We agree. We visited the 150th in 2013 and it was PACKED there. Even Stephen Lang from the movie Gettysburg as George Pickett was there and we stood just a few feet from him. It was a great day and a wonderful visit. We drove all the way from Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Thank you everyone. My family is from Pennsylvania especially my father (Titusville)he took us to Gettysburg in July 1-3 1963 never forgot it. I took my family July 1-3, 1988 my youngest was one month old at the time. In July 1-3, 2013 I drove back from California to attend the 150th with my daughter and hopefully Lord willing I will be back again in 2038. For me there is no place like the Military Park when I'm there I'm close to my father who was a great Civil War scholar to me as a boy and then passing that History on to my own children. I just want to say watching your live today has brought back those feelings from all those years ago ! Great Job!

I know this comment is late but I thank you for bringing this engagement of Pickets charge to life in detail ,as well as, all the battles y'all have done throughout the entire American Civil War eastern and western theaters of the war. My family will continue to support y'alls. My great, great grandfather fought in this struggle in the Western theater with the Fourth Michigan Cavalry. I have walked part of that field near dark, by myself...wanted 'something' to happen...Those men in grey, making that charge, had an amount of courage that the vast majority of us, will never possess...Great admiration for them...I have read that the Confederate bombardment was the loudest, man made, sound ever produced prior to the dropping of the Atomic Bomb in WW II...Input from Rhode Island...

As a Boyscout in the 80s, we participated in a hiking tour of the battlefield. As part of that, we camped at Seminary Ridge, awoke in the morning, broke camp, then hiked up to the Angle. What an eye opening experience that was, particularly when we hit the road and had to get past that fencing. 😳

Thank you for guiding us through that fateful July 3rd attack. My family and I crossed that incredibly wide field as part of “Armistead’s Brigade” with NPS Ranger Bill Hewitt during the 150th Anniversary. It was hot, the ground uneven with long grass, and we climbed over two fences while I repeatedly reassured my 10 year daughter that “we’re almost there”. After reaching The Angle, we all gathered together as Americans and experienced an incredible rendering of echo taps as we honored the sacrifice of those who fought and sacrificed there.

I was at the 125th anniversary reenactment in 1988 and saw that gun Chris was talking about. The ball was protruding from the muzzle and there were marks all around it where they used an ax trying to force it in. There were also numerous marks on the barrel and carriage from bullets and or shrapnel. Really amazing to see.

Something that is left out of the discussions on artillery is the inconsistent quality of the Confederate black powder. I saw a presentation on C-span3 about Civil War black powder in which the speaker talked about how the CSA had a hard time getting nitrates. This inconsistency affected both a projectiles range and the explosive power of shot and shell.
