    What I love is that the videos are not about him and a personality figure... you rarely see his face and it's not about him... its about the workmanship and the beauty of the timber and the piece! Respect and love his humilty. True master craftsman!

    • @dougpridgen9682
      @dougpridgen9682 5 років тому

      I love his craftsmanship as well, but I see that as him taking pride in his work, not as humility. If he was humble, i.e., if he thought of humiliation as a virtue, he would just do a half ass'd job because he wouldn't want to be excessively impressive. Being humble, humility, and humiliation are not virtuous.

    • @hoggmann7217
      @hoggmann7217 5 років тому +9

      @@dougpridgen9682 humble and humiliation are not the same thing in spite of sharing a root word. His videos are humble, and humility is a virtue in an overwhelming number of philosophical flavors (some religious too if you'd prefer those separated). His craftsmanship is incredible and yet he doesn't plaster his face all over everything or incessantly brag in the form of advice about how he got such a great fit on his joinery, the focus is on the work and not on himself or his expertise. More accurately that should also be attributed to Chie (video work/editing).

    I really like your videos because you show beautiful techniques to which one can actually relate and learn from. Most other videos from Japan show only Edo Sashimono or Miyadaiku which are almost impossible for most hobbyist, no matter the level, and many Western woodworkers either show contraptions to achieve something without actually studying carpentry or try to show off they can make something "only with hand tools". Your work is no nonsense, with machines where machines make sense and hand finish where that makes sense. I learned a lot of little things from you. Thank you!

    This explains why you haven't put out a video in quite some time.this build also made me realize how much I enjoy your videos and watching masterpieces come alive from blocks of wood. I wish I had 1/2 the skill you have:] even if this video was 3 hours long I would still watch it start-finish. I love the sliding doors. They are awesome.i can't wait to see what you create next. And if it's not until after the holidays and New Year ? Then ill say happy holidays and happy New Year in advance🍻 & thanks for inspiring!🍻👍
