while it certainly isn't the outright fastest formula one car in history, nor is it close, you have to admit the RB19 is probably the most complete car we've seen since the W11, and probably second only to the W11 in recent times. in the beginning of 2023 their only slight weakness was slow speed corners which they held a small deficit in to ferrari. by the summer break they were dominating every area of every track, whether it be low, medium, high speed corners, straights, direction changes, wet, you name it. only downside I can think of is, similar to the pre-W11 mercs, being too gentle on tires, which has lost them a few race starts and pole positions, the latter of which I could count on one hand. given completeness is what was discussed in this video I think the RB19 should get some credit. great analysis though!

i know the cars are different nowadays and a lot slower, and they probably already tried it, but like, would it be possible for them to adapt the w11 aero to the 2022 rules? i mean that's probably what they tried with the w13 and we know the tractor it was, but still i cant believe that the team that made the fastest ground vehicle ever was able to make the w13 and 14
james allison did not design for mercedes in 22 and 23 as in the w13 and w14 but now hes back as technical director and working on the w15
@@lyric5922 yes but I’m guessing they still have the blueprints and things like that so idk
They don’t have an unlimited budget anymore. Lot harder and areo concept is entirely different now just not possible…
Agreed ..not to mention the cars now are bigger and heavier than the W11..@@jacobbrassard2776
its not possible anymore. The downforce of 2023 cars is generated mainly by the floor and diffusor. In 2020 it was generated by aero parts like wings etc. (the floor had almost no impact on downforce)
James Allison is still technical director.
He was given a different role in 2021 that would see him manage projects outside of F1. Mike Elliot would be the one replacing him. Allison only just returned this year, some time before Imola was supposed to happen.
@@LoganSLRLockwood Source? Because I quickly looked it up on wiki and it seems he never left the role.
he moved to boat racing as a part of a deal mercedes had with ineos
Id love a video on another car he designed. The 2011 Lotus that kimi and grosjean drove. That thing sounded sooo good with the side exit exhausts
@@Snufflegrunthe has only recently returned to his post, it's been on every F1 race preshow since it was announced, toto wolff said about it to one of the show presenters on the F1 channel, in fact if you search the vids on UA-cam you should be able to find the information yourself
8 time world champion!
Loving your videos Jonny, can you make a video on just how lucky RedBull were able to get Max? When Mercedes offered him backup when they were at their peak, like how insane is the story of Max getting to where he is now both on track and behind the scenes
The best thing happened to MV is not joining Mercedes. You know that MV lost to Ocon if F3? Merc wanted MV to win the GP2 & then offered a seat at Williams. If Max ever joined Merc & became LH's team mate in 2017, Max would have been mentally scarred beyond repair. Helmut Marko said that 2021 season was mentally tough for MV & he can't handle another 2021 season. Look at what LH is doing to Russel since Canada 2022.
@@ktcool4660 You're all over the comment section with your deluded Max hate comments.
Championship fights are mentally tough for everyone regardless, look at 2016 and 2008, so just because Max says 2021 was challenging doesn't mean it wasn't for Lewis.
Max lost to Ocon, STFU Max was driving a Van Amersfoort who had never won an F3 title yet still fought neck and neck with Ocon who was driving a superior Prema (the best F3 team).
Lewis would've 100% beaten Max over a season in 2017-2018 no denying that, Lewis was in his prime.
But Max would've definitely challenged him more than Bottas did or Russell is now.
Lewis wouldn't have ended his career and he hasn't, Max is thriving just as Lewis once did with Red Bull.
@@lotus865 Most important LH driving an inferior car beat MV in 2021 for the WDC until at the last minute Masi intervened & break the rules to make his bastard the champion.
" more than Bottas did or Russell is now." lol no. GR63 now is far superior driver than MV in 2017 & 2018.
LH far better driver than MV at 38 years of age. In same machinery MV will produce same results as GR63 against LH in 2023.
LH is the most talented driver ever to touch drive an F1 car.
Don't ever compare MV one man show to LH time at Mercedes. LH always had competition except for 2020.
@@ktcool4660 Least crack addled Hamilton fan.
Russell is better than 2017-2018 Max 😂😂. DTS delusional Hammy fan.
Max wiped the floor with Hamilton and would've won easily without Hamilton and Bottas' terrorism, Masi's safety car was well deserved karma and Max was the rightful champion.
@@ktcool466038 year old Lewis would make 25 year old prime Max in the "oversteery" W14 look like Russell, are you fucking stupid 😂😂.
Max absolutely cooks in cars like the oversteery W14 which isn't as well suited to Lewis.
If i'm correct, they didn't even brought aerodynamic updates on the car during the season, but red bull and co did
I absolutely love your videos! Thank you for these. Such well researched and well framed explainers!
Love AMG and love the F1 team even more. One of the most successful F1 teams!
Dad was the obvious rule break, but because it was Mercedes they didn't ban it at once, just waited for next season
And then came 2023 and we saw the all conquering RB19. Maybe not technically and historically as fast as the W11, but relative to other cars that year, it was untouchable.
and then we come back to what has the fia done to slow them down? cos we all know the fia went after merc
W11 gained this much reputation and recognition because of Lewis. He is the guy that drove this machine and made it a beast.
W11 has a legal cheat code known as dual axis steering
Which was never used at race pace in a stent because it wasn’t design to do that.
Love the w11, I want to see a video on the w12 now
The W11 used an Infinity Stone!
Imagine if Lewis had a tow in Monza, for the past several years we've had crazy qualifying sessions at Monza as everyone wants a tow, Mercedes were so fast they just went out first as they were so much faster they didn't need the tow
Dude you've gotta make a video about RB19 now! 🏎
would it matter? merc have built the fastest car ever
W11 marked the perfect end for the Mercedes dominance era
Pls make a vid about the sf 23
The greatest F1 car in all time 💪💜️
I'd say, give the Ferrari F1 2004 todays tires and well see what it can do against the rest of todays cars. The Red Godess was sheer speed on straight and corners. The W11 might be better, but again, im just saying to give it todays tires and a driver that can handle it
You do realize that modern Pirelli tires are 'worse' than those from 2004?
Mercedes was Ross Brawn and Schumacher’s final swan song. They built that team and sent them on their way in very capable hands. Both are the goats at what they did
Schumacher left in 2012 and Brawn left in 2013. Sounds like you're taking credit away from Toto, Hamilton and the engineers that develop Mercedes through 8 years of regulation changes. Mercedes had started the V6 era with the best engine.
Jesus had to be someone and what ..? So Michael built the engine did he

The W11 is truely and Engineering Marvel and will go down in history as the fastest car in f1 cause I dont think any faster car will be never produced.
Lewis and that car is like Senna and his McLaren Honda or Lewis and his McLaren Mercedes 🤙🏼
Anyone could've driven that car to pole, case in point: Russell's Mercedes debut.
I'd like to see them try that in a Redbull!
@@nonegone7170 Like anyone can drive Maxes car to pole now . Right or wrong because we have to make max special and Lewis not having anything to do with helping to get the car on point?
It's nice to see that money dominantion is over and it's driver dominantion.
Driver domination😂. Yeah one thing f1 will always be is about CAR domination.
@@khalidmartie5854 no one denied that. however, the gems shine with mediocre cars then end up in top teams, unlike the african which had the road paved only through top teams, and keeps moaning about how unfair the motorsport is🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I keep on saying W11 was a beast of a car a monster on a road the most perfect...
Mercedes engineers, when they design this car: it's the end of the world, so I guess we'll just make a rocket ship of an f1 car then. 🤷
I was about to ask if yall forgot about the RB19, but I guess mercedes fans won't admit that the W11 was topped
the w11 was a lot faster than the rb19 it would get smoked on every track. Even the rb16 is faster than the rb19. We're talking pure performance, not relative performance to the rest of the field.
The 2019 Ferrari super engine surprised Mercedes and they built a monster car to go to war with Ferrari. Sadly Ferrari never showed up.
Even Mercedes themselves can’t get even remotely close to this machine.
Verstappen got more out of the Rb19 than Hammilton from the W11.
Even if this woud be true the W11 is still faster.
A typical Netflix DTS fan.
Renault getting the cold blowing right is one of the reasons why Red Bull was so dominant in the years preceding the Merc era.
So i've got to disagree that the engine and the chassis manufacturer has to under be the same team to be successful
2019-2021 (Especially 2020) F1 cars were the best looking cars in the history of the sport... Change my mind
while it certainly isn't the outright fastest formula one car in history, nor is it close, you have to admit the RB19 is probably the most complete car we've seen since the W11, and probably second only to the W11 in recent times. in the beginning of 2023 their only slight weakness was slow speed corners which they held a small deficit in to ferrari. by the summer break they were dominating every area of every track, whether it be low, medium, high speed corners, straights, direction changes, wet, you name it. only downside I can think of is, similar to the pre-W11 mercs, being too gentle on tires, which has lost them a few race starts and pole positions, the latter of which I could count on one hand. given completeness is what was discussed in this video I think the RB19 should get some credit. great analysis though!
and now how can't they build a competitive car? 😭😭😭
They got the new era so wrong the zeropod concept. We'll have to wait for the 2024 season to see if Mercedes have actually learned anything.
I don’t think it was 8 back to back championships. Could you elaborate on that?
I'm really trying to get into f1 as much as possible to the point where I wanna be a driver, though I know it's definitely not a simple process and requires some type of luck but I finally found a passion since basketball and i'm late but mannnnn. If any advice what's the best videos, anything I can watch to learn and grow. I plan on getting a race set up so I properly play sim games with a race wheel and not a controller :( but other than i'm all ears right now. Any really good channels that can help a beginner like me down to every detail
The 2020 cars in general were the fastest ever
How? By getting an FIA official to give them secret info. And hiring brilliant engineers. If Max or Alonso had been at Merc, we'd have 10-time WDCs easily.
And by starting their hybrid engine development in 2007 for the 2014 season...
That's quite a leap, hell the Germans went from bi-planes to jetfighters in that amount of time during WW2.
Not more power but max power right out of the gate

IF they would just stop with the restrictions every year, that'd be great.
Shame you didnt give any comparisons on how was itwas to other cars or even from today's car.
Ferrari always think good for their competitor even if it's there strategist or engine dept😂
That clever iterpretations fo the rules is happening right now with redbull rb19 and now that TD018 has maneged to stop them like the ferrari was stoped in 2019
It's surprising Merc is still as Competitive as they currently are given how many key personal have been Poached from Mercedes by other Teams over the last few years...
