    I have the 24’ AT4X with the AEV front bumper and the high OEM running boards. It has everything I need in a truck for Colorado. I got it for $71k in April. Already have 17,400 miles on it. Hands down the best 1500 I’ve ever had. Owned multiple 1st, 2nd and 3rd get Tundras and a 21’ King Ranch F150. Nothing compares.

    How serendipitous, I've been using my Thor's Lightning 4 tire air up kit for about a year and have loved it! But the funnier part is I planned a snow wheeling adventure for today, about 2 weeks ago, I ordered their programable compressor where you can just punch in the pressure and walk away. It showed up this evening AFTER I got back from the snow and I was literally opening the box while watching this video having no freaking clue they were a sponsor for this video haha

    I have a ZR2 Bison and I paid way less than $88K. It’s a great truck and I’ve added a camper and some suspension work. As I understand it, the DSSVs can handle the weight (but do not work well with any kind of further lift) and since the rear is just leaves, you can build that up for the added weight without messing up how the DSSVs work. My experience so far is that the ride quality, driving experience and towing capability (well, flat-towing anyway) all feel the same with me fully maxed on payload and flat-towing a 4xe Wranger (8K miles so far since most of the work was completed). The only negative is that it uses a ton of DEF, but the dealer has checked everything and I’m within spec (especially considering the load) and nothing bad seems to be showing up in the codes or operation of the Duramax. Still trying to decided what to do about the tires, but it seems that larger diameter with similar width work fine, so will probably go with that at some point. As an owner, I can tell you that I lock up early and am willing to scrape, so it’s really been remarkable how capable this truck is, even with the camper. I don’t get the little plastic pieces on the bottom of the sides of the rear bumper, though. These seem to get banged up almost every time I go off-road. Seems an odd choice on a steel bumper that’s designed for protection, but I’m sure there’s a reason. Overall, as long as you’re willing to use the protection, I think this truck is great and I’m very happy with mine.

      Do a search for Demonworks here on youtube.. he covers the 3.0L Duramax extensively.
      Apparently Towing just makes this Duramax engine drink DEF fluid.
      But I love my Duramax in my '24 ZR2 Silverado.. traded in a '23 ZR2 with the 6.2L and have been grinning ear to ear.
      Perfect engine for the ZR2.

    One thing I have never understood in a truck designed for "hardcore" offroad, why do they have the rear shock mounts hang so low and so far in instead of closer to the wheels. I would think mount the shock on top of the axle.

    • @FenomeSean
      @FenomeSean 5 днів тому

      It needs the shock body to be long enough for the suspension travel. If it were on top the axle that length must go further up (into / thru the truck body)

      Totally agree with you. I have a ZR2 with the 6.2 gas engine and tow at the max rating with it every time I go camping. The 6.2 is much quicker accelerating loaded or unloaded than the 3.0 and there are times when that matters a LOT.
      I have driven a similar truck with the 3.0 diesel and it's alright but I will happily pay a little more for fuel and get a much higher level of performance. The one thing everyone talks about with the diesel is fuel economy but when all is said and done over the course of a year or more the cost between the two is not as dramatic as some would have us believe. Def is a big part of the diesel operating expense because they use so much of it now when they are working hard. Oil changes are more expensive etc. I'm keeping my 2022 6.2 it has been flawless so far and I work it hard sometimes.

Granted it doesn’t have a available diesel, but it can certainly do anything this truck did in this test, plus it has just as many luxury features as this truck, and it is at least $10,000 or more cheaper, not to mention that it can double as a work truck when you need to tow 10,000 lbs to places where most any other truck would never be able to go.

      The PW has a payload that's actually pathetic for a "HD" truck and it's longer wheelbase is a huge disadvantage compared to short bed 1500s. It's also way heavier. If you want a genuine offroad truck there's no 2500+ that's better than a stock offroad 1500. And I'm not sure the 6.4 is safely towing 10k lbf in any area where most other trucks can't tow, ie tough offroading environments

There is a width issue that is a limiter based on the design of the suspension, I believe. I have yet to change out the tires (11k miles so far), but will likely go with their suggested size (they both had the same suggestion). Technically they are parking brakes now, they have been for a while.
      Fears are fears tho, I get it. I'm horrified of being eaten alive for basically no reason lol.
      But it's not going to happen. Brake systems are cross split (L front/R rear and R front/L rear.) so if there's a failure, you'll still have at minimum half power. Modern cars also have sensors monitoring brake fluid levels and warn you before you get yourself into anything. Parking brakes will also still engage in an emergency, even if it's just a button. It goes to a separate, usually mechanical, actuator and brake the rear wheels.
      In an EMERGENCY emergency too there are other options to at least slow down. You can downshift, rub on guard rail/wall/cliff face, even other cars or whatever you have. The sooner the better. Obviously it will damage things but so will crashing. So.

    As far as tire size, I just checked GMC website. The vehicle comes factory with a two inch lift and it has those nice tires. I think they are 32 or 33 inch. Which is actually fine if you still want to be able to tow. It has over a 7k LB towing capacity. When you get into 35" tires and plus, you could start losing towing capacity and or vehicle stability.

Frankly if you're legitimately doing off-road stuff that requires things like a front locker then you're going to want/need skid plates and a place to mount a winch. And you're buying the GMC because its got more luxury, that's pretty much it. It doesn't do anything more off-road a ZR2 Bison couldn't.

    You guys said it……being worried about the almost $90k truck. How many people do you guys really think are going to take their new $90k truck off road like you are doing? Unfortunately, probably many of them will not be rock (or trail) crawling.

    Also one of the best things about the GMC as opposed to the Chevrolet is Chevrolet has that big fugly black piece of plastic on top of the hood that gets in the way of any type of vision. Not to mention it makes the whole truck look cheap
    The GMC on the other hand has a proper hood on it

    The way I see it ,if GM claims it's a great off road truck and charges $80000+ dollars , they made it , your reviewing and previewing it for its honest abilities, so if u damage something from improper mechanical or off road abilities or even accidental from driver damages GM CAN AFFORD TO REPLACE as such ANY big Manufacturing company

      @fj400007 Місяць тому

      @bobcoats2708 not with the present options available where basic mechanical components are considered options and all the electronics are pushed to make it look expensive. I just want a solid version of the 1500 pickup where every gadget becomes an option. Just like a tractor or even a sxs, the base vehicle has all the mechanical advantages, and you can add all the optional features you need.

    What a coincidence(or not)that TFL just buys this sisters vehicle. Yet, instead of driving the same thing with a slightly different badging, you run this. Making the follow up video with the Chevy sister running this trail now redundant. Albeit your 2025 sister has no locker and no AEV protection, but it has KO3 tires. Your dad should have bought this instead of the other GM sister truck. lol

    I would take a Raptor over this any day. RAPTOR has more hp and tq more suspension travel by a LONG shot including articulation bigger tires just as many skid plates fromt and rear recovery hooks. The only thing better about this truck objectively is its not as wide and has a front locker, but also remeber the raptor can be equipped with a torrsion front diff as well.....

      Lol, my buddy wanted to go hunting at my rural property and we took his GMC AT4 to fill up the deer feeder. We have to drive down a trail to get the feeder. Well we ended up having to lug 50 lb bags of feed down hill to the feeder because he didn't want to take his pavement princess GMC down the trail and risk getting pinstripes lol. When I take my Jeep I can drive all the way to the feeder and not have to lug the feed to it 😔
