Hey, great vid! I just purchased the Nextbase 422GW and thought about the Rear View Camera. Now I’m going to pull the trigger on the rear view camera. Thanks for posting!
Great footage Paul, i've just bought the 422gw but not yet fitted it. I was thinking about the rear face camera and you have convinced me it's good. I have the 32gb microSD card, is that large enough for both the recordings or should i get a larger one please?
Brilliant. I wasn’t sure whether to buy the plug in rear view attachment cam. Or, a rear cam. Seems the rear view attachment is perfect. Cheers for a good informative video. 👍🏼
Does anyone know how this particular option (attached to the actual dashcam up by your interior mirror) works if the car has fairly-dark tinted rear windows from the factory i.e. privacy glass? Would the footage be totally compromised or is it acceptable? And would the optional cam that sticks to the rear window be the same or would it work any better in that case?
I have just fitted the Nextbase 622GW with the same Rear View Camera you have. I used it for the first time today and I would say your rear view footage looks a tiny bit steadier than mine. I’ve attached my setup to the windscreen using the suction cup until I’m happy with the location then will go to the 3M sticky pad. What have you used in this video to attach your set up to the windscreen? I’ve seen in another review where the reviewer seems to think the footage was more steady when using the sticky pad.
I'm trying find a good spot for the rear view camera but haven't been able get the whole back completely, do i need to use the adhesive attachment? , I have the 522gw one.
@@PaulMaloney Did you stick with this config or go for a separate camera on the rear screen? The one on this video is more than adequate to record tailgating morons or/and idiots using hand held phones, and anything more serious. Did you have any issues locating the camera so as to avoid it being blocked by the sun visor?
@@SaxJockey Still kept with this rear view camera and for most of the time it's fine (very rarely have a middle seat rear passenger). Can't have the sunvisor down in the front with the current placing of the front camera so need to fix that at some point.
@@PaulMaloney Yes the visor is a problem with this type of rear facing camera, but for the most part it works well does the job...most days in the UK do not require the sun visor down 🙄. I have the 222X which has a similar rear facing camera, works fine (222X lacks GPS/WiFi/Alexa).
Hi Elton, yes it’s the rear facing plug in module, you can see more information in my unboxing video (ua-cam.com/video/two7JjlV9Qg/v-deo.html). I’m quite pleased with the results so far. Got some different settings to try so keep an eye on my channel.
@@PaulMaloney hi paul iv just got the cabin vue camera add on but it seems to be crashing and recording to freeze.when plugged in I just get a small oblong box.is it supposed to show the rear on screen?
I just got one of these and your video is impressive. My question is how high did you mount the camera? Did you put it in the center of your windshield or more on the driver/passenger side? I'm thinking of centering mine under the rear view mirror, but I'm worried that this might be too low to get a good line of sight.
I’ve ended up with mine more to the left than I’d like and it’s outside the wiper area. Was fitted by my dealer and they didn’t check the location with me. Will get it moved at some point but only a problem in really heavy rain
I have had previous dashcams affect DAB on front view only, but it depends on where the aerial cable is routed and whether the power cable has the ferrite core to reduce noise.
there are 2 different camera modules available for these. One is a rear facing cabin view camera and this one in the video is the rear facing zoom camera mainly focused on traffic behind you. Quick alternative for running an actual full rear camera with cable. Great option to be honest.
@@itsandystringer390 If you are driving a SUV, a rear view camera will NEVER stick on the window. It falls off almost the first time you close the rear door. You need to wire it to an outside camera.
Yes with the rear camera attached it records both front and rear together in sync. Unfortunately the player doesn’t put them back together, but hopefully a future feature
Just had 422GW Fitted, very happy, just need a little more info on Alexia. We have it set up but it uses up mobile data and as such perhaps not used as it should be. Also a bit about it being shown back on your mobile would be good.
Could you help me I have a dash cam nextbase 422GW series 2 I can see the live from the front camera on my iPhone the rear camera I can not see live thanks
Hi Paul, thanks for the video. Are you using the rearview camera to look back while you are driving? is it safe to do that? Also I'm not sure what should I buy between rear view cam and rear window view cam.
no. it is in picture in picture mode. Mainly for recording; not for viewing. Look at it only to make sure it captures all the front and back movements.
I got the 422 GW. I was impressed how the camera magnetically connects to the screen mount so when you get to your destination you can just pull the camera away from the screne mount so that it's not on show. I then bought the rear cam which connects into the camera not the screen mount therefore i now need to disconnect the rear camera from the front camea beofre i can pull the front camera away from the screen mount. Seems a really bad design. Surely the rear camera could be made to attach into the front powered screen mount. Has anyone found a solution to this ?
I’ve just had a 522 Nextbase camera and going to have it fitted. I’ve got a smart 453 for two car and wondering whether a rear view cabin camera or a camera on back window
Two main decision points, will you have people sat in the middle seat often, in which case your recording window is limited, and do you want to route cable through your car roof (if you’re ok with that the wired option will be better). From what I can tell the recording quality will be the same if you used a wired camera fixed to the back window.
I Was not sure about adding the rear view option as just fitted the 422GW and thought the rear view module might be a bit rubbish buit your video has convinced me otherwise.
Great video! Have you tried the other option of the rear view camera yet? Looking at this video it's convinced me that this option is a good one. I was apprehensive that with it being at the front of the car that it would struggle to pick up number plates from behind that clearly. Doesn't seem to be the case. Can see an argument for this over the other one due to no extra wires being needed, but I would be interested to see what the other one is like too. Just one question - have you tried this version of the rear view camera with passengers in the back? If so, is there much blockage? Thanks for posting.
Hi mate. I’ve bought the 2 cabin cameras as It they were £20 each and the one you have were £50 each. Trying to work out if it’s worth the extra £30 per car for a zoomed view of the rear window. I have a BMW x2 with a tiny letterbox rear window and a 4 series convertible. My thoughts are the park guard mode would be better with a more side-on view of the car. That’s the most likely place for a bump on the x2 as it’s in a carpark most of the time. The convertible would probably benefit from the cabin view as I drive with the roof down a lot. I have up on the cable rear window camera due to the shockingly poor design (the cable fouls the bracket and should have exited the camera from the side) thesis no good for a convertible, and on the x2 it stops the DAB radio from working! Cheers
Hi. I’ve only got the rear view camera shown in this video, Nextbase also do a rear window camera that fits into the rear window and has a cable running to the front facing camera. I got the one without cables as I didn’t want to run a cable through the car but if you want an unobstructed view through the rear window the other module is better as the rear passengers don’t get in the way. For me though this one works ok.
@@PaulMaloney hi,with the rear view camera you only see the back of the car ,the cabine rear view camera gifs a complete rear- left and right view of the car,( when somebody hits and run you from the side of the car ) think i go for the cabine rear view camera, thanks for the fast reaction ,hi from belgium
I suppose I only view rear footage via the app or in my PC. From memory I think if you touch the main screen it makes the rear view disappear, but it’s been a while since I tried

Hi great vid. Is it possible to add the rear view and rear window to the dash cam all at the same time? So 3 cameras essentially
It's only the camera mounted on the rear screen that can affect DAB reception.
I have had previous dashcams affect DAB on front view only, but it depends on where the aerial cable is routed and whether the power cable has the ferrite core to reduce noise.
Hi Paul, any updates on your experience; is everything good or do you have any issues?
Uploaded a night time footage video. Working on an update showing footage and feedback on how it works but struggling with time
Why is it in some videos, you could actually see the inside of the car and the rear window at the same time?
Is there a setting to do this?

question when people sit in the back other than them being alittle in the way does the camera focus on them or does it stay focused outside?
only asking cause I might buy the other rear cam option the one that sticks to the window
It stays focussed on the outside from the testing I’ve done, but people say in middle seat obscure most of the view unfortunately

It's the zoom 'Rear View' option. If it was the 'Cabin' version you would definitely see the driver in the footage.
