My dad owned a 77 iron head. He used to put me on the tank and let me take over the controls (w some help of course) on the back roads when I was like 4 or 5 years old. He bought it in baskets and built it before I was alive and owned it till I was almost 20 years old. I used to get it out when he was at work and I was on summer break and rip it up and down the road at like 14 or 15 years old lol . Now im hooked I can't stay off motorcycles if it's 30 degrees or more and not wet or snowy I'm usually on them
I have the same exact red bike, just got it out of storage and rode it for the first time in about 30 years. I bought it new in 1977 from Brewster Harley-Davidson in Brewster NY. Have the original bill of sale stating that I paid $3250 for the bike in April of 1977 (That was a lot of money back then), I also took the exhaust off when it was new and swapped it with drag pipes and I also still have the original exhaust system with that same part number. That is the factory installed seat that came with the bike, I thought it looked very cheaply made and I replaced mine with a better quality seat. Felt good to ride it again, but it was a lot more fun back in 1977 when there were no other people driving around while sending text messages, and there were no deer running out in front of you in the roadway....
I need to convince my old man to buy this in memory of the one he had just like it. He used to put my brother and i on the gas tank an ride us around. My grandmother would loose her mind i heard lol
GOOD MOTORCYCLE DAY( IRON HEAD)!!!!!! I HAD A 1977 SPORTSTER!!!! RAN GOOD BUT NOT AS GOOD AS THE ONE YOU HAVE!!!! BIKE SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY HARLEY DAVIDSON AMAZING!!!!!**** THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO BRO!!!!!!!
I have number 10. Dad has it. Both mom and dad got ran off the road in 1979 in riche canyon, Ca and lived. He rebuilt it at Ken Mogi transmission shop in riverside,ca. Dad gave me the Pink. Ready to ride! Oh it’s in black!
Oh yeah almost forgot when dad came home from work, because that’s what men do, dad use to take me to his favorite store on the sportster I would get a 8 oz. 7up and dad would get a Budweiser. Without helmets cause it was 1978.
My dad worked for Harley Davidson AMF era. Kenny when you talk about how you felt when your dad bought you the GT 80 My first real bike with a clutch was the X 90 It was a love affair
Long ,low, vintage, & those pipes .a mans motorcycle.I liked that black road king w/the big chrome headlight, then that 72 1200 sport then this & the red & gold tassel bike.what a collection, a marine gas tank.
Great bike. You guys sold a white and red 1974 XLCH1000 a couple years ago that I still think about. I really wish I had bought that bike. It was one of the coolest sportster I've ever seen. I can't remember what it sold for, but it was very reasonable considering how awesome it was.
I think the original pipes are 2 into one like I had on my 77 1,000 . I took the original handle bars off and had installed 12 inch pull backs. The two into one's exhaust sound just as loud and the drag pipes.
I put a fender hugging seat on my 77 and a 16" rear tire to lower it for me. I still have the original owners manual too, wish I had the bike still. Mine was this exact red also. I was one lucky person to have had and rode a machine identical for 12 years.
I have a 72 XLCH I am building,... numbers match, only had one previous owner, who had the engine rebuilt and only put on 6k miles before he passed away. I am in Cali and had it shipped from Michigan,... I upped to a 74-77 style forks and so I can have the same front brakes as this bike,....
In the movie "Chrome and hot leather" sometime in the early 70s I saw the first XLCH 1000 being rifden by a hippie. I temember it was a shiny chopper with lots of chrome parts. Ride to live.. live to ride!
Good video of a beautiful bike. Nice job Kaplan Cycles. Not to put a fine line on it but it is not an XLCH its an XLH. It looks like it has a points cover from a 77 XLCR someone held back the #1 points cover.
Got a ? For you ken - are the 1983 xlx ironhead sportster getting rare to come across? I’m in New England and I haven’t seen any around nor for sale anywhere ive looked. Trying to get a professional opinion like yours , if you can find time to elaborate on this model ironhead. Thanks
I have that bike in that color. I have the 2 into 1 exhaust but switch to the single pipes because the 2 in 1 do too good of a job and you can really hear all the top end, bottom tractor motor sounds the engine makes. Loud pipes cover noisy clacky engines and save lives too.
It’s a xl not a xlch . It’s got a starter as well as the large oil tank & battery.xlck had the square oil tank & a small battery . The xlch had high comp pistons & large valves with hp cams .nice bike but definitely not a xlch .thats not the stock exhaust there aftermarket 77 had mufflers .
You can buy a set of pipes for this thing for about $180 the reason this exhaust is so expensive is it to 43 year old antique and it's brand new and one of the last ones left on the planet so really it's priceless back in the day you could have bought this exhaust brand new for a couple hundred bucks
Mike Stowe it is funny a car exhaust is 10xs the material but almost only a third of the price. Of even a simple dirt bike yoshi your looking at 800$ plus

Love the red on this bike!

My favorite bike ever. Sound, lines, everything perfect.
My dad worked for Harley Davidson AMF era.
Kenny when you talk about how you felt when your dad bought you the GT 80
My first real bike with a clutch was the X 90
It was a love affair
I can totally understand why Shaelyn picked this as her favorite Harley Davidson, out of the man's collection. That's a very beautiful red paintjob!
Long ,low, vintage, & those pipes .a mans motorcycle.I liked that black road king w/the big chrome headlight, then that 72 1200 sport then this & the red & gold tassel bike.what a collection, a marine gas tank.
It is worth more than the nada book
I'd say with the exhaust $15k
Take it or leave it
Just bought one for 500 dollars! I can only dream of it ever looking this good once I’m done fixing it.
Def nice bike for sure , very rare to see in original clean condition Great service and job once again mr Kaplan

In the movie "Chrome and hot leather" sometime in the early 70s I saw the first XLCH 1000 being rifden by a hippie. I temember it was a shiny chopper with lots of chrome parts. Ride to live.. live to ride!
This is a Beauty, I wonder what they ended up getting in auction, anyone know?
This guy makes me laugh, I’d love to see his reaction from some random person asks for his autograph.
Lol
Recently picked up an all stock 1975 xlh . Hard to get parts for if needed.
Ebay.
Good video of a beautiful bike. Nice job Kaplan Cycles. Not to put a fine line on it but it is not an XLCH its an XLH. It looks like it has a points cover from a 77 XLCR someone held back the #1 points cover.
Good call, Michael! Where's that kicker at, anyway?
Who do you suggest to do work on the older bikes in your area or in ct?
👍😎
Did anybody see what they listed this for? or what it sold for?

Is a electric start sporty a xlch?
I have a 77 sportster, need to fix it up I see
love sporty's you can pick up newer ones cheap now irf i wasnt 6ft 320 pounds lol

found one in England bidding on it
XLH Sportster
Yellow spark plug wires?
I think those are original, as my plug wires are also yellow and red.
@@headreddedstepchild6177 Originals were black.
Needs a kicker to be sweet bike , but its nice bike
I have a 1975 that is like brand new 😊
Is this for sale? If so where can I see pricing? Great video by the way!
Www.kaplanamerica.com click the link it will be up for sale today
That "Ham Can" air cleaner cover gotsta go !, covers up way too much of that beautiful motor !...
Damn Bro!
How much you want ? For that nice sporty!! 👍👍👍🤔
🔥👍🏼
Man that bike looks too small for that guy, lol. Nice bike!!!
I have that same bike here in philippines 1977 xlch .color black...sadly there is no available parts here in philippines 😅
we had a 77 like this in black it wasnt in as good condition as this
cherry bike get rid of the old ladys plant cart under the bay window and put that bike in its place 😎
Isn't it an XLH ? XLCH is kick only 💁♂️🏍
You are correct. That is an XLH. An XLCH has a kicker and no electric start.
Never seen an "original" XLCH with E-start and NO kicker. If that bike is factory original then the serial # starts with 3A as opposed to 4A.
Or looks just like the dude in christine the dude with the side burns I think it is him
its kind of stupid what they get for exhaust for a motorcycle when you can get custom dual exhaust for a car or truck for less then half the price
You can buy a set of pipes for this thing for about $180 the reason this exhaust is so expensive is it to 43 year old antique and it's brand new and one of the last ones left on the planet so really it's priceless back in the day you could have bought this exhaust brand new for a couple hundred bucks
@@KaplanCycles ya i know its just nuts what they get for any aftermarket mufflers let alone a full exhuast
Mike Stowe it is funny a car exhaust is 10xs the material but almost only a third of the price. Of even a simple dirt bike yoshi your looking at 800$ plus
10 k? no way in hell i got a 77 same as in the video but with some upgrades but 80% stock and only 17250 miles
Not an XLCH is an XLH no kick start.
Nice looking bike though. Noticed others already mentioned the XLH mistake, sorry.
XLH, not an XLCH
