. Big corporations are just greedy.
Well Done!!!
Ms. Christie described the many psychological horrors of British social class about as well as any.
True that! We're glad you like it. Keep listening. Thanks for your valuable support.
An unusual Agatha Christie. Some one dies a natural death.
Wow! Didn’t see that coming…😳
There were no ads when I listened to it.
great
A terrifying story
WOW
Is the digitally generated bit the narration? I’ve been noticing on some narration odd language glitches that sound like the narrator is not sense making or understanding what is being read. Eg., read spoken incorrectly, it can be ‘to read a book’ (reed) but can also be past tense ‘I have already read that book(red). It is leading me to conclude that the narration is computer generated, is that the case here too?
We understand your concern. We assure you that it is not AI-generated. We have curated a collection of audiobooks read by people and added them to our inventory so our subscribers have an unparalleled audiobook listening experience.
Ruined by ads. I lasted 4 minutes. Sorry. I know it's not your fault but, when they start this early, they tend to become repetitive.
Sorry for the in-convenience....
I'm at a loss for words. Thank God Agatha wasnt.
We're glad you liked it
Hahahah. Thank God indeed!!
Exactly
Creepy story.
I have a problem listening to women's voices. Actually it's not so much a problem; more like an upgrade.
ua-cam.com/video/PVNar1MEl4I/v-deo.html The same uploaded in male voice....Enjoy and don't forget to comment your experience.....
destroy the flesh to get at the soul... sounds communistic to me.

Well if that is a.i, it’s very good compared to some! They are very distracting altogether but I think that when you re-listen to the last few beautifully written lines, it becomes clear that only a human could have read that! Maybe (unfortunately) in the future ai will have different settings for different moods etc! Blessings from London ❤
