I hope he gets the help he needs.
I agree, although the justice system will take care of what he has done, part of me feels sorry for him. He has thrown away what would have been a great career that an aspiring pilot like myself could only dream of achieving. The people around him did not see or acknowledge that he needed help and he did not seek out the help he obviously needed. Thankfully he wasn't able to bring the plane down.
It's a darn good thing the airlines haven't been successful at getting rid of co-pilots...yet. Imagine what could have happened with no co-pilot on that plane.
I'm by no means soft on crime but unless it was pre-meditated, I'm not sure what a long prison sentence would accomplish. His punishment will be loss of a career, banned from flying and probably loss of family. If the facts bear out his testimony then the best place for him is in a mental hospital.
if he had been depressed for many months he should have been responsible and sought help instead of shrooms
If a pilot seeks mental help, they lose all flying privileges until cleared by an aviation medical doctor, and even then, the FAA can go against the doctor's recommendations and bar the pilot from ever flying again. That is why most pilots don't seek out medical care because they will lose their licenses and lose the way they provide for their families. The FAA needs to fix this.
Or at least trip in a safe space
@@TheShooter95 The German Wings pilot sought help and he was sure allowed to fly again to extremely horrific results.
@@tjmichael8773 The German Wings pilot was flying under EASA policies and not the FAA. The FAA has ended a lot of pilots' careers over mental health, even if they are checked out and cleared to fly by an aviation doctor.
@@TheShooter95 Part of Lufthansa training takes place in Arizona, so Lubitz needed FAA clearance to complete training. The FAA initially declined to issue a medical certificate for Lubitz, but ultimately approved him
I feel desperately sorry for this man's family. Their faces say it all. They know their lives will never be the same. As for him, actions have consequences. He nearly killed eighty + people and he needs to be held accountable for that.
I can’t imagine the torment that his family will now be subjected to because of his actions. Them, along with the passengers, are victims here.
But it’s ok he said he didn’t intend to harm himself or anyone on the plane. 🤦♂️
As a fellow airline pilot, I couldn't care less if he's a good husband and father. He tried to kill 83 people. Throw him under the jail, and never let him out. Lifetime sentence and no less. Our profession is built on trust, and he did everything he could to undermine that.
Stick to bus driving man
You are sooo right......but mambo pamby society will give him 10 yrs probation or something ridiculous like that....
Another idiot. Talking and has no clue what really happened.
He may be a great husband and father but he made a stupid choice to eat shrooms and got on that plane and almost killed 83 people. He needs to go to prison
Not sleeping can really do some damage to your mind. I gave away my family fridge when experienced episodes of sleepless nights and my family got so angry at me.
Thankfully no one was injured.
I mean there has to be action taken. Either prison time or time in a mental hospital.
Obviously he has to lose his pilots license forever.
His poor wife and child. Their lives have been turned upside down.
What is he going to do for a living after this??
He will have to reinvent himself. It happens.
He can impersonate Jeff Bezos or Johnny Sins (you know the porn star) 😅😅😅.
Remember his attorney is an ADVOCATE not a seeker of truth or apparently a teller of truth
She needs to divorce him
Actions speak louder than words
Bull!
He said he wanted to kill everyone.
These are some of the worst excuses ever, send him to prison.
Seriously you’re an idiot maybe your mommy should’ve swallowed instead of having you. Mental health isn’t a joke and uneducated clowns who are ignorant like you have no business judging someone, screaming send him to prison when you have NO IDEA this man’s story behind this incident. See you’re the type of POS who judges as if you’re god until you are in a situation so helpless and dire then you beg for help and mercy & expect understanding only for yourself. Grow tf up and get a life CHUMP !! 🙄 ew disgusting you are.
Lawyers. 🙄
Even if he gets light treatment on the criminal charges, I expect he will lose his commercial pilot’s license, hence his livlihood. That is huge.
He lost it already. And light treatment would be 5 to 10 years.
@@mrrandom1265 if he'd have managed to shut the engine off and the plane went down, chances are the 83 families would've never known what really happened to their loved ones, would've been treated as a tragedy caused by mechanical failure
They would know from the recording of the CVR...🕵️
Yeah, this dude seriously messed up his flying career: he might have to fly as a cropduster or maybe an Alaskan Bush pilot 😂
@@philipthomas6808 I think he's gonna be banned from flying even as a passenger, at least for a few years,, he'll be considered high risk.
So irresponsible. He is responsible for so many peoples lives he should have sought professional help. He might have not passed his medical clearance to pilot if he went inpatient to a hospital, but being out on short/long-term disability for a while until you are well enough to pilot is much better than facing attempted murder charges and jail.
He will never fly a plane again.
If a congressman who was a former principle says he thought pulling a fire alarm would open a door in the capitol then this pilot should be able to say he thought pulling it would wake him up
Attempting to murder 83 people and pulling a fire alarm are not comparable.
@@RoadTripzz14maybe not, but comparing an attempted murderer to a politician is.
Respectfully disagree. The keyword here is "intent". He did not intend to murder anyone. He had a mental breakdown.
@nancychace8619 that's speculation. Just because he said it doesn't mean that's what happened. Many people who have killed or attempted to kill have claimed one form or another of a mental issue, when really they are just trying to escape jail time and the repercussions for a criminal conviction.
@@Thatguyboogerbush-gp9db Respect what you are saying, but in this case there are many factors that are evidence otherwise, including that lack of sleep. Many people might spin out on that little sleep. The pilots flying said he was fine when he got on the plane, made small talk. This happened suddenly. Also, he himself tried to warn the flight attendents to restrain him so he couldn't get into any further trouble b/c he could feel himself slipping -
Though I've read the mushrooms cannot be used for a legal defense, they were undoubtedly a factor. They probably put him over the top.
How can you possibly say he had no intention to hurt people when he knew damn well what the result of his actions would be!!!
if he was in his right mind, yes, but without sleep for over 40 hours, his lawyer will argue temporary insanity. It doesnt make it right of course. If only he just took the next flight and sat in the back none of this would have happened.
A mental break could have happened if he was sitting in the rear of the plane just as easily. Thank God for the crew. They were on their toes and did the right things.
@@brianino77 Sorry but i am not not buying the whole psychedelic mushrooms excuse.
I don’t feel bad for him. He shouldn’t have been dabbling in any sort of drugs
great husband that guy
Really hard to claim when you said you tried to kill everybody no
Lock him up for life.
He's still spending his life in jail. You fucked up, flyboy.
Incredible what stress can do to someone's brain
Shutting off the engines and attempting to open the door while the plane was in the air? Really?
Attorney = BS Spreader
They couldn't pay some pilots enough to fly alaska airlines.
Very sad situation....he and the family will pay for this mistake for the rest of their lives. The event reminds all of us to take care of our mental health,,,,,it should be #1 priority.
No intention to harm? Yeah, yeah, yeah, try telling that to the passengers mister!!! THEY DON’T WANNA HEAR IT!!!
Prison
He would not have tried that ish on southwest
?? My uncle is a pilot with southwest and I’m pretty sure mental illness doesn’t just stop existing depending on where you are.
Nancy Reagan said it. "just say no to drugs"
So what was his intention when he tried to turn off the engines and open the emergence door? FOH
A hole knew exactly what he was doing and how to do it. Lawyers would make me laugh if their antics did not seem so desperate. This type of argument is a Hail Mary. You could see this coming a mile away. The whole intoxication defense will not work when the intoxication was self inflicted. Talk about Bar Exam 101.
A woman just got r*ped in Seattle and the DA said it didn't count because he didn't announce he was going to r*pe her. Don't expect this guy to serve much time if any at all.
He was just playing a joke. I'm sure this was a huge misunderstanding.
That’s how quick you can throw your life away doing ***** *****
Oh my god the look on the wifes face...
One can’t blame her. His one stupid action means his family will be permanently disrupted. His kids will likely have to grow up without their father in their lives, and the wife lost the man she loved for many years. Very sad.
Maybe the job is too stressful due to a shortage in pilots.
Nah
That's one reason for sure. Maybe also because the crew get a ton of hate when your flight is delayed?
It can be a very stressful job, even on a good day.
Remember they were also threatened with losing their jobs if they didn't get a snake v3n0m injection?
Our government collects petabytes of data on every single citizen and even then, they make people come to the airports 3-4 hours early- just because airports/governments want all this ridiculous security theater. It's a joke. They could easily speed up the line. They choose not to. @@j.paulm.1575
The quick change of expression on his wife’s face when his attorney said that her husband was a wonderful husband and father was very telling of what they are going through emotionally.
The tell is always in the eyes...... always!
Lack of accountability from all of you and this man is sick
If he was depressed, hadn’t been sleeping and consumed psychedelics…..then he was already exhibiting a complete disrespect for the lives of any passengers who flew with him. This cockpit incident was just the icing on the cake. It’s hard not to feel for the agony his family must be in. It just seems that if his mental state (per Him!)was this bad for THIS long, then he really put everyone who flew with him..prior to this event..at grave risk. No matter what happens to him legally, he is the luckiest man on Earth for how this turned out.
The following is only SPECULATION: The man has been suffering from depression for 6 yrs. As a pilot he would not dare seek professional help. If so, he would lose his license and livelihood. ........In an attempt to seek relief and evade detection, I believe he sought self medication (and maybe a cure) in form of psychotropic mushrooms. This is a tragedy for him and his family............. but a tiny fraction of the tragedy if all on board had been killed. What is fair punishment? IMO, the airlines needs to rethink current policies on pilots getting mental help.... ironically it nearly killed 80+ people.
He made some poor decisions, but I seriously doubt he intended to kill anybody when he got on the plane. He had a mental breakdown.
Ethan is very great attorney he’s going hand it well
Hmmm... how to reconcile this... Defense Attorney: "He's a wonderful husband, father, and aviator..." Emerson: "Took psychedelic MUSHROOMS 48 hours prior to the flight"... Hmm...
All it takes is exposure to a lawyer and then he knows what his real story is.
I feel sorry for this fellow, and his family. Mental breaks can happen like this. After reading many reports, I don't think he had a bad intent when he got on the plane. This was not premeditated.
I think one of the biggest factors was his lack of sleep. Though apparently it's not a legal defence, the mushrooms were probably a big factor, too, and serious depression.
Mental health problems are not always well understood. This probably contributes to the stigma around them at times.
This pilot will have to reinvent himself. Not easy, but not the end of the world, either. It will be important for his case to be handled justly and fairly. He didn't intend to murder anybody.
set-up. ... alaska airlines ( ? ); there's your problem from the get go.
or Spirit.
I hear Governor Newsom needs a ride back from China....
Shrooms
Everyone needs to quit thinking this only happens due to drugs! I know this man!!! He's a wonderful man, well educated, considerant, doesn't do drugs, loves his wife.
Life got too hard for him. He just wanted a vacation. We've all been there! Don't judge his life on one bad day!
Awww so that excuses him how for trying to crash the plane..again shut up you sound silly.lack of accountability is sickening and you should be ashamed of yourself.dude said he was on drugs bozo the clown
@@Abby-yc7ttHe tried to kill 83 people.
@@Abby-yc7tt I respect your opinion however we'd be having a complete different conversation if that plane went down. Do you remember the german pilot Andreas Libitz in 2015? He was having a bad day and brought a commercial airplane down in the European Alps with about 240+ onboard. This pilot was having a bad day and chose to make it a bad day for approx 83 passengers and 83 families. There is no excuse for such behavior
"...doesn't do drugs..." But does do mushrooms. What would you call them?
He probably wishes the plane would have landed in California! They would have charged him with one misdemeanor and let him go on a signature bond
How’s the crime rate up there in Portland? 😂
@@EuphoricCritiques it's the worst in the country! My dumb ass state decriminalized ALL drugs and "defunded" the police. It's like a fucking third world country
Ha! Even I have to laugh - 🙂
Once you understand how the demonic realm works, these sorts of events are very easily understood. This guy being depressed, using psychedelics, and not sleeping for 40 hours was a prime candidate for demonic oppression/possession. Don’t be surprised when it comes out that he heard voices, or had super-human strength during the event, or people looked into his eyes during the event and saw no trace of Joseph Emerson.
Ephesians 6:12
“ For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
What a stupid fucking comment

@@j.paulm.1575 and apparently you don't read your Bible.
Drugs can make you vulnerable to Supernatural influences for sure.
We've all been there.
Yeah on the brink of crashing an commercial airliner..man shut up
No intention to harm, now the lawyer must be on mushrooms! Thats like saying he didnt mean to kill 80 people if he had suceeded. Alaska airlines say bye bye ill never fly them apparently pilots dont have to do drug test or it wasnt done. Piots should be subject to unscheduled drug test given the many lives their responsible for
He was not on duty, he was deadheading. Pilots and cabin crew do have random screening checks.
Pilots of all airlines, including Alaska Airlines are subject to random drug screenings under DOT guidelines, just like semi truck drivers that are on the roads you drive on. DOT drug screenings do not test for psilocybin...
