    I had a 77 that I put a hard tail on, stretched and lowered changed the oil tank and painted the tank & fenders high gloss black. It was a good ride and cheap to build. Unfortunately I had to sell it to pay for a lawyer.

    My first bike was a 1975 XLH and I was 18, now I'm 65 and I've had or ridden just about everything and the Ironheads, especially the 1000's, are still my favorite to ride and I have a '73 I'm restoring now. Everyone should own a Sporty, they embody the essence of motorcycles. I'm fortunate I found one that is mostly stock. So many of these bikes were modified heavily.

    The XLCH was a kick start only motorcycle. This is a XLH with the electric starter. The 74 was the last for the right hand shifter. The front brake caliper is 74 or later. A really nice bike for certain.

    I am born in 1976 and I love my 1976 XLCH which i daily drive in the summer. If you keep up with maintenance they are super reliable in my opinion.
    They get kind of expensive, though. Here in Germany a solid one with a rebuilt motor goes for 20,000 bucks.

    I owned a brand new XLCH when I was still in high school in 1971. Back then the CH was Harley's bad ass cycle. Cook Neilson from Cycle magazine actually made the quarter in high 12's around then with a 71 stock CH. The first thing I noticed ON THISit has a XLH oil tank

    • @anon1561

      Only difference between the XL and XLCH was the tank size and kick start. CH had kick start and a smaller tank.

    The first thing I noticed on this bike is that it has a XLH oil tank and an electric start which I don't remember ever been put on a XLCH. Maybe Harley rebranded the XLH(known as the slower Sportster) an XLCH after they boosted it to 1000. Does anybody know?

    • @erikdowney6990
      @erikdowney6990 4 роки тому

      Nelson G I think that’s just a typo, in 1973 the XLH was the electric start Harley (I’ve got one, It says XLH under the headlight) the XLCH was still the kickstart, as far as I know they just phased out the XLCH and they all became XLH. I could be wrong tho

      @@robr5786 Not if it's built to the right tolerances with the right brand parts. Of course the Ironhead design has its faults but a LOT of the issues people had with them were down to rebuilding/repairing them incorrectly and not to the right specifications or by using low quality parts.

  • @4570duplex

    Beautiful bike, sounds great, but it is not an XLCH. It's an XLH. Nothing wrong with that, but let's identify it correctly. XLCH's are kick start, XLH's are electric start. Even the lower triple tree on this bike very clearly says "XLH". And I agree with everything you say about old Ironheads - I've owned and ridden one since 1978. You've got a really nice one here. But please, lose the apes...

    • @ajshovel1
      @ajshovel1 3 роки тому

      The "3A" at the start of the vin # is what makes it an XLH, XLCH is "4A". You can't always tell by the elec. start, kidney oil tank and bigger battery because some were converted over when the owner got tired of kicking it. Yes, apes look horrible on an otherwise beautiful little ironhead!!!

    Cool bike but Iron heads aren’t worth a damn, 2-3k running all day. Maybe 5k if it’s prestige original paint, which this isn’t. They are trying to sell it like it’s worth a million bucks.

  • @Road_Rash
    @Road_Rash 3 роки тому +1

    The reason Americans don't want to pay a premium price for a 50 year old bike is because you can buy a brand new one for what people want for an old bike that you can't ride without breaking down...don't get me wrong, I love classic iron, but if I have to pay the same money as a new one, or at the very least a much more recent used bike, that old bike will keep sitting there...I had a 1974 ironhead...wouldn't have another one if it was free...couldn't get past the end of the driveway good without something breaking or falling off...or both...never again...

    • @KaplanCycles
      @KaplanCycles  3 роки тому +1

      20k new bike is worth 5 k in 15 years. 10k classic is worth 20 in 15 years. Its an investment not a toy. IRON-HEAD is a great engine IF built right
