I really wish Charles "Cookie" Cook's name would get corrected. I'm hesitant to share this video because of that mistake. Ernest "Brownie" Brown is not in this video. They were two different people who performed together as an act called Cook and Brown.
We were so grateful to you for getting Chuck to Europe!!!!!!!!!!!! It saved his life!!!! And there's a really fun story that happened just getting him packed and off to the airport! xoxo Vicotr you're a real legend yourself!
Cookie is the reason why I'm dancing. I heard his sound while walking down the hall at the Clark Center and burst into tears it was so beautiful. And then Chuck, the best time in the business. Thanks to whoever posted this. It's one of the best clips of two important giants of tap that I've seen in awhile. Takes me back to the 80's and the love and passion that we all shared while bathing in this genius.
Cool!!!!! Thank you!!!! I studied with Chuck 5 years every Sat afternoon at Fazils in NYC. This performance has a rare combo he got from John W. BUBBLES!!! Also a time step from the Hoofers Club called 'The Signal Dance' (that was used by the look out guy at the front door to tell the gamblers to put away their cards when a cop was coming up the block)
@@katiebrown5430 ok, this is from Chuck Green, the Godfather of Tap. He said that the Hoofers Club had a space in the basement where the tap dancers had a cutting contest every night and also had a gambling ring down in the basement. It was illegal back in the 30's to gamble, so the gamblers had a look out guy stand in the door way at the street level entrance to watch for cops on the beat. The Signal Dance was a known rhythm amongst the hoofers and the gamblers to signal the gamblers to hide their gambling items away so they didn't get busted for it. The steps for the SIGNAL DANCE were: (&a1&a2&a3&a45&6&7&a8) RT: fwd Brush ball heel, LFT: fwd. brush ball heel RT: bck: Brush ball Heel, LFT Bck: Brush Ball Heel. FYI That's CHARLES COOKIE COOK not COOKIE BROWN. His partner's name was ERNEST BROWNIE BROWN and they were the tap team ' Cook and Brown'. I took class from Cookie at Woodpecker's Tap Studio in Manhattan 1990 and then he danced in my annual showcase 'Tap Extravaganza 1990 & 1991 before he passed. He also danced with The Copasetics, Jane Goldberg's Changing Times Tap Co. and Heather Cornell's Manhattan Tap that I know of.
Just to clarify. The name Cookie Brown is incorrect. His name was Charles 'Cookie' Cook. He danced with Ernest 'Brownie' Brown, together they were 'Cook and Brown'.

wonderful performances by beloved tap dancers! I fondly remember Chuck, with whom I toured in Europe. He was an expert hoofer and a real gentleman
