Andy Shauf has been doing this for years. I'm just now finding out who he is. Simple and basic Stripped to essentials Beguiling development Deftly unexpected Personal vocabulary Sweetly unassuming
I was listening to Andy Shauf in the car for most of a 5 hour trip and then when I came home found this. So this makes it officially Shauf`s day for me. Great gift hearing this gig.
Thank you so much for putting this up! I also absolutely love the songs being chapters with your own titles (I see from the description this was your first exposure to Andy Shauf!).
Just watched a live performance video of Andy back in 2013 at the streamlive cafe. He had two friends on stage play a few songs with him. Fast forward all these years and those friends are still on stage with him. I don't know why but it made me like him that much more...
Andy writes some really unique stories that, on their face, aren't "really" that interesting such as a guy sitting at a bar thinking about his ex ... "Where are you, Judy?" But then his music sets the scene, the vibe, and his delivery transforms a very simple story into a piece of art. "Living Room" is a great example. He has a real "superpower" for transporting you into a world he created, which for me, always lasts longer than the song. The Neon Skyline album, in a lot of ways, is a modern version of the show "Cheers!" The setting is a bar, each song a different episode, the same set, and cast, quirky/ironic humor with a few punchlines here and there - all backed by Andy and his band. Not everyone will get Andy Shauf, which to me, makes his songs all the more intimate.
I listened to Andy on a podcast where he cited the short story author Raymond Carver as a favorite. Carver is super efficient with his details and finds the gritty humanity in the small moments. I’m reading the collection Where I’m Calling From right now. Highly recommend, especially for fans of Andy.
From your description, I'm so glad you found Andy Shauf!! His music is so picturesque, I always feel like I'm standing inside of a film listening to his song and storytelling!!!
I've been a fan of Andy Shauf for a little while, I'd love to watch him live but unfortunately I live too far away :/ but vids like this help me capture him live, so thanks for uploading! :)
Only heard about Andy Shauf from Modern Love last week. 'To You' is my fav track. Lyrically and the chorus i love. Clarinet and the Piano (unsure exactly what type it is) but i love the sound. The base and drums are subtle but great. Plus the exit of that track i wish would last for at least 5 mins
Amazing voice and writing! Live performance detracts from his talent. That's the secret back door, come in! come in ! He is a talent that should go down with the likes of Elliot Smith

Thanks again for the set list, it’s fun rewatching and recognizing all the songs I didn’t know before
@@wellwellwell7868 I’ll make one for the Belly Up show, too! Soon!😃

my birthday is on October 10th, so i took this as a wonderfull gift. Thank you Andy!
I love this new era of Andy.
What if it's still his first era?
I love all of Andy’s eras!😃 Starting with CAPTAIN!
as someone who loves your involvement with Shakey's work, I love the fact that you also have an interest in Andy. He is an incredible artist

the cheers angle is interesting too considering the name of his next album! Norm!
Genius.
sad/happy/deep/funny/worried vibes,
Andy vibes.
this is so so accurate thank you
A great songwriter with a fantastically sensitive backing band, whats not to like
From your description, I'm so glad you found Andy Shauf!! His music is so picturesque, I always feel like I'm standing inside of a film listening to his song and storytelling!!!
LOL It definitely feels like that. From the few tunes ive checked out, his music takes you to another world.
The power of a skillfully crafted arrangement.
That backgrounds fits the music damn - great

No problem! Thanks for sharing that. His work is pretty unique, a live in person show would be awesome
@@wellwellwell7868 saw him live in Tennessee and Lordy lord lordyyyy I got to shake his hand!! 😁 dudes incredible man great live show!
@@CronoXpono that’s awesome! Nothing compares to hearing it live~
@@wellwellwell7868 BRO he did a rendition of Alexander All Alone that made me angry to not record it. It was PHENOMENAL.

The best! A love this boy.
is that tom segura on the clarinet?
HAHAHA i’m so glad i wasn’t the only person who thought that

Wowwy wow wow, thank you for posting this. I am a very happy man tonight :)
No problem! This was the first time I had ever heard of Andy Shauf, and I was tempted to record his performance and post it. Happy others can see it
Thank you so much!!! This was so great!!!
fuckin incredible
El sonido de esta presentación es exquisito
Saw Andy last night in Brighton, England and he did not disappoint
Likewise. Great intimate venue! Disappointed Judy isn't real though. lol
@@fergusstrachan285 She’s real! Unfortunately!😒
@@anaflorentina3747 Huh? Do tell!
@@fergusstrachan285 Andy said in a few interviews that Judy is a combination of all his ex-girlfriends! All his awful exes!
at 21 minutes he plays Quite Like You
I get that this is a board mix, but man that applause sounds weak 😐. I'd be hootin'/hollerin' for Andy. Just an incredibly evocative songwriter.
Q: wás there any audience??😜
♥️♥️♥️
Andy will be playing again at HSB, on October 1st. Maybe you’ll be able to post that show, too! Please!🙂 It would be so great!
If it’s a livestream again, definitely! Thanks for that heads up
@@wellwellwell7868 It will be livestreamed! Can’t wait! Andy will play on Rooster Stage at 6pm!

A rare find. Maybe Im late to the party or early , cant tell dont care.
True that. Hes coming to my city next week for a show, im tempted to go and record
@@wellwellwell7868 Please, do!!!🙂
It reminds me of Paolo Conte, but i don't know why.
Tom Segura on the clarinet
Sounds great. But is this actually a "gig"? I didn't see a single shot of an audience.
It was an online festival!
@Florentina Ana Ionita oh no kidding??
@@anaflorentina3747 Interesting. Very cool that they still had them play on a big stage. Must have felt weird for Andy though!
@@88AndCounting Actually, I think Andy loved it. He doesn’t like at all big, loud crowd of people.
Why does his guitar sound like a 3000 dollar pizza cutter wheel?
Because drugs?
