    Ernie was so underrated that it makes me sick,when you hear folks talk about GREAT guitar players they always omit one of the greatest which is Ernie he is most definitely a living treasure especially when it comes to his all around skills not only as a guitar player but a musician period

    Ernie Isley has always been underated. The album he made really did not explify the depth how talented he really was and is. Traditionally guitar players only get better in time. I would love to see him get another album with a solid player producing it. Even a colaboration with him and Carlos Santana or even Vernon Reid.

    No, I can't explain Rolling Stone Magazine did not have Ernest Isley as one of the greatest pop guitarist but, he is the best guitarist in Soul Music current and of all time. There are a lot of soul guitarists that are excellent but, Ernest has captured the feeling of Soul in his guitar playing. In addition, he is an excellent Rock and Blues guitarist as well. The Rock version of Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers 3+3 was an excellent version.

      Rick, where you been? "The two older brothers", as you put it, along with Lead Singer Ronnie, were banging out hits WAY before Ernie & the others were brought into the group, helping to create a signature sound that would last a lifetime. Why do you think their landmark album was called "3+3"?! Ernie, Chris Jasper, & Marvin Isley were ADDED to a group already headed for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame! Before you disrespect Living Legends, get your facts straight! Although, I gotta say, the Isley's signature sound is DEFINED by Ernie's guitar playing. Vastly underrated, when the greatest guitarists are mentioned. Santana is great, but I can pick out any number of solo's by Ernie Isley that are better than anything Santana has EVER DONE!!

    • @joemusic13
      @joemusic13 7 років тому +1

      It took the whole group to make it happen in early years they open doors as a team of brother that deliver music such as Fight The Power, It's Too Late, For The Love Of You, Stone Cold, It's Your Thing, Shout and so many more tracks every brother donated his fair share of time to this great group named the Isley Brothers and a lot leads was done by other brothers as well. Me and Marvin was the best friends and cousins as I saw them do the Greek Theater in LA to Chicago IL and many other showcases please read up on the history of this group of pure excellence's. It was all the family that made them great.

    I know. Especially since Ernie was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and has his handprints on the Hollywood Rock Walk.. if he was good enough to get that recognition , then why isn't he on a "greatest guitarists" list? He was good enough to play with Steve Vai and Joe Satriani on the Experience Hendrix Tour (mind you that Jimi Hendrix actually lived with Ernie when he was an employee and houseguest from '62-'65) . Just stupid that he's not on there.

SRV, So many ahead of Ernie. Hell Buddy Miles may even be ahead of Ernie and he's a Drummer 1st and foremost. Others, Eric Gales ,Albert King, Eddie Hazel and Eddie Van Halen even better! is that 8? Folks Please stop perpetuating this myth that Hendrix taught Ernie Isley anything on guitar. Ernie has stated this on numerous occasion that Hendrix didn't. Hendrix's time with the Isley Brothers would have been between 1963-65 before Ernie even took up guitar. He has also stated that it was Jose Feliciano's music that first inspired him to pick up the guitar. It's obvious that Hendrix became a huge influence but that wasn't until later. Ernie's recollections about Hendrix are documented in this article. Folks too lazy too research themselves can just follow the link. Thanks.

      Wow. I never stated in my comment that I didn't hear Hendrix's Influence. It obvious. My point being that rather than keep repeating popular folklore, read statements straight from Ernie's own mouth that debunk it. Its been a few years since I posted my comment and the link is dead now. Guess what? Ernie, as always has been consistent in his recollections of Jimi's time living with the Isley's and his influence. Still think I'm bullshitting? Check out the link this recent 2 part interview on UA-cam. I'll even send you a scan a scan of an article that appeared In "Guitar For The Practicing Musician" from 90'/91. I gotcha man.. I know.. just a preference I guess.. I just "prefer" not to use it in that context. each to its own.. what we can agree on is that the man has MAJOR skill... perfect balance of soul and technique

    Just following up with 2 more links to similar articles. Same story. The second link even has a video of Ernie discussing Hendrix and how he inspired and influenced him. Nuff' said! I also have an article on Ernie Isley from a 1990 issue of Guitar For The Practicing Musician I can scan and email to you if you'd like a copy.

    taught by jimi hendrix when much much younger

      I don't know why people still think he was taught by Jimi Hendrix. Ernie Isley helped train Jimi Hendrix when they were younger. Before Jimi started touring as guitar player for The Beatles, The Isley Brothers took him into their group as a band member. Both Ernie and Jimi are two of the best guitar players of all time, but it's kind of disrespectful to Ernie for people to constantly get that fact wrong.

      Blake Edwards 100% wrong.. Jimi is older & taught Ernie licks while living with the Isleys.

      Allen Hawkins Unfortunately myths like this persist because inaccuracies are constantly repeated and then held up as facts. The internet is full of this kind of thing which is why I stress research using several sources. Don't take my word for it. I totally get the appeal of the story but it's simply not true Yes, Ernie was exposed to Hendrix playing during the time Jimi lived with the Isley's but he did not teach him. This isn't speculation. Ernie has stated this in interviews on several occasions. No point in disputing that. Peace.

      Ernie endorsed Yamaha guitars in the early 90's. It looks to be a stock Yamaha Pacifica 912 though it may or may not have been modified to Ernie's preferences. Great Guitars BTW. I have one with a pearl pink finish. Stock pickups are 2 DiMarzio stacked single coils is the neck and middle positions and a DiMarzio humbucker @ the bridge.
