Can we just take a moment to notice how lovely Dr Peterson actually is? Yes, he’s an intelligent man and says a great many good things, but he’s also overall pleasant. Takes time to explain, genuinely seems happy to be there whenever he’s interviewing, and I’ve yet to see him be patronising. A joy.
Yess, we notice and seeing the newly flowering of a beautiful human. I would again say, this was Jordan Peterson at his best, as I said thus after Michael Shermer's talk with JBP.. Again, so clear, so humble, so profound. You listen to Jordan, you hear things he said before, but its always like new, hence its coming out of the now, with all intensity, truthfulness and the wish to give the best possible in the now and wisdom finds expression. It's so crazy when you reflect on the state of our culture too. I have a friend who is genuinely the kindest guy I've ever met. Would never cause intentional harm and genuinely is remorseful if it happens by accident. He's very pure in that way. But he's also an introvert-turned-impulsive-and-extreme-extravert; he lets so many kinds of people in his life with *no* filter, and because he has a desire to help people, very nearly all of them are very, very deeply troubled, to the point of tainting his pure heart in ways he just doesn't see like I do from the outside. His first relationship was with one of the most toxic people I've ever seen or met, period. He suffered deeply because of that but he still hasn't seemed to learn his lesson just yet, only that he should pick his partner more carefully. His desire to help has become a profound curse for him because he gets taken advantage of all the time. Some of these unwell people are the classic modern leftists who think Jordan Peterson is a hateful human being (you know the perspective I'm referring to here, I'm sure). And unfortunately, this perspective has been passed onto my kind-hearted pure soul of a friend and he visibly has a negative reaction simply to his name. And the worst part? He could really, *really* use Jordan's advice because he was raised by a single mother, and has many of the problems that tends to bring with it. I've been considering waiting for an opportunity when we are both on Psychedelics to show him a particularly well-done video of Jordan explaining the things that could really help him. Because otherwise he'll have this lens of "this guy is a hateful being and I should be disgusted by his every word" on top of what is incredibly important advice for a man in the modern day.
Making money is not the same as keeping it, there is a reason why investment aren't well thought in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. Well at least my advisor does lol😄

There are a lot of strategies to make tongue-wetting profit that the average joes don't know. . Personally, the financial-market for me seems the only way forward with my long time horizon (accrued roughly $457k in gains since Mid 2021 ) but if you don’t have that fortune of time it’s a tough market out there almost nowhere feels safe!

I don’t want to be lazy and say all of it (so much of what I thought about and felt was contextual), but probably the part about balancing productivity with “living life” and setting incremental, measurable, achievable goals in the face of opposition or time constraints-all while being aware of your temperament and taking that into account. I think the reminder about not comparing yourself to other people is critical to the growth process, otherwise you have a skewed perception of reality, which may undermine growth not support it. Modern Wisdom is a favorite of mine. Thank you, Chris, for the amazing content and hard work and personal sacrifice that it takes to put forth great discussions. They have to be damaged. Or evil. Or highly political. Or something ... really bad. The good intentions emanating from this man combined with the caution in how he deploys them into the world are obvious to see for anyone with eyes. WIthout having to agree with every single thing he says ... you have to be a VERY cynical human being to have a negative take regards JBP. I think a fair portion of the negativity is actually commissioned blow back by the establishment ( The red skull thing being the obvious latest e.g. ) . I suspect what he's been able to accomplish in opposition to their efforts as effectively a single man scares the living shit out of them. They think ... FUCK! What if we had to deal with 1M JBPs ??? The thing I liked the most was that Chris was considering and thinking when answering or asking a question. He LISTENED to what Jordan was saying, he didn't have a ready script and immediately jumping to say something and prove how smart he is. It was a really thoughtful conversation. This talk was better than a Hollywood blockbuster. Absolutely legendary, humanity should treasure this guy (and others like him, I'm sure they exist). Whenever I fall into resentment I hear Dr. Peterson voice telling me "accept responsibility for the catastrophe of your life, and then, you can transcend it" and get back on track.

That was really something, Chris--without gushing or being maudlin, at the end you distilled how so many of us feel when you told Dr. Peterson, "We chose YOU." And when you said that we'd have gladly shouldered some of his suffering if we could, I said "thank you" aloud! RIght on the money. I thought he might be overwhelmed given his still-vulnerable state, but he responded very well and you guys wrapped up a solid interview powerfully.

@@sandhya797 a lot of pain comes from disconnecting cause and effect. We see outcomes we want but don’t yet have, and we feel frustrated. But we pay little attention to the effort required to produce the outcome. By considering both, we save ourselves from delusion. Either we decide the outcome is really worth the effort and task ourselves with carrying out the required effort, or we decide the outcome is not worth the effort and move on with our lives! I’ve seen many people remain stuck in this exact mental trap for years; they want a specific outcome, but the required effort simply isn’t worth it. Instead of being honest with themselves, accepting the fact that the outcome simply isn’t good enough to justify the effort, they look for shortcuts, or try motivating themselves with affirmations and self talk. There’s nothing wrong with deciding something simply isn’t worth the effort, even if you’ve already started. It’s a hell of a lot better than wasting time pretending you’re actually going to do it. Best to continue searching for another desirable outcome, where the require effort truly IS worth the effort. When you find that calling, where the outcome IS worth the effort, everything falls into place. It might still be a ton of work, but the work will be productive, it won’t be a psychological battle you play with yourself. Every single day you’ll make incremental progress toward the desired outcome, rather than go to bed in a mental stalemate with yourself, again. And progress - momentum - is what gives us the energy to keep on going down the righteous path

Your ideal can judge you harshly. Rearrange your reward philosophy: Instead of punishing yourself for the distance between you and your ideal, reward yourself for incremental movement towards it."
This is an incredible take away, not only does it produce more sociability and a general feeling of acceptance that comes with less over thinking, but it also promotes the constant change and perhaps growth of one’s philosophy, which is part of everyone’s journey.

@@realmadrid314 I agree that the goal of self-help books is to get people to a place in life where they do not need to rely on self-help books, and my comment is about people realizing how naive they were to need such a book, and maybe they feel like a sucker, and that writing a sequel to a self help book is to admit that the first self help book didn't work and will get tossed in the used bin of all the other self help books that litter the market, and only temporarily replaced the last self help fad. Also, reading any particular book or the words of any guru should not be proudly considered the geneses of anyone's achievements. this is setting the bar very low for personal growth and is hero worship/cult of personality thinking. be your own hero.

This weekend I've watched him being interviewed by Tim Dillon, Andrew Schultz, Akira the Don, Russell Brand and now Chris Williamson. Sure, there has been a lot repetition but God I can't seem to get enough of this man.
As a 49yo man and father standing in the middle of his half cleaned up room in a broken down mess of emotions and tears after that conversation .... All I can say is thank you for voicing to JBP what I will probably never get the oppertunity to say face to face. Now time get back to my room and life with a little more hope that tomorrow will be just a little bit more ok.
Damn I love Jordan Peterson so much. All my other idols are unfortunately long dead. But this man is just something else, I almost feel like the luckiest person in the world to even have an opportunity to listen to this genius. My understanding, in simple words, of Mr Peterson's message to us all is: Do the best you can in every moment of your life with any level of knowledge you might have. Be impeccable. (and tearing up at a few points before that) But for real, this episode was the exact thing I needed to get back on track, especially the parts about self-consciousness and *cleaning up one's room* really spoke to me and my current struggles. Dr. Peterson is, of course, intelligent, articulate, humble, honest, and above all disarmingly vulnerable. There is no façade, no superficiality, just someone searching to be a better person and, in the process, showing us the way. How many people would open themselves up the way Dr. Peterson does? Perhaps men gravitate to him more because he displays the qualities that they admire and want to emulate--the man they want to be. Definitely one of the best interviews Dr. Peterson has done recently. We are all profoundly grateful that he is on the road to recovery and wish him continued success.
Finally. At the end, finally, someone was able to express to Jordan how I truly feel about him. Thanks man. Now I know, without a doubt, that he knows.

My JBP rule that isn’t in the book is this one: The willingness to be a fool is the precursor to transformation. When I am confronted by that anxiety and discomfort of change I try to apply this rule so I don’t feel that burden of trying to be perfect or highly successful. This rule reminds me to allow the process to teach me how to become better and keep going.
Chris what you gifted Jordan right before an hour and a half in about how you would willingly take on some of his pain to help ease him of the suffering Jordan has endured on his journey to help his fellow humans is a Godly trait. You can see from Jordan's reaction the moment of joy you gifted him in the power of your words. What are we willing to endure in the benefit of our fellow humans?...Jordan lives it. I think Chris is correct that not only Jordan, but all of us fail to understand just how much impact he has had through the "chain reaction" that emanates from the people he has helped directly. JBP hints at this when he talks about personal responsibility and often says "God knows what might happen if you then .... " , but I think even he may not fully comprehend just how far and positively his influence has impacted and may end up yet reaching. When historians look back upon this period from 2015 - 2030 , I think it will be viewed as more pivotal than most in the past and ... I suspect JBP will be viewed as one of, if not THE most central figure.

We all hope that this is a long, long time from now, but when Jordan passes away, I cannot fathom the stadium sized crowds for miles and miles and miles paying their respects. And, no matter what, I will be there among them. I cannot measure the gratitude I have for JP. And I wish everyone else reading this the best wishes as well.
I was quite miserable for a good amount of my 20's. I didn't really need to change much to become happy tho. I lived a fundamentaly good life, but I didn't feel happy. Why? Well, I started smiling. First I was smiling alone in my car, on my way to work. I must've looked like a maniac. I started smiling at everyone at work, I smiled at my wife, I smiled in the store. I smiled everywhere. Then I started greeting people. Saying nice things. I started joking. And you know what? It worked. I'm very much happy. I'm now a positive person, and fun things happens to those who smiles and says "yes". Things that's not fun doesn't take as much place in my life, since there are so much good to focus on. Sometimes it's not your life that has to change to make you happy. You need to change yourself to appreciate what you already have. Start with a smile. You don't look stupid. People who look sad without reason look stupid. Smile!

I loved your tribute to him at the end - it was very moving. I have watched JP since 'Professor against political correctness' and the whole C-16 thing and although I wouldn't count myself as a follower I think he is endlessly fascinating and a thoroughly 'good thing'. I am amazed and puzzled why the woke left continually try to destroy him - and it seems to me that they very nearly did as I cannot believe his illness was unconnected with the wave of hate coming from them (but clearly his personal crisis and the drug thing played a major part also). I think you are a top interviewer and love your style - so I look forward to lots of content in the future. I was, as a side note, very impressed by your use of the term 'metacognisance' ... in a way that seemed to make sense :)
Often, I find that with podcasts, I can chime in and out of the conversation whilst carrying out other menial tasks. With Jordan Peterson, I have to seriously sit and consider the principles being laid out; otherwise, the value goes unnoticed and ultimately goes over my head. I wanted to share this insight as I am not sure if others have had a similar experience. I think this is a testament to the level of knowledge that is being shared. Great interview, Chris.
Yeah man, your last closing remarks, about him not knowing how he's exponentially making things better for everyone who sees me becoming a better person, ring so true in my case - I know exactly how you feel! My parents are working class 3rd world migrants, they don't read or think deeply about much and they don't know how things work in UK, so discovering JBP was really life advice from a smart, attentive but not smotheringly-loving uncle (as much as I love my dad, there wasn't much wisdom or answers to any of my questions at home). But through his lectures I got to flesh out what I thought, felt and that has helped me clean up my act. Genuinely so grateful and happy this man is back!

I think that when people say 'that's a really good question' so often , it , to me is an irritating cliche and I wish people in podcasts would refrain for the most part ...

Well, look! :-) Whenever I find myself at a crossroad or hesitating, I ask myself: “what would I do if I wasn’t so dumb?”. Then I do what pops up. Never ceasing amazement!
It did me as well. I was that person who was hit by the train when my spouse left after six years of ignoring the problem. JP's advice on incremental rewards for incremental change is superb in order to combat the critical judge. Rule #4 in "12 Rules for Life": Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.

A while ago, I had a dream that Jordan Peterson came to my town to speak, and I attended the lecture. When it was over, everyone was leaving the building and I was looking for him to thank him, I found him on his own among the crowd, holding a baby boy, no more than a year old. He was playing with the boy, caring for him, making him laugh, and just loving him. I woke up then, and thought about the dream for a moment. Suddenly I realized that I was the baby, and I cried and cried. More specifically, it was the infant deep inside myself that has never known such love and encouragement from anyone, never known his father, and grown up mostly alone. I'm crying even now, as I type this on my lunch break. Thank you so much, Jordan, for going through all the trials of your life that have made you who you are. Thank you for believing in who I could be. You can add my life to the long list of all the lives you have saved. If all I can do to honor you is to keep my proverbial room clean, always tell the truth, and aim for the highest good, then I will stake my life on it.

You are correct regarding social media. I only joined because my sister convinced me after my vacation in Italy to join the rest of the human race on social media.I was asked several times to start a podcast but I value my privacy. Maybe one day I’ll put my life in writing, not sure yet. I took great pleasure in knowing I did not need social media. I stayed busy and traveled a lot. After 2 yrs on Facebook and a few months on Twitter, I was disgusted w/the trash and falsehoods on social media. My FB was hacked twice. Someone copied my pics and info, created over 20 false accounts on messenger using my name and my pics. Twitter was fun but quickly became stupid and hateful. I could not believe adults joined social media to display their stupidity and hate without remorse. Anyway, finding Jordan on UA-cam is a treasure. He is the only the only reason I stay on UA-cam. It's so crazy when you reflect on the state of our culture too. I have a friend who is genuinely the kindest guy I've ever met. Would never cause intentional harm and genuinely is remorseful if it happens by accident. He's very pure in that way. But he's also an introvert-turned-impulsive-and-extreme-extravert; he lets so many kinds of people in his life with *no* filter, and because he has a desire to help people, very nearly all of them are very, very deeply troubled, to the point of tainting his pure heart in ways he just doesn't see like I do from the outside. His first relationship was with one of the most toxic people I've ever seen or met, period. He suffered deeply because of that but he still hasn't seemed to learn his lesson just yet, only that he should pick his partner more carefully. His desire to help has become a profound curse for him because he gets taken advantage of all the time.
Some of these unwell people are the classic modern leftists who think Jordan Peterson is a hateful human being (you know the perspective I'm referring to here, I'm sure). And unfortunately, this perspective has been passed onto my kind-hearted pure soul of a friend and he visibly has a negative reaction simply to his name. And the worst part? He could really, *really* use Jordan's advice because he was raised by a single mother, and has many of the problems that tends to bring with it. I've been considering waiting for an opportunity when we are both on Psychedelics to show him a particularly well-done video of Jordan explaining the things that could really help him. Because otherwise he'll have this lens of "this guy is a hateful being and I should be disgusted by his every word" on top of what is incredibly important advice for a man in the modern day.
Making money is not the same as keeping it, there is a reason why investment aren't well thought in schools, the examples you gave are well stationed, the market crisis gave me my first millions, people shy away from hard times, I embrace them.. Well at least my advisor does lol😄

Personally, the financial-market for me seems the only way forward with my long time horizon (accrued roughly $457k in gains since Mid 2021 ) but if you don’t have that fortune of time it’s a tough market out there almost nowhere feels safe!

I don’t want to be lazy and say all of it (so much of what I thought about and felt was contextual), but probably the part about balancing productivity with “living life” and setting incremental, measurable, achievable goals in the face of opposition or time constraints-all while being aware of your temperament and taking that into account. I think the reminder about not comparing yourself to other people is critical to the growth process, otherwise you have a skewed perception of reality, which may undermine growth not support it.
Modern Wisdom is a favorite of mine. Thank you, Chris, for the amazing content and hard work and personal sacrifice that it takes to put forth great discussions. And thank you Dr. Peterson for your great work and courage at such a high price and sacrifice for you and your family. It’s not in vain, and it has positively impacted so many people.

Whenever I fall into resentment I hear Dr. Peterson voice telling me "accept responsibility for the catastrophe of your life, and then, you can transcend it" and get back on track.

@@sandhya797 a lot of pain comes from disconnecting cause and effect. We see outcomes we want but don’t yet have, and we feel frustrated. But we pay little attention to the effort required to produce the outcome. By considering both, we save ourselves from delusion. Either we decide the outcome is really worth the effort and task ourselves with carrying out the required effort, or we decide the outcome is not worth the effort and move on with our lives!
I’ve seen many people remain stuck in this exact mental trap for years; they want a specific outcome, but the required effort simply isn’t worth it. Instead of being honest with themselves, accepting the fact that the outcome simply isn’t good enough to justify the effort, they look for shortcuts, or try motivating themselves with affirmations and self talk. There’s nothing wrong with deciding something simply isn’t worth the effort, even if you’ve already started. It’s a hell of a lot better than wasting time pretending you’re actually going to do it. Best to continue searching for another desirable outcome, where the require effort truly IS worth the effort.
When you find that calling, where the outcome IS worth the effort, everything falls into place. It might still be a ton of work, but the work will be productive, it won’t be a psychological battle you play with yourself. Every single day you’ll make incremental progress toward the desired outcome, rather than go to bed in a mental stalemate with yourself, again. And progress - momentum - is what gives us the energy to keep on going down the righteous path

@@realmadrid314 I agree that the goal of self-help books is to get people to a place in life where they do not need to rely on self-help books, and my comment is about people realizing how naive they were to need such a book, and maybe they feel like a sucker, and that writing a sequel to a self help book is to admit that the first self help book didn't work and will get tossed in the used bin of all the other self help books that litter the market, and only temporarily replaced the last self help fad. Also, reading any particular book or the words of any guru should not be proudly considered the geneses of anyone's achievements. this is setting the bar very low for personal growth and is hero worship/cult of personality thinking. be your own hero.

I was straight up sobbing throughout the last 20-30 minutes!! (and tearing up at a few points before that)
But for real, this episode was the exact thing I needed to get back on track, especially the parts about self-consciousness and *cleaning up one's room* really spoke to me and my current struggles. It really felt like the both of you managed to put truths I intensely thought about into words so that they've become so concrete that I can actually work with them now.
It was very delightful to see JBP at this performance level again too, and I do think that's due to your intelligent questions as well :)

Describing Peterson's work as a "gateway drug to integrity" couldn't be more true.
Dr. Peterson is, of course, intelligent, articulate, humble, honest, and above all disarmingly vulnerable. There is no façade, no superficiality, just someone searching to be a better person and, in the process, showing us the way. How many people would open themselves up the way Dr. Peterson does? Perhaps men gravitate to him more because he displays the qualities that they admire and want to emulate--the man they want to be. Definitely one of the best interviews Dr. Peterson has done recently. We are all profoundly grateful that he is on the road to recovery and wish him continued success.
Finally. At the end, finally, someone was able to express to Jordan how I truly feel about him. Thanks man. Now I know, without a doubt, that he knows.

My JBP rule that isn’t in the book is this one: The willingness to be a fool is the precursor to transformation. When I am confronted by that anxiety and discomfort of change I try to apply this rule so I don’t feel that burden of trying to be perfect or highly successful. This rule reminds me to allow the process to teach me how to become better and keep going.
Chris what you gifted Jordan right before an hour and a half in about how you would willingly take on some of his pain to help ease him of the suffering Jordan has endured on his journey to help his fellow humans is a Godly trait. You can see from Jordan's reaction the moment of joy you gifted him in the power of your words. What are we willing to endure in the benefit of our fellow humans?...Jordan lives it. I think Chris is correct that not only Jordan, but all of us fail to understand just how much impact he has had through the "chain reaction" that emanates from the people he has helped directly. JBP hints at this when he talks about personal responsibility and often says "God knows what might happen if you then .... " , but I think even he may not fully comprehend just how far and positively his influence has impacted and may end up yet reaching.
When historians look back upon this period from 2015 - 2030 , I think it will be viewed as more pivotal than most in the past and ... I suspect JBP will be viewed as one of, if not THE most central figure.

I love your interview style. You ask well chosen questions, and then you let them speak. To go down their multitude of rabbit holes. It's wonderful.
I was quite miserable for a good amount of my 20's. I didn't really need to change much to become happy tho. I lived a fundamentaly good life, but I didn't feel happy. Why? Well, I started smiling. First I was smiling alone in my car, on my way to work. I must've looked like a maniac. I started smiling at everyone at work, I smiled at my wife, I smiled in the store. I smiled everywhere. Then I started greeting people. Saying nice things. I started joking. And you know what? It worked. I'm very much happy. I'm now a positive person, and fun things happens to those who smiles and says "yes". Things that's not fun doesn't take as much place in my life, since there are so much good to focus on.
Sometimes it's not your life that has to change to make you happy. You need to change yourself to appreciate what you already have. Start with a smile. You don't look stupid. People who look sad without reason look stupid. Smile!

I loved your tribute to him at the end - it was very moving. I have watched JP since 'Professor against political correctness' and the whole C-16 thing and although I wouldn't count myself as a follower I think he is endlessly fascinating and a thoroughly 'good thing'. I am amazed and puzzled why the woke left continually try to destroy him - and it seems to me that they very nearly did as I cannot believe his illness was unconnected with the wave of hate coming from them (but clearly his personal crisis and the drug thing played a major part also). I think you are a top interviewer and love your style - so I look forward to lots of content in the future. I was, as a side note, very impressed by your use of the term 'metacognisance' ... in a way that seemed to make sense :)

Often, I find that with podcasts, I can chime in and out of the conversation whilst carrying out other menial tasks. With Jordan Peterson, I have to seriously sit and consider the principles being laid out; otherwise, the value goes unnoticed and ultimately goes over my head. I wanted to share this insight as I am not sure if others have had a similar experience. I think this is a testament to the level of knowledge that is being shared.

Yeah man, your last closing remarks, about him not knowing how he's exponentially making things better for everyone who sees me becoming a better person, ring so true in my case - I know exactly how you feel! My parents are working class 3rd world migrants, they don't read or think deeply about much and they don't know how things work in UK, so discovering JBP was really life advice from a smart, attentive but not smotheringly-loving uncle (as much as I love my dad, there wasn't much wisdom or answers to any of my questions at home). But through his lectures I got to flesh out what I thought, felt and that has helped me clean up my act. Genuinely so grateful and happy this man is back!

JP's advice on incremental rewards for incremental change is superb in order to combat the critical judge. Rule #4 in "12 Rules for Life": Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.

A while ago, I had a dream that Jordan Peterson came to my town to speak, and I attended the lecture. When it was over, everyone was leaving the building and I was looking for him to thank him, I found him on his own among the crowd, holding a baby boy, no more than a year old. He was playing with the boy, caring for him, making him laugh, and just loving him.
I woke up then, and thought about the dream for a moment. Suddenly I realized that I was the baby, and I cried and cried. More specifically, it was the infant deep inside myself that has never known such love and encouragement from anyone, never known his father, and grown up mostly alone. I'm crying even now, as I type this on my lunch break.
Thank you so much, Jordan, for going through all the trials of your life that have made you who you are. Thank you for believing in who I could be. You can add my life to the long list of all the lives you have saved. If all I can do to honor you is to keep my proverbial room clean, always tell the truth, and aim for the highest good, then I will stake my life on it.

You are correct regarding social media. I only joined because my sister convinced me after my vacation in Italy to join the rest of the human race on social media.I was asked several times to start a podcast but I value my privacy. Maybe one day I’ll put my life in writing, not sure yet. I took great pleasure in knowing I did not need social media. I stayed busy and traveled a lot. After 2 yrs on Facebook and a few months on Twitter, I was disgusted w/the trash and falsehoods on social media. My FB was hacked twice. Someone copied my pics and info, created over 20 false accounts on messenger using my name and my pics. Twitter was fun but quickly became stupid and hateful. I could not believe adults joined social media to display their stupidity and hate without remorse. Anyway, finding Jordan on UA-cam is a treasure. He is the only the only reason I stay on UA-cam.
