Incredibly informational! Currently repotting a lot of my collection due to subpar quality moss. In my environment it’s breakdown created a playground for fungal outbreak. Your ability to ease everyone’s mind with these encounters is on point, thank you 😊
Glad you found this useful, hope your mold issues will dissappear completely after the moss change! I had some bad quality moss in the past too, barely lasted me a year 🙄🧡
@@MissOrchidGirl Thank you so much for mentioning about the orchid supplies you use in a past video. Now I'm very satisfied with the orchid mix from rePotme and their New Zealand spagnum moss. Hi Dani! Thank you so much for sharing this! I'm new to growing orchids and I recently received one with so much mold, it looked like it was grown in floral foam. This video was very helpful to me to take care of the problem and give this little one a chance to grow!
So helpful. I just found this snow mold on my orchid and medium. She's new and is in bloom so I'll wait to report. She's not near other plants at this time. Thanks for the info!
Hi Danny! I would like to say that I am a big fan of your videos. They inspire me to succeed in growing healthy orchids, even though I managed to kill three. I bought a mini orchid recently and unfortunately I didn't notice that she has snails, mold and infected leaves. I repotted it in bark mixed with Seramis, spayed it all with hydrogen peroxide and cut the infected parts of the leaves. Hopefully, there is a light in the dark :) I am not good at looking after orchids as yet..but I am sure that your videos are really helping people out!
Good luck! Sick plants can be hard because we always want to save them, but they can be discouraging. Don’t give up. As Planterina says, to get good at taking care of plants, you are going to kill a few plants. That’s the way it is, and luckily they aren’t like animals or people. Danni has some videos on her channel about picking out healthy orchids to start with that I found SO SO HELPFUL! And Planterina has one of those for houseplants in general, as well. So watch those a few times and you’ll be more ready to impulse shop in the grocery store. My sister gets pretty annoyed when we go to the store together and I spend so long examining every single plant in order to find one!
Thank you ever so much for this video as one tends to forget now and then what to do on preventative measures in orchid care. This was one of them for me. So that being said it has refreshed my memory on what to look out for and just how to maintain the good health of the media and orchid. You are amazing and your tips that you pass on is great. Looking forward to the next video. Have a real great day.
Hi Danny! Awesome video on how to tackle mold issues (thank goodness I haven't had mold issues, but I'm sure I will get there one day soon). I just wanted to thank you again for all you do. My orchids (I now have 7....but they are all Phalaenopsis orchids lol) are all doing magnificent, and it's exciting to watch them grow each day. Root production is going crazy in a good way (shooting out the tops of the pots which I think looks cool). Thanks again Danny! I would not have this much success with orchids if I did not subscribe to your UA-cam channel. Be well my friend.
I found this same kind of spotting mold in my Polly Alocasia... I notice it grows under the dirt and around the inside of the pot.. I usually see it in the holes under the pot. I have 2 pots with this. I thought it was spider eggs but I'm glad I found this video. I'll be sterilizing the dirt with the hydrogen peroxide and see how things go.
Great video, but the explanation for not flushing because it's water (H2O) with an extra O makes my inner scientist cry a little. Adding one atom makes it a whole new thing with completely different attributes, it's no water anymore. But it's only a 3% solution with 97% distilled water and the roots have anyway already sucked it in, adding more water won't remove it.
Found this 3 days after I bought a reduced orchid that had moldy media. I almost did what you said in the video so hopefully will be fine. My orchid seems to have had a shock though and the flowers are wrinkling up. It had a ball of soil surrounded by bark before. I removed all media, washed it and put it in a whole new pot with new bark.
Great info Danny, actually have a small mushroom growing in one of my rescue phalanx. Time to deal with it, thanks for the inspiration. Pete from Canada
Hello, I have used 3% peroxide on the mold for three of my orchids and it has killed all the roots. I have heard on this channel multiple times that 3% is ok to use on roots. I'm reading elsewhere that it is not good for roots and will kill them. Can you advise as to why the peroxide may be killing my roots? I have been washing the roots througoutly after cleaning. If I cant use cinnamon on white mold located on the roots what can I use other than peroxide? Thanks!

I repotted my phal 2 weeks ago, after 1 week it began developing blue spot mold on the new soil, I dont know what to do can you please help. I'm a beginner in this and I dont know what to do😞
After 7 months in a dry, arid region, I moved to a wet region and a house that has lots of mold. I lost all the leaves of my newest acquisition this month. I've checked all my orchids and they all have small white dots on their stems. I don't have hydrogen peroxide in the house so I used cinnamon powder on the white spots. Question: I have them in only sphagnum moss (since previously I lived in a dry region). Is there a video where I can figure out what would be a better medium for a wet, moldy region.
I know that chamomile tea has antifungal properties, and I've had success with treating outbreaks in terrariums in the past. It could possibly be another, more natural way to help treat fungus.
Hi! I just repotted my dehydrated phals. Baby roots are appearing I'm excited! But I also see little bit root rot. How do I apply fungicide into the medium without unpotting then again? Soak the entire pot in fungicide?
I’m sorry if this is a repeat question, but do you use the 3% hydrogen peroxide full strength, or dilute it? I have just started watching your channel and have learned that you need to repot yearly, yikes! My orchids have been in the same medium for about three years and I have realized that I have some roots that are dying and others covered in a green coating! I will be repotting asap to see if I can rescue them. Thx for all your information, it is really helpful!
Hy Danny, thanks for another great video. i have some mushroom in my phelonopsis medium, but those are big mushrooms. most of them die in between watering, but after watering some of them come back. sometimes if i dry out medium they dont return for few months. should i be worried about those and repot, or can they live together before medium is too broken down and needs to be changed? I use coconut husk and its about a year old. thanks again for a great videos.
I think medium that’s a year old is olde enough to change out without feeling like you are wasting it! If the bag wasn’t new when you last repotted, you might have fungi happening in there, so check it carefully (maybe put some in a cup or empty pot and water it to see if more grow). If you need good quality new media and you live where they ship, I tried RePotMe mixes after seeing Danni use them in the sponsored videos and I LOVE them. I actually bought two mixes (one is more sphagnum moss heavy and one is more bark heavy) and I combine them together based on the size of the pot they are going in, because I have a fairly dry climate but use cover pots that slow the drying of my larger pots a lot, so they need more bark.
Struggling with my new orchid😫 I really want to keep it alive. It did come from the store heavily ridden with root rot so I had to repot, but after like a week, I see white things at the end of the roots😭
Hi, does the soil mites could possibly remove the mold in the pot and the medium, but not the fungal spores. So still, if we have those mites, it cannot get rid of the spores, repot it still necessary. Love your video by the way. Very helpful😊. But I cannot be a member of your channel even if I wanted to. I am a bit financially challenged though especially this time.

My orchid while trying to repot lost all its leaves but it still has a green shoot on the flower spike. Should I dump it or hope it will grow in the new medium?
For me theirs black mold on the crown itself and lost all its leaves we never wet the top at all, the roots have some green on it still what can I do to save it?
Hi Danny, I have just bought a phalenopsis and there is something weird on the roots. It doesn't look like anything you've shown in this video. Is there somewhere I can send you a picture, so you can give me your opinion on it? Thanks.
I have a similar growth on my roots . Have been watching lots of videos and images to find some more information. But can't seem to find any with regards to the growth I see on my roots. Its like air sponge and its stuck on the roots . Tried taking it off with a toothpick , but it didn't budge and so left it alone . No sign of mould or mildew in the medium , though the bottom was moist .
Can you do this process on phals in bloom? I just got one and checked the roots and there's small white mold! I don't want to disturb the blooms because they are so gorgeous but I don't want the mold either 😭
Hi, it may be that it's time for the flowers to fade, which is very normal. Now is when the orchid plant starts to grow! Here's more info ua-cam.com/video/mHDoyH0tRYc/v-deo.html
I disagree with one thing you say Danny :) forests do smell like mushrooms because that's where they grow most :D for me personally the smell of the mushrooms and the smell of a forest are pretty much the same thing :) And to be honest I like both. Maybe what you smell is the smell of rot which is different.
My largest phal’s pot (which is really quite small still, I think it’s a 4” repotme pot?) always smells slightly of mildew. It usually gets more noticeable when I water. But the medium is new (actually changed twice in the last 12 months because I had quite a bit of root loss after repotting shock and cold damage after the first repotting), and I have no visible mildew, mold, or root rot. The mother orchid lost all leaves on one side including a new one half grown in, as well as all but one large root, and its next baby leaf also rotted out almost immediately, but it kept two large leaves so I treated it like a sick orchid hsing Danni’s videos for advice. She’s now growing 4 keikis (I think), and has shown no further illness or damage since going into orchid ICU in the beginning of March, with the 2 big mother leaves supporting a ton of root growth for the babies! Switching to distilled and RO water when starting ICU made a big difference, too. So I try not to worry about the mildewy smell as pong as she continues to improve.
I tried this method, but the fungus is back after just two days :( The mould was growing on the potting media and it had affected some of the roots. I threw away all the media, and the old stakes that were holding up the flower stalks, sanitized the roots and part of the upper part of the plant with a 3% peroxide solution and then repotted it. Watered the plant and two days later, I saw it growing on the bamboo stake I had used to hold the flower stems ( the orchid is in bloom). Is there any chemical fungicide that will do the job?
Hi, the bamboo stake will always have mold no matter what, but the stake is not important. Not fond on toxic fungicides, a google search will have more answers about those ☺️
@@MissOrchidGirl oh okay, so I don't need to repot them then? As I can't see any mould on anything else except for one of the new bamboo stakes I used when I repotted the orchid.
Is completely understandable But please don't throw away mediums ... Wasteful for no reason as that dilemma is curable, by way of ▪︎boiling moss in a pot on stove top for ▪︎a full hour ▪︎& the wood /bark/stones etc may be baked in the oven ▪︎set @ 350 for 25 minutes ▪︎ Thank you Danny for all your works & educational content .
Yes I heard & understand you standing in your truth with your experiences. That does not hold true for every1 else. I commented to explain that not all is lost, that there is an alternative instead of wasting / sacrifice resources, utilize methods to sanitize the mediums individually. Thank you again for your time attention and works.

Can you do this process on phals in bloom? I just got one and checked the roots and there's small white mold! I don't want to disturb the blooms because they are so gorgeous but I don't want the mold either 😭
I have the same problem? Please let me know if you find an answer
@@jayanihalliday6316 I just went ahead and repotted and sprayed with hydrogen peroxide. It dis just fine 🙂
@@lipsiekins845 Thank you so much for letting me know 😊
Found my orchid has mold as well, but green roots have blackish spotting.
Hi, I have an orchid that the flower spike is turning yellow. There still is flower on the spike am I over watering? The orchid is in moss.
Hi, it may be that it's time for the flowers to fade, which is very normal. Now is when the orchid plant starts to grow! Here's more info ua-cam.com/video/mHDoyH0tRYc/v-deo.html
Does this apply to terra-cotta pots that grow all different types of things?
Not sure what you mean by that, but yes, within reason most things apply no matter what pot you use ☺️
Loved watching the repotting.
Finding it hard to resist big box orchids😣
I disagree with one thing you say Danny :) forests do smell like mushrooms because that's where they grow most :D for me personally the smell of the mushrooms and the smell of a forest are pretty much the same thing :)
And to be honest I like both.
Maybe what you smell is the smell of rot which is different.
??
I tried this method, but the fungus is back after just two days :(
The mould was growing on the potting media and it had affected some of the roots.
Wasteful for no reason as that dilemma is curable, by way of ▪︎boiling moss in a pot on stove top for ▪︎a full hour ▪︎& the wood /bark/stones etc may be baked in the oven ▪︎set @ 350 for 25 minutes ▪︎
Thank you Danny for all your works & educational content .
I did put a text in the video that I don't recommend doing that and explained why ☺️
Yes I heard & understand you standing in your truth with your experiences. That does not hold true for every1 else. I commented to explain that not all is lost, that there is an alternative instead of wasting / sacrifice resources, utilize methods to sanitize the mediums individually. Thank you again for your time attention and works.
Can I send you some peroxide 3%???
I know this is 2 years old idk if your circumstances are the same or not. I should as many videos as I’ve watched!!
👍🏼
MissMushroomGirl
Do you watch anime?
I love your videos ✌️thank you for teaching me! This year I bought my first orchid 😁 then I got 4 more! 🤞
I throw away mine. It was too gross and way worse than yours. I was afraid that the spore will spread and affect my other plants. 🥲🤢
