    Hey, stumbled on this video and was playing in the back, those aren't descenders, those are overshoots! Rounded shapes appear smaller than squared shapes, the overshoot in type design optically adjusts for this :) Little bit of simplification but hope that helps.

      Thanks for the comment! I was taught in design school many years ago that text that descends below the baseline is called a descender. That's what I've always called it 🙂 I have heard the term overshoots, but it seems to me that they are interchangeable. Do you know of any further difference between the two?
