- Two sisters live alone in a large house. One of them buys a coffin
Suspense is a radio drama series broadcast on CBS Radio from 1940 through 1962.
One of the premier drama programs of the Golden Age of Radio, was subtitled "radio's outstanding theater of thrills" and focused on suspense thriller-type scripts, usually featuring leading Hollywood actors of the era. Approximately 945 episodes were broadcast during its long run, and more than 900 still exist.
Suspense went through several major phases, characterized by different hosts, sponsors, and director/producers. Formula plot devices were followed for all but a handful of episodes: the protagonist was usually a normal person suddenly dropped into a threatening or bizarre situation; solutions were "withheld until the last possible second"; and evildoers were usually punished in the end.
Originally Broadcast 2/3/1944

I really like these old commercials, and how these recordings sounded. There’s something deeply comforting about old time radio.
I love to sleep to tv but this is even better because you can close your eyes and listen without missing anything.
I’m doing just that right now.
I guess it's kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good website to watch newly released tv shows online?
@Stetson Izaiah lately I have been using flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
Good idea.
I've never heard this episode yet. Cool.
"There's no punishment for suicide." "No. Not if it' successful." This was excellent. Really worth listening to.
This took me back to the 60's when all we had was radio in India. I was but a child then. Even so, the radio was on all the time and we listened to stories, our imaginations filling in the faces and places. I became a film maker, writer and teacher, all thanks to a great start early in life. I enjoyed this play, subscribed and looking forward to more!
Love Agnus Moorehead. Such an underated actress. So glad I found this play.
Something so comforting about old time Agnes moorehead suspense radio . Brings you back to a time that once was
I like these old radio Suspense plays. Some great actors amongst them.
When actors acted. No job too small. When they put ego n money aside for art n love of it. 2 great ones here
These are the best ever to listen to …..thank you
Just thought I'd point out to those who are complaining about the commercials and the music that you need to realize this wasn't free to the person who shared it. You have to pay to get the old recordings.
Yes, i also buy as many old time radio shows that i can find on CDs. They are so calming, especially during the pandemic when i just needed to escape the news
I adore radio, love it.. thank you so very much. England 🇬🇧
2 great actresses of yesteryear! Thank you.
I love it , thanks again 🌳
Two great ladies... Thank you so much.
So glad I found this awesome sight ❣ Love, Love, Love everything I've listened to so far. Thanks for sharing these stories with us💜
I had an idea of the end, but was never sure.
Thanks a million from Italy!
I love the old radio mystery and suspense stories....
Brilliant! Good acting and not over-played.
Thanks much
Before going to work my co-worker and I would go to our back room with our coffee and play a SUSPENSE radio show. He like me would put on an old radio show before going to sleep, but his wife told him to do that in the other room. (He wouldn't wear earphones) I am old enough that I remembered; YOURS TRULY JOHNNY DOLLAR, SUSPENSE, LUX RADIO THEATER, THE LONE RANGER, THE GREAT GILDERSLEEVE, JACK BENNY, THE WHISTLER etc. Many shows lasted till 1962. The ones I remember were in the late 40's and through out the 50's. When I was 6 or 7 and at home sick I'd hear my Mom's Soap Opera's; THE ROMANCE OF HELEN TRENT, OUR GAL SUNDAY etc. ''THOSE WERE THE DAY'S MY FRIEND WE THOUGHT THEY WOULD NEVER END''
There is nothing more relaxing ❤️
Wow. Two fabulous actresses, both with plenty of acting + directorial experiences. This play was wonderful + kept me guessing right the way through. Great stuff! Hi from Oz. 👇💜🙃
Thank you. Much better than watching tv. I only watch ice hockey, motorcycle racing and Football/ soccer on my television anymore.
This makes me think of the film 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane'.
Makes me think more of "Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte."
And it's also like her film "Dead Ringer"!
As this finished up, I was just saying to my husband that this really feels like a mid to late career Better Davis screenplay, it is a lot like several of them!
"Roma Wine. Made in California for enjoyment throughout the world!" I wonder what it tasted like.
I listen to this on Sirius Xm . Is rather hear these old shows than some of these of my time
Enjoyed it very much!
thank you for posting, so happy to have found your channel
Thouroughly Enjoyed..Thankyou..
love this one!!! one of my top 5!!!! 2 amazing actresses!!! hands down!!!!
Thank you, loved it !
Just wanna say a huge thank you for this wonderful story really enjoyed it from Bedford KAZ🇬🇧😃💜⭐💜⭐💜
Roma wine was very tasty. I remember it well since my family and relatives used to drink it once in awhile with dinner. I believe it had weaved straw around the bottom of the bottle.
I thought that was Chianti in those types of bottles. Or are they the same?
I imagine it was “very refreshing”! 😉
Im going to see if I can find ROMA wine
It's an ad for wine 🤣🤣
That is a house in Bodie, Calif
I love the part where the police asks Agnes Moorhead, Ms Haskel, “How are you going to die?”
That wasn't agnes Moorehead
Thank you for this. I heard of Agnes but can't recall her face acd I never heard of the other actress mentioned. God bless from Ireland, Sunday @4.57am, the 20th of March 2022. ❤️🇮🇪❤️
Most in the US recall Agnes Moorehead as the mother on the TV show Bewitched... She had a great radio career as well. We have a playlist of her shows on our channel. You might check out "Sorry Wrong Number"... Orson Welles called this show with Agnes the greatest single radio play ever... She worked with Orson Welles on a number of Mercury Theatre shows as well as playing "the lovely Margo Lane" with Orson on "The Shadow" radio shows
You should check out Ida Lupino as well. She was a wonderful actress and a pioneer, becoming an early female film and TV director.
@@ChestertonRadio hello. Apologies of my tardiness. I only just got a notification. I know Agnes, as the grandmother in Bewitched. Luckily, my Irish TV network showed it to us. God bless, Thursday the 9th of June 2022. 🇮🇪💐❤️
@@mjrussell414 hello, I will thank you. Her name looks slightly familiar too. Regards from Ireland, Thursday the 9th of June 2022. 🇮🇪❤️💕
Ida Lupino was not an actress I knew much about until a few years ago. She is actually English, but came to America with her actress mother in the 1930's. Both had established careers as actresses in England before going to America.
Such a pity they never turned these suspense storys i to tv movies with agnes moorehead some of het best work
Remember “Red Rider?” I listened to that when I was about 3 or 4 when we lived in Arizona. There were so many great radio shows back then ~ “The Green Hornet,” “Inner Sanctum,” and “The Lone Ranger.”
The role Ida Lupino plays here I think is similar to the one she plays in the 1941 film Ladies in Retirement where she played a sinister companion/housekeeper to a retired actress.
All hail Roma Wine!
It doesn't need a special glass!
Enjoyable though rather predictable, and worth it for the magnificent 40s advertising: "Let me say the name again.. R O M A" 😄
All right, Ellie! ✅
What’s up with the photo of the Caine house in Bodie?
Could very well be the Kane house. This radio play was done in 1944 and Citizen Kane was done in 1941.
Anybody know the hymn Ellie kept humming?
Well..she said it n she got it. She should have been drinking wine and being positive.
Well Dam!
They could have taken the adverts out
That's part of the good stuff
Pf português ( Brasil) obrigado
Black swan tyrone power
Loved the name Tristrum...named my son Tristan.
Black swan
Why the incessant music l had to stop listening
Because, it is a radio show, adds to the suspense.
Makes no sense at all
Enough with the Roma Wines commercial already!
This absolutely sucks! Mystery theatre is much better!
Blah, blah, blah
