This is the same reason i love my Roland System-1. It's not a jack-of-all-trades like my mininova, it has it's own sound and it does it well. Messing around with those 2 oscillators, a sub and an LFO gives you infinite possibilities if you just take the time to mess with it. And, really, what's better than just titting around with synthesisers and getting them to make crazy noises?
It's interesting that Behringer are supposed to be making a Prophet-600 module in a implant form factor to their Model G and Neutron. To have a fully analogue synth in that size format could be really cool.
You commenting that the Prophet 600 is so underrated rates this as just about the best video you've ever released. Of all the synths I've owned over the years, the one I regret selling the most was my Prophet 600.
Behringer has a clone of the GliGli mod prophet 600 in their desktop format called the Pro-800. It’s not available yet. But they put out a demo video. Once it’s available I plan on getting one. If it’s as good their other clones; it makes no sense to go vintage given the prices of vintage and the Behringer clones.
Thanks for this great video. I have exactly the same problem with mine as far as the multiplexers and am in the process of replacing them. What I learned after owning mine for 40 years (!) is that the prophet 600 doesn’t like to sit and not be used. If one pot dies the whole synth dies because that pot sends random signals to the multiplexers. So key thing is to use the thing and keep the pots and switches clean and in use.
Who needs black keys? You only ever play in C/Am anyway :P EDIT: Yes! finally! I've been trying to work out the chords for modern gas for ages now. Thanks (Am Em F, F C G)
C and A minor arent the only ones you can play, you can do all modes of major on the white keys (D dorian, E phrygian, f lydian, g mixolydian, b locrian)
Minor scales a good for making spooky goth darkwave music. So the blacks have some use I guess. Btw, how hard would it be to replace the broken keys? Can you get drop in replacements or are they so bespoke that they have to be sourced from another Prophet?
With a pretty simple midi remapper, any scale can be played on the white keys. It's handy for composing and improvising, simplifying the technical aspects of playing so the user can focus on the more intuitive aspects instead.
Behrigner are supposed to come out with an 8 voice desktop module version of this synth for under 600$ in January 2021. It will sell like crazy if it sound anything like a p-600.
It sounds like my Six Trak! I love my glide feature also. I do wish the Six Trak had more knobs to make edits faster but it's great for the money I paid for it many decades ago.

I had one of these with GliGli, sold it couple years ago...great synth. It is also great in making nature sounds like water drops, bird noises, horse and other animal noises. Also good for helicopter sounds. The bass is not too punchy like the June-60, but its great for leads and little squeaky sounds.
I adore mine. It's not only a powerful source of warm saw pads, but it actually has deeper bass than the Pro 3 (it really does). The envelopes really suck without the Gligli mod though, I've just been too afraid to install it - some people have had theirs malfunction afterwards.
Love mine. Also have not installed the mod, wanted to keep it the way it was. One note - using an external knob to control the filter cv is a great way to get a filter with no stepping and no latency
what an amazing sounding synth!! i love your content and videos, stumbled upon your channel after i was recommended the Megadrive Synth video, after that not only did i want to get into synths but i also want a Megadrive synth really bad haha.
I agree with you about the versatility argument, not just in terms of synths, but of appliances in general. As someone with a flaky attention span, I find devices that have tonnes of functions to be majorly distracting. Give me a synth or machine that does one thing and does it really well and I can have fun and focus.
Brilliant, mate! Keep doing what you're doing! I'm nowhere near your level of music. My music that I make is garbage. Not even music, but I have fun anyway.

Absolutely one of my favorite synths and the first midi synth!!
I'm rather surprised he didn't mention it being the first MIDI synth. That was one driver for presets.
Another lovely feature of this synth is the chord memory using the unison switch, great video!
For a laugh Turn on subtitles. At 9:20 it will correctly subtitle the prophet as: wow wow wow wow wow wow..
I enjoy your videos so much, I really like that you go in depth with technical details, that is the cherry on top!
